    Try again... updated codes

  4. Grabbed 69TTH7P4KW7T (codes seemed to work for me). I have to admit this isn't a bad game at all. It's quite well done, nice graphics, great animations and effects, and gameplay that can get pretty frantic. Plus, it takes an old (literal) sandbox concept and turns it into a rather entertaining game. Pretty cool.

Many thanks Mindfield. It was hard work getting the particle system up to a decent framerate. If you like the game please take the time to leave a review.

  6. I can imagine it would have taken some serious optimization for that many grains; that's been the bane of most sandbox toys that didn't just cheat by increasing grain size or pixel doubling the entire playfield -- which I can't blame them for as even simple physics is demanding on that many objects, so well done there too. Plays smooth as silk on the iPhone 4. I'm not even going to bother asking about a Retina update as I don't imagine quadrupling the res would be kind to the frame rate. Plus, it looks fine as-is; it's not like higher res dots will look any better. :)

    Off to leave a review...

    Technique?

Hi logikstate, just downloaded this and it's quite an interesting and unique game!

If you don't mind me asking, is there any particular technique you used for the particle simulation? I've done plenty of particle systems and fluid dynamic simulations, as well as iPhone development, and getting 20k+ particles running fast is pretty impressive. Do you simulate each particle individually, or is it more of a grid technique where effectively treat every pixel as a particle?

Good luck on the game :)

Well, it's hard to explain without giving the game away.

Basically, it's a pixel grid... every pixel is a particle... with some tricks to speed it up... oh, and I update every pixel twice per frame so the sand falls nice and fast... ;-)
