To be honest, I'm not exactly sure when version 1.6 will be ready. I've been doing another type of programming for the past several weeks for the "day job", getting ready to fly out to the job site and spend a month integrating and testing everyone's equipment. Yay! Or not! Game programming is much more fun of course. Rogue Touch has not been abandoned, just held up in limbo for a bit. I know, I wish I could spend more time hanging out and getting work done on the iMac! As I said above, things have been wild here- I took on some large consulting projects at the beginning of the year that have come into the home stretch, meaning I get to work roughly 80 hours a week on this stuff and then I have no time or brain cells left to work on RT As far as what will and wont make it into Rogue Touch over the next few updates.... People have made it very clear to me that the base, classic rogue game should not be tampered with. But there are a few clever ways to enhance the experience while leaving floors 1-26 and the original gameplay intact. NPCs may not make the cut, but there will be a way to shop, and probably a separate quest if you choose to leave the Amulet behind and keep diving. I absolutely appreciate the offer of Paypal donations! Several people have suggested it in the past. Many people have come out and said that they feel they *paid TOO little* for something that's given them so much playtime. For now, I'll suggest that you simply do your best to help promote Rogue Touch to friend and perhaps other forums you might visit. And consider buying my next game as encouragement Version 1.6 probably won't be the last update, but very well near the last one. I'd say we could keep cramming ideas into this forever, but eventually we need to move on and start some new games. The Uggles thread I saw here had reached a similar conclusion... continuous updates are usually for diminishing returns, to the point where it doesn't make sense to keep going (unless you are Pocket God). Besides, there's definitely a market for a more advanced rogue-like out there with more stats, quests, etc. I won't do a direct port of anything like Nethack due to the GPL, but I am sure that I can make a lot of people happy with some of my ideas! I'd like to keep specifics about future game plans a bit secretive until development actually starts on them, but once I do I'll try to give teasers at my website and in the upcoming games forum here. An advanced rogue-like in the vein of Nethack or Angband will most certainly be happening. A good possibility of doing a sports game in a retro style (American Football). I also have a couple other really fun game projects that I don't even want to HINT at right here yet!! Finally, I am pretty Scotopia and I will team up on a project or two that may be of interest ------ TL; DR quick summary- Rogue Touch is not dead, there will be a few really welcome updates coming as soon as I can get away from these 80 hour weeks. Many other neat game ideas to fill in the whole rest of the coming year as well! Keep encouraging your friends (and even your enemies) to try Rogue Touch in the meantime, and I think you'll be pleased where things go from here
Hi CD, Did you ever consider approaching Eric from Realmaze 3D about melding RT with his maze system? That would be my idea of Nirvana
I FINALLY FOUND THE AMULET! I started a new level and it was in the spot right next to me. I've climbed about four levels since then. I think I'm going to make it. I have a great weapon and 23 strength(I'm killing dragons with about three strikes). If I get in a bind, I have a wand of cornucopia(!) with about 7 charges left(it had 20 when I found it, so I have plenty of food). I knew this was going to be a good run from the beginning. On the first floor, I found +3 shizouku armor and a katana, then some shurukins in level 2. Starting the game as a samauri was a good omen I'm not using a special character, BTW. Also, does anyone know what the "wrenching sensation" in my gut is?(see picture) I've heard something about food poisoning in this game before. I really hope it's nothing like that.
@NotYou: Dude! Get that thing the hell outta there! I'm happy for you, I have yet to even grasp the amulet But, there's been so many games coming out I haven't played a game of RT in a couple of weeks. I think you've inspired me to dive back in though, thanks! Please report back with the outcome, and good luck!
Congratulations!!!!!!! I have yet to survive long enough to get back to the surface with that blasted amulet the few times I've managed to find it
Wow, good stuff! Ok now I'm all jazzed up again, Im gonna fire up a game. Nice job not using a secret character either, usually peoples first time is using a Neo or something. Ok, gonna dive in. Wish me luck!
I think i can finally stop paying this now. I was determined to beat it and I think that's the only reason I played it. It's definitely not an easy game to get good at.
I'm curious what happened to those FAQ's that CD alluded would be 'coming soon' about 2 months ago? I guess he's busy...
Yeah, unfortunately my day job got in the way of my big plans. Rogue Touch has not been abandoned, just put on hold until I can get these huge projects off my plate. I spent over 4 weeks away from home (and my mac, only got back on Saturday the 20th) now I've got only 2 weeks to prep the next big install and leave again for 3 or 4 more weeks. This is an abnormally busy summer for me, usually I'd have plenty of free time to do my own "fun projects" Once all of these consulting deals wrap up in August I can finally finish up my planned updates for Rogue Touch and start a new game or two for fall release... I have a million ideas, and no free time
While sad for us, the more time the ant toils in the field the more time he'll later have free to play the banjo this summer (bad the ant and grasshopper analogy there).
So looking forward to that Good luck with those other projects of yours. Make sure they earn you lots and lots of lovely dosh, so you can continue making games as good as Rogue Touch
Thanks for the update CD, I always get falsely excited when I see this thread bumped, but it's all good! Happy to know that RT is still on one of your back burners, and I'm always curious to hear about your "millions" of ideas you've got brewing. Handle your business, we'll be waiting here for your return! Sweet Aesop Fable reference, LoL, I feel like I've learned a moral lesson because of you. Although I'm more partial to the Crow and The Pitcher, sadly that one just doesn't apply to this situation. I wish I was witty enough to work The Cock and The Jewel into this thread in some sort of juvenile way, but I'm just not smart enough.
Wow, you're fast!!! I just posted a new topic... Thanksgiving sale, and it will be in effect through Sunday 11/29! A great way to kill some time after overeating tomorrow, or waiting in line at "Black Friday" sales openings, or while waiting for Sword of Fargoal to get approved If there are questions on the game that cannot be answered in this thread or the new one (or the forums linked in my sig), I'll do my best to fill in tomorrow morning... Enjoy!
Could someone please Post translations of the scrolls for me and tell me what each color potion does? Thanks guys :]
