Trailer looks beyond awesome! The first game is one that will never leave my device and I'm sure this one won't either once it comes out. I'm glad MadFinger has implemented a joystick and buttons for those who want them, but I really enjoyed the original controls, thought they were perfect. Proud to say I beat the original game the day or two after it originally came out. I think an update was released not long after that toned down the difficulty a bit.

Good that they added virtual controls to the old swipe controls - it's about time devs got over their stubbornness of touting "controls that embrace the iPhone design philosophy" nonsense and simply give players controls that are proven to work!

I can almost guarantee it will feel more satisfying slicing off heads and separating torsoes by actually making the motion with your finger than it will to mash some buttons.

The sequel has only virtual controls. I loved the swipe controls in the original game, but didn't miss them here, since the virtual controls are great (in fact, one of the best I've ever used). In any event, the way combat and levels are designed here, swipe controls would have been impractical.

    Ah you're kidding... I'm heartbroken :(

I guess if you've played it and don't miss them I'll take your word for it. The level designs from the trailer do make it look like it would be tough with swipe controls... but still that really bums me out. I was hoping for more of the same action from the first game.

OMG.....those slow motion death sequences are so freaking great looking. I love it when the first one shows the guy being sliced in half and it splits slowly in two in slow motion :D

Don't worry. I was also really sad, when I first saw that this game has no gesture controls. But the sequel works differently. And it works so well! You can compare it to Hero of Sparta ... but this one is MUCH BETTER!

But I completely understand you. They nailed it with the first one. And slicing never felt that good - before or after. But you can safely buy it.

Thanks, that makes me feel better :) I'm definitely still going to buy it as soon as it's out. Going to replay the first one now :)

I would say it's about twice as long.

Let me add a bit to the good news, because I'm stoked about this game. The awesomeness of Samurai II doesn't end at the graphics, or the controls, or the fact that it runs at 60 fps on an iPhone 4 (folks who talk about Gameloft games being "silky smooth" will be in for a surprise). The way it plays is amazing -- you really feel like you're a master swordsman. But even beyond that, there are details here that just leave your mouth open. For example, as you can see in the video, when you slice an opponent the camera does a close up and the action goes slow-mo. So far that's a familiar features of many a contemporary action game. In Samurai II, though, it's not a cut scene: you are still in control of your character. If you see an arrow flying toward you, you can choose to roll out of the way -- in slow mo -- and cancel the kill-cut. Or if you're quick enough, you can make the kill and dodge out of the way as another blade whizzes by you. In other words, you get to create your very own cut-scene, which for me beats a quick-time event (like the ones in Hero of Sparta II) by a mile.

It's like nothing you've ever seen on this platform.
