CD promises an easier way to manage your Hall of Fame entries in an upcoming update, if I heard him right (but not sure if it's already slated for v1.6).
So I finally retrieved the amulet!! Granted I used Neo, but still now I can move on from using secret characters. Neo- Dragonlord- WINNER 19394 steps 223 kills 10922 gold My girlfriend also got hooked on the game, and a problem came up. We have two ipod touches, 1 is a 32 gb, the other is a 1st gen 8gb. I downloaded the software upgrade through itunes for my 8gb so we could both play rogue touch at the same time. She got up to the 17th floor (she wanted me to tell you that its a non special character, and shes a beast), and the game keeps crashing. I tried restarting the ipod, but its the same problem. As soon as she gets up to the room with the stairs, it crashes. Thanks for any help. Anyway to fix this?
this may be due to a bug secondary to wearing a ring of searching (or perhaps of disarming). have her take off any rings and see if that works. if that's a no go, she could try to find a pit trap and fall through it.
Yeah, twalkabout's been following our discussion at the ChronoSoft forums... what it looks like is that there's some malformed "trap" data. If you have on a ring of searching or are playing as secret character Gimli or Admiral Ackbar if it searches for you and finds one of these "bad traps" the game crashes. It is repeatable in the same floor if one exists. Removing the ring of searching can help, but if you happen to STEP on that "bad trap" anyway (maybe it's in the doorway leading to the stairs) then the same thing could happen. I'm fixing that in version 1.6... Hopefully that will be submitted soon. By the way- great job on your win, and your girlfriend sounds like an awesome player (and beast!) as well! Hopefully you'll enjoy the upcoming enhancements we've got in mind... now if only I had enough time in the day to program all of it

Ahh okay, thanks for the answers. I told myself I wasn't going to play as Neo again, but I wanted to make a run at the top Special Characters list. I'm on the 31st floor right now, but I'm still only at 10623 gold, wishing I had a ring of searching.
ahhhh! I was trying to get the #1 spot on the secret character list. I thought I had it, but I didn't realize when I died I lost some of my gold.. I really wanted to start a new game, I was tired of being on the same run, so I killed myself right after I got just enough gold. Live and learn I guess.
Hey, great try! You're right, when you die (rather than exit with the Amulet) you lose 10% of your gold. This is the way the original rogue operates too, I think the 10% is supposed to be a payment to the guild. Maybe for the "future adventurer fund" or something There's a number of great possibilities for other characters to try next. Neo is the easiest one to deep-dive with, but some of these others guys and girls can hold their own! I see your girlfriend's doing quite well too in the rankings... she'll be #1 soon enough if she keeps learning at that rate! Good Luck on your next run!
Don't feel too bad anyway, because soon after Elysium posted a crazy 300k score after going to floor 251 (link goes to Chronosoft forum thread where he talks about it). So your top score would have been short lived regardless. I just found out about the 10% loss the hard way myself. Nice game though.
How do you all go so deep? xD All I can get up to is level 22 or so at the most, I use Athena mainly. Any tips? Like what items to save/throw/use, etc.... I really wanna get the amulet then try to go deep.
Don't feel bad about not getting very deep I myself have only gotten to the amulet once and got clobbered immediately Many of the crazy deep dives are done with the secret character Neo, since he is permanently fast. Luck in getting good weapons and armor helps too, though you can tilt the odds a bit by farming your skeltons.......dangerous, but can get you some decent gear. Try a character that has stuff you want(like a blessed 2-handed sword), take it down a couple of floors while NOT leveling up, drop everything but what you want, then kill then off. Next game, use your favorite character and level up as much as you can before you fight your corpse in an open area.......if you can kill and/or loot it, you might gain the desired gear. A word of warning: secret character corpses are stronger than normal ones. The forum at the ChronoSoft website has lots of useful information........and if you go to the high score site, there's a tab there that takes you to pages with all the gear and monsters in the game, a great help in determining what weapons and armors are better to keep in your inventory. I always read chronosoft forums ;p. Also I like Athena for her sword, scroll reading ability and the armour she has. I could try Neo, right now doing a non secret run. But the things that get me are the dang griffins / urviles / trolls at higher levels. They usually swarm me where I can't excape, I've done soooo many runs ;p But its still addicting and fun.
Athena has better equipment, sure, but if you are just trying to go as deep as possible, equipment means absolutely nothing. When you can't hit monsters at all, it makes no difference how good of a sword you have, and when you're deep enough you will have already identified every single scroll and potion in the game. What makes Neo so ridiculously powerful is that he is tailor made to escape nearly any situation. He moves twice as fast as any monster except a griffon, and he can see where they all are! See a monster coming towards you? Just go the other way. Need to get around a monster? Easy, just take one diagonal step around him, and then a second one past him, you take a hit (one hit) but then you're on the other side of him, free to run away. If you do get into a fight, simply attack, step back, attack, step back. They can't even hit you! He's so powerful it's crazy. I mean hell, I'm pretty sure he eats food at 1/2 rate, so you will have tons of that later on to throw at monsters to make them sleep (basically free potions of paralysis!). Going really deep with Neo is simply a matter of not getting trapped between monsters where you can't escape. If you can horde scrolls of teleport (or even a teleport ring) and wands of teleport away, you are pretty much unstoppable.
At the moment im just trying to get the amulet and get out, never gotten that before. I used Athena again and got up to level 22, medusa got me cause of confusion. I was doing great too, was up to 26 strength.
It should still be easier with Neo, for the same reasons I already mentioned. It's hard to understate how powerful it is to just keep backing up and hitting monsters until they die, with no chance for them to hit you (although watch out for dragons to flame you if you back up sometimes...). Also, in terms of equipment, Neo can see every item in the game on the minimap so you basically will never not get all the items except for hitting a pit trap.
Those medusas are murder.......last time I made it down to floor 22 and was doing really great til one of those confused me
The thing I don't like about Neo is his starting equipment, I love killing monsters heh. I did a Neo run earlier and found a spartan cuirass , couldnt equip cause of a cursed item.... then got to a floor with powerful magic and ended up hitting a pitfall, so died early on after that. I wish i didnt hit that pitfall =\
