ChickDigger, i think that we are very open to criticism as you can notice from Samurai II. We changed everything what people wanted and keep all what they love (even features suggested by journalists) The problem which I have with that review are only two or maybe three: 1. comparing to tech demo which running only on iPad at 20 FPS without any gameplay code with full game running on 2nd gen iPod to 4gen iPhone as universal app.. (Eli almost skipped it) 2. repetitive and linear.. Im a little bit allergic on it 3. Difficulty. If this game will be so easy, we would be criticized for short campaign and repetitive game, because there is not challenge. Scaring people about difficult game is very contra productive for us as sellers . This game ID NOT difficult. This game is not so simple, you have to do right combos, combining with rolls.. If you are very aggressive and bashing only O/X buttons then you will fail. Its bad that Eli didnt spend more time with game, because I believe that he will found how to play it and enjoy it more . anyway, as you already found, we really love our game and we would love create these types of games (HnS, shooters, etc) and not 0.99 small games. True is that my English is far from perfect and I'm immune to magic formula that developers should not react on reviews.. Anyway I'll be more polite next time
What did I almost skip? Samurai II? No, not at all. I grabbed it as soon as it popped up on the App Store. Let's analyze the sentence that has you so worked up: "While Samurai II: Vengeance isn't going to knock Epic Citadel [Free] off its throne of having the most jaw-dropping graphics available on the platform, this is an actual game, and is a must-have if you're looking for another way to show off the Retina Display." In other words, Epic Citadel looks better, sure... But it isn't a game. This is, and it's a must-have if you want another title to show off what latest-generation devices are capable of. I thought Samurai II was repetitive and linear. I offered the customization of Hero of Sparta II as a comparison of a similar game that isn't as repetitive because you're always working towards something to unlock. I didn't feel this same sense playing through Samurai II, as unlocking additional and upgrading existing combos didn't provide much personalization or much to look forward to as you got further in to the game. The game is extremely linear, most of it has you just running down a path that you cannot stray from at all. These criticisms were also mentioned in the Pocket Gamer and Slide to Play review which don't seem to be offending anyone. Regarding this difficulty, if you guys want to see more universal appeal of your games, it needs to be playable by everyone. I passed my device around to a few people before writing up my review just to show off how cool the game looked, and everyone who tried it was just instantly annihilated. If you want to target your game to the hardcore crowd, that's cool, but it's my responsibility to write reviews that consider the entire readerbase of TouchArcade. I played through the whole game, that's why we didn't do our usual of publishing the review on Wednesday night. I took my time with it, and as my review mentions several times, I thought it was a fantastic sequel.
While it's rare I ever agree with Eli, this time I am 100% behind him. This is perhaps one of the most unbiased, accurate reviews I've read of a highly anticipated title. Sorry madfinger, it was an accurate review; rather than having a tantrum, maybe you should reread the review. It was very positive and it compared your awesome graphics only to Citadel. Sorry, but with so many humble devs doing great things. you've lost a customer.
Anyone else experiencing this issue? My health was fully upgraded at the end of Chapter 3 and I'm having the same problem. Game just goes to black. If I quit and restart, it puts me back at the end of chapter 3. I beat all the enemies again, and it crashes again. Maybe the dev could respond to this issue?
Both sides are right and wrong in their own ways and I will admit that MADFINGER may be a bit more wrong than Hodapp. But to not buy a great game because of how passionate a dev is for their game is just stupid, plain and simple.
ok finished it but this screen wasn there: i killed ourch in his castle or room....anyway samurai is really died too? so im waiting for the third EP and the monster samurai1 was really natural and 2 going to be abstract ....
While I admire his passion and will probably end up getting this game at some point, Madfinger went a bit overboard with his original post. I'm a computer programmer and if one of my business customers didn't like what I did, I'd be looking to see what I did wrong and try everything to improve on my next task. If I went on to cuss that customer out, I'd be fired in an instant. Feedback -- good and bad -- is what makes us better. You don't always want to hear it, but in the end, it's worth listening to.
No, it's not stupid to support an unprofessional dev. I did buy the game as soon as it hit the store, as I loved the first one; I'm not supporting any future games. Obviously you think a tantrum is passion-it's not, and the only person wrong was madfingers.
That is a prebeta screenshot that just showed different aspects that may be in the game so it isn't an actual part of the game.
Ok, I am sorry you feel that way. When madfinger makes a new great game, I will continue to enjoy them while you complain about a "tantrum".
Great game, having fun with this. Going in without knowing too much about it, I was surprised by the difficulty level, but it's refreshing and rewarding. The graphics are phenomenal and are truely a sight to behold on a Retina device. It feels like it's been hand drawn / inked and it's a beautiful site. Yes it's a hack and slash, but this is perfect since I can pick it up, play a little while and come back to it later. I like the combo leveling system, but honestly haven't played long enough to see what the more expensive combos are like. As far as the "rant", it seemed as though it was done with frustration that snowballed from finding their game being pirated so extensively and then reading a review that wasn't up to their expectations. I find it sad that a $3 game came be so blatantly ripped off... well, any game at any price actually, shouldn't be stolen like this. As a curiousity question for MadFingerGames, how did you find out that 75% of people playing your game were pirating it? Anyways, beautiful game, can't wait to play some more!
OMG what went wrong here??? just since my last post in this thread I followed up all the arguing going on. I can somehow understand the emotional rollercoaster MadFinger is in. The adrenalin high of the game release and the pirating is like... getting a perfect fellatio (or cunnilingus) while your face is being punched at the same time. and for the buisiness I´d rather have a strong hearted ´amateur´ (non-professional) than a pro with a shark smile. The only thing that every artist must learn: once you release something into the world it no longer belongs to him/her. The Artist has no right to tell people how to perceive his creation. And that can be a damn hard thing to cope with. just some thoughts.
