No problem. I'm going to bet here you're doing what would only make common sense, eating a food ration when you get the hunger message, right? Well screw common sense in this case! In Rogue it's all about stretching stuff to the breaking point. In the future try not to eat the ration until you're weak or feinting. The reason being that, much like a gas tank giving you a low fuel warning, there actually is a fair amount of fuel still in there before your food tank really hits empty. Refueling before you hit rock bottom means a lot of wasted food efficiency. If already at the feinting stage without a food ration in sight...things don't sound to good. Your best bet is to scramble as best you can to find food before it's too late. You can't waste any time backtracking through rooms you've already looked into. The ultimate slap in the face, and I've had it many time myself, is when out of food and unable to find the floor's exit. While you're constantly passing out every other turn is one heck of a crappy time to need to spend hundreds of turns searching for a door!
I, in my definately uninfinate (but growing by the day) wisdom of Rogue Touch, second LordGek there. I would add that the old 'every 3 squares' trick whilst searching rooms helps conserve moves (in other words, don't search every bit of wall, but every third bit), and thus stave off hunger just that intsy-wintsy bit longer
I bought this game about a week ago when it was priced at 2.99. Wish I had waited a bit longer for the .99 price, but its all good. It took me until yesterday to really sit down and try, but now I'm hooked. I've down about 10 runs, my worst lasted 7 steps and landed me on the worst rogues leaderboard (I'm happy it gets refreshed every 48 hours lol). I spawned with one of those wands that can change an enemey, and I changed one into that horse creature and got owned. I've had a few runs into the 13-14 levels, only to get wiped out by a troll. I did do 1 run with the special character neo, got up to the 19th floor and got trapped by a phantom/griffin combo. I don't think I'll be using Neo for awhile, don't want to get used to seeing all the items and all that speed, it was cool though. I have a couple of questions though: On the D-pad setting there are the arrows, and inventory button, what is the button on the left, titled "r"? It never seems to do anything for me, its probably nothing, just curious about it. My next question is more of a strategy one. Here are my top 3 runs: Neo 11023 steps 136 kills 19th level Nidreu 6788 steps 90 kills 14th level Nidreu 5981 steps 89 kills 13th level I noticed that other players that died around the 13th-14th level usually had 10-20 more kills than me. How are they doing this? Waiting for the monsters to repawn in lower levels? Or did more monsters happen to generate on their run? I only looked at the recent rogue leaderboard a handful of times, and while I realize its a small sample size, I figured I wasn't killing enough and didn't have enough experience/chance at better drops. Any tips on how to fix this? Next question: When I come across snakes and the water guys that wear down armor, I try and kill them from a distance. How do you deal with them if you are out of long range equipment, just duke it out and try and find a potion that restores strength? Lets say I'm out of a long range equipment, but have a potion that paralyzes them, should I just save the potion and hope to come across something that restores strength? And finally, I always seem to get stuck with a cursed armor, and I have yet to come across anything that removes curses. Are removes curse scrolls more rare than others? Also I'll note that while on my two runs with nidreu I didnt find any cool rings, and with my 1 Neo run I found a regeneration, +2 dex, sustain strength and slow digestion. booooo, wish I could have saved the good fortune for my regular runs lol. Again, awesome game and I'm sure I'll be spending many more hours with it.
The only part of your post I can at least competently reply on! Both a Scroll of Remove Curse and a Scroll of Enchant Armor.
Yeah, that one has stumped me too....I'd love to know, even though I actually prefer playing without the D-pad, but I'm still curious...
This game is SERIOUSLY the posterchild for a "LOVE-HATE" relationship... You get screwed so easily in this game and it's soooo hard but thats why you can't help but say damn that sucked, but i can't wait to start another game hopefully i'll find a warhammer or a "ring of tehwin"
The little "r" button stands for "ranged weapon", so if you're carrying something like a bow with arrows or one of the staff/wands, you can just click the little "r" and pick a direction and it will shoot your weapon in that direction. Also works with throwable weapons like hammers. If you have a sword or something that you can't throw or zap with, then the button doesn't do anything. Basically just saves you a trip into the menu screen. Very handy In regards to the next question, when you run into Aquators, the water guys, and they aren't directly next to you then remove your armor. They don't cause you any damage, they just rust your armor. So if you remove it, there is nothing for them to rust and you can just hammer them til they're dead. Also, you can come accross a scroll that will make your armor "shimmer with a gold glow" or something like that, that will protect you from rust as well. Also, blessed armor or elfin armor I believe are also waterproof. Just remember if you run up on an Aquator and he's right next to you, you can try to remove your armor but it will take up a turn and he will douse you anyway. Those guys are a pain! Snakes however don't affect your actual armor, but sometimes when they bite you they poison you and will drop a point of your strength. In that case, the only ways you will get that back up is with a potion of restore strength, which you should be running accross at least a few of these each run. Hope that helps, glad you're enjoying this game!!
Consider this game therapeutic and a lot cheaper than having to hire some Dominatrix to walk on your back with high heeled shoes.
Hah! I wish. I never seem to find these things and those snakes are the bane of my existence... Well, no. The trolls are the bane of my existence. But the snakes don't help. Leather armor is also rustproof. So is enchanting leather armor until it's decent also a possible alternative?
Damn it I'm running into hunger problems, but I've worked to hard too restart. I'm on floor seventeen and have probably enchanted my +3 +3 shocking warhammer like seven times, and have a ring of searching and ring of regeneration. Plus a scare monster scroll and 2 scrolls of identify and 2 scrolls of remove curse. Oh well...really getting into it now.
Agreed, that is hilarious. I guess the truly hardcore could have her walk around on your back while your're actually playing Rogue Touch and the Griffens are beating the crap out of you and freakin leprachauns are jacking all your gold
Tip: You have two rings that don't need to be worn all the time. (You don't need to regenerate when you're already healed; you don't need to search when you've found all doors/rooms.) Problem: These eat your energy and cause you to become hungry more quickly. Solution: Remove them when they're not needed. This goes for any rings -- other than adornment, anyway, which doesn't do anything.
Oh, duh, nice one (should have added that fact in when discussing food conservation). Rings can suck your food mightily so, especially when low it is key to minimize their use. Perhaps once a more advanced guide is made we can get a better idea of what rates they drain you (the only one I know for sure is a Ring of Regeneration sucks out food energy at an INSANE OFF THE CHARTS rate).
Yeah, that sucker will eat your food for you. They all will to some degree though, so unless it's something you absolutely can't waste a turn putting on, it's always a good idea to remove it. The base rate of food consumption less rings is actually pretty acceptable; I can usually explore several levels before I become hungry, but I can rip through my food stores in two to four times that rate with certain ring combos. However, regeneration + slow digestion is probably a very handy combination of rings to be wearing. (Actually, I'm pretty sure regeneration will still sap more energy than the ring of slow digestion will conserve.)
LOL, too true, damn Trolls!! Well you're right, leather armor is waterproof, but it would take a TON of enchant armor scrolls to get that thing to be of much use. But then again, some nice waterproof leather armor with an armor class of 3 might be loads better than your -12 ring mail that's been jacked by all the Aquators a million times! LOL!!! Yeah half the fun of this game is swapping stories of "getting the shaft" in brutal ways. Never gets old!!!
