this is the best game I have played on the app store. you can replay it again and again and its never the same game. it took a couple hours of forced play to begin to appreciate it, and now i love it!

i would appreciate a list of monsters and weapons in game as a quick reference instead of having to have my web browser open to learn about different types of things i run across in game. perhapes in your, "playing the game" section?

Where the heck are the stairs? I feel like I might actually make it down and out this run!

  8. It looks like you haven't searched completely through the labyrinth passages. Do that. The exit on labyrinth levels is often hidden in the labyrinth.

learjetzoom, thanks for the kind words, I'm really glad to hear that this grew on you and into your favorite app store game! I think we could probably accommodate some extra things in the info page of RT- maybe a quick and dirty item and monster list for reference!

ksl2006, good luck, hope you have a fun afternoon with it! :)

learjetzoom, Mindfield is right... sometimes the stairs (and other treasures) are hidden inside those mazes so you need to look in every nook! I had the stairs appear inside a maze at least a half dozen times when I made my 37 floor deep super-run! Hope you make it out... You're playing as one of the secret women I see! They are a pretty powerful group :D

    Finally won!

It took me dozens of games and I think I've died by every monster in the dungeon, but I finally won with a non-secret character!

I'd also like to point out that as per the leaderboard, out of the 16 people that have won so far I have the distinction of being the slowest/least-efficient amulet retriever (knocking CD off that pedestal). That kind of procrastination takes true talent.

twalkabout- great job! You killed my score!!! That's an accomplishment to be proud of. As you say, you're the 16th non-secret character to make it out alive, and that is out of OVER 9000!!! scores submitted (sorry for the poor taste DBZ meme, but it's true, I just checked my database)!

At least I'm not the slowest now... as you said it takes true talent to out-procrastinate me! :D

Finally bought it thanks to the sale. Loving it! My best run so far was my third, made it to the tenth floor before I got destroyed by monster's in a treasure room.

I played as the neo special character. I have no clue what bonuses that gave me, but that's what the top rogue on the leaderboard played as so I gave it a shot.

What does the +1 +1 next to weapons and armor mean?

Glad that you're enjoying it, sounds like you've managed to get the hang of the game quickly! It takes a *long* time to master though, as we've discussed in this thread and others :D

    Quickie descriptions for you-

For weapons, an example of a +1, +2 Mace is +1 to hit an enemy, +2 to the normal damage you would do to that enemy.

For armor, it is a bit more complex and maybe confusing if you're not familiar with old fashioned Dungeons and Dragons pen/paper/dice gaming! The short version- based on looking at the armor in your inventory, you want the largest "Armor Class" number.

When you wear that armor, it subtracts from your defense attribute (the little blue shield on your main dungeon game screen). You want that defense number to be *lower*. With no armor you're in boxer shorts at a 10, ideally you want to get some stronger enchanted armor and get your defense level to zero, or even a negative number! The smaller value of defense makes it harder for a monster to hit you :D

Hope that makes some sense to you! We're writing a more detailed FAQ for our website now, so hopefully this will keep you going in the meantime ;)

Just a quick note for everyone reading, if you haven't taken the plunge on Rogue Touch just yet, you still have a small window of opportunity to get it an a great deal!

We had such an enthusiastic response to the weekend sale we are extending it for two more days. So many new faces have come forward and told us that they love the game... we've had thousands of new scores submitted this weekend and added more players than we have in the past month!

Thank you all for the glowing reviews, comments here and my forums, and in iTunes! Every one of you is appreciated greatly, and I'll do my best to keep bringing the great updates you've come to expect :D

    Hey CD!

I have only fiddled with the game for a few minutes. But already, though I've never played Rogue, I can say without hesitation that Rogue Touch is a MUST buy at any price.

If any of you are still hesitating to buy this great game...STOP. Buy. Enjoy. :)

Not only is it a great blend of casual / hardcore, but the combination seems to perfectly fit the "episodic" play style implied by the iphone.

Though I'm not really a fan of the dungeon-crawler genre, it's the updates and CD's amazing dedication to the user base that made me buy it. Heck, for the sale price, I'd buy it to support him/his team (?) even if I didn't plan on playing it!

My opinion re: gameplay isn't worth rat poop yet, but after reading through all the forum threads, I'm confident that an Advanced mode would be a tremendous value-add to the game.

With a Classic mode intact and available, I think you could experiment with many elements without a whole lot of worry over balance (caveat: balance > all), such as the aforementioned traps vs. monsters issue. Sure, there's a lot to deal with there. But if you concentrated on improvements / additions that could be balanced with a few number changes (as opposed to, say, all the mobs in the game!), I think you could manage to stay sane. :)

Example: A store that would sell you a +10/+10 Two-by-four of Insta-gib would be bad. Even healing pots or other utility items could be trouble. A better option might be a store where you could pay a chunk of money to:

    - Add +1/0 or +0/1 to a weapon
    - Enchant armor, weapons, etc with minor (but fun!) buffs
    - Remove cursed stuff
    - Buy grab-bag (unidentified, or identified-after-purchase) items
    - Buy utility items in limited quantity (ex: the store has 3 food items in stock, no restocks)
    - Get the effect of (but not actual item) a selection of scrolls / potions
    - Buy "passable" late-game items...the kind of thing that the game, on average, should probably have supplied you with by, say, level 20

Anyway, for somebody with about 30 minutes of experience playing RT, I've mouthed off enough! Fantastic game, CD, and three /cheer for your incredible support and dedication!

(again keeping mind I am talking out my exhaust pipe)

Example of the change-one-number-to-find-balance thing re: monster traps:

If traps affected mobs for just a couple turns, say, or had a high chance-per-turn of "breaking", letting the monster escape, then they could be a fun way to help with tougher mobs without making it worthwhile/efficient to train mobs all the way back to far away traps.

Point being that if you set it up so getting a single variable right will balance the game element, maybe you'll leave fewer CommanderData -shaped head indentations in your work area...

Hey Rogues, Just played my first game total newb to the game or anything really like it although I have played alot of classic rpg games....

Made it to like floor 13 I think before starving to death....so I have a few questions and sorry if they are somewhere in these many pages and I'll check the other site soon too....

I see now that I could have rationed out my food longer I usually ate the first time I felt faint, also it seemed like there wasnt any food around in lower levels?? Is there less food or is it just hidden somewhere? Is it random? Is there at least one food ration per level ( didnt seem like it anyway ) but curious.

Also there are alot of drink items is there a list of items on your site that tell you what is what or is it random again and you have to find out? Cause I see these scrolls and they seem to tell you what item is what?

Anyway had pretty fun on my first trek so looking forward to going back in, I'll check the thread and other forums sometime though for more info.

  19. It's random. Sometimes you'll find a lot, sometimes, not so much. That's part of the challenge. Finding a Ring of Slow Digestion will help with the food situation -- the challenge there is finding and identifying one. :)

The colours of the potions are randomized each game, but the text you get when you drink one is the same. "You feel very sick" is always a potion of poison, "Your hands begin to glow red" is always a potion of monster confusion, and so on. That's one of the experiences of playing Rogue: Remembering what potions are what by the text you get when you drink one blindly. :) There is a list of all items and their effects in the game here. As I understand it, a bestiary is coming soon.
