Well I'll tell you what, those monster's are pretty damn inconsiderate. The nerve of those monsters, laughing at a poor newbie who doesn't know how to wield his scrolls. I don't laugh at the ice monsters when Thor's hammer smashs them into electro bits....just saying.

Hey everyone, just wanted to pop back in to say I'm hard at work on version 1.6 now (it's my night shift job in the hotel while on my business trip! Double duty here!) and hopefully we'll be ready to talk about it's features next week.

In the meantime- you still have an opportunity to buy Rogue Touch for only 99 cents until Monday 4/20/2009 if you haven't already. On Monday we'll be returning to our usual $2.99 so act this weekend if you're intrigued by the oldest, coolest dungeon crawler ever made :D

Thanks again to everyone who's been supportive of us and our first game. Can't wait to spring some new surprises on you all throughout this year!!!

You planned this well as this game is so open to just tossing new nonsense in (or maybe taking old aspects out) that you could never pull in a standard RPG.

You expect me to wind my way through that whole story with all of it's wacky (although now completely predictable since you already been through it) plot twists just to see a couple of new encounters they've added to the haunted forest?

Whereas with this it can be, "Hey gang, I just added in two new potions, a new monster, and 3 Secret Characters all based on 18th Century Fairy Tales, dig in!" and it wouldn't really seem strange at all.

  4. But that's what makes Rogue Rogue. No key quest grinds, side quests or fetch quests, no princesses or towns to save, no story arc, no subplots, no special items that are useful only in one scenario but weigh you down for half the game, no alliances to forge, people to talk to, clues to gather, puzzles to solve, scripted events -- just you, your items, your wits, and the mission to retrieve the amulet and kill anything that gets in your way. Of course, any or all of these points can be added if desired -- but that's what makes Rogue so great. It's an open book, and anyone with the ability can write their own chapters.

Posted this on chronosoft's official forums but I figured people would be interested here, too. I finished as Kestre, quickest rogue win so far :)

I won last night! I knew I had a good game going and was very nervous approaching lvl 26 then on every floor on the way up until lvl 10 or so when I began to relax. Whew.

    Things I Didn't Have:
    -Vorpalize
    -Ring of Searching
-Much food. When I got the amulet I think I had 2 food and 3 mushrooms. Ended the game with 2 mushrooms left.

    Things I Did Have:
    -Protected Armor by level 10.
-Enchanted armor to AC 0 by around lvl 16
-Ring of Stealth early on, which was excellent.
-Wands of paralysis, potions of paralysis
-Ring of teleport (cursed). This proved to be a godsend around lvl 22 when I tried it on. Hadn't seen an Identify in a while, needed to take a chance. When I ran into a medusa? No problem, run until I get teleported away. Can't find the hidden door in the large complex of rooms? No worries eventually I'll teleport to an unsearched section. I only got teleported away from the stairs (in view) about three times, two of those on lvl 1 riiiight before the end.

I was lucky with many scrolls early on, though not many potions. When I had some decent armor and weapons (I used a 2 handed long sword) I tried all my unknown scrolls. Used identifies on rings and potions. One funny moment was putting on a ring of aggravate monster(!) but I had a remove curse scroll just in case on me. I also used my create monsters while on stairs for more exp.

On the scary levels, I paralyzed Griffons, Medusas, and Jabberwockies. If I were feeling lucky, I'd step back as far as I could and start hurling all my throwable weapons (two battle axes, a war hammer, a mace). Several times I used the run-away-until-teleported method. Sometimes I just took them down. I think jabberwocks give insane exp but I only killed a couple. Ur-viles, Vampires, and Xerocs I just killed without too much worries.

Oh, and I fell down a pit TWICE on the way through level 22 ascending. That was stressful.

By the skin of your teeth then? Nice one and PROOF there isn't just one ideal set of equipment in this game. Playing intelligently trumps any particular piece of equipment any day.

Great job Suneun! As Lord Gek points out, there's not just a single set of great equipment to make a winning game. Your best piece of equipment is always your brain! Use it well, and you can escape a lot of seemingly impossible predicaments... Not all, but most of them ;)

Other interesting news: The Leaderboards are still going strong, a lot of talented players showing up now! We've had over 17,500 scores submitted in the past few weeks since the boards went live... pretty amazing amount of dungeon diving if you ask me! We've got a couple more categories ready to open up shortly, and a bunch of mined statistics that will be put on display for your viewing pleasure :)

Since everyone has asked me about it regularly, I finally decided to set up a twitter feed for ChronoSoft... hope you enjoy my ramblings about programming, games, and of course Rogue Touch and our future projects :D

Guys i hate to ask bc i got a feeling it been ask some where in the forums..i cant find it. But i am on a lvl where i cant find the stairs :( what do i need to go?

  12. Look at the map. Find an area that looks suspiciously like there should be a room there. go to the room(s) closest to that area and search the walls; you may have to search 10-20 times, but searching works in a 3x3 area so you can search every other wall segment. You'll find the secret door eventually. :)

I am pretty new to rogue touch but I figured I should report this bug I have been having. I started a game as Athena and I played till I got to level 9 before exiting the game. Until then every time I searched the wall and got the "" was here message with the name of my previous character in it. When I restarted the game it started doing the (null) was here thing. It was also on this level that I found what I assume is my previous character's remains for the first time. Thinking that it would give me something for standing on top of it I moved over to it but as soon I touched it the game crashed and restarted at the place I was when I last reopened the game. Beside reporting the bug, I would also like to know what the skeleton normally does as well. Thanks.

also if it helps I have a none jailbroken Iphone 3g version 2.2.1

The bones reanimate into a skeleton and attacks you.

Hmm, I've seen the (null) issue and it's due to an incorrectly retained name of the dead guy or gal :) It is currently being worked on among other things for the next version.

The bones you should be able to either:

    1) Walk directly over, in which case you will probably find one of the previous character's items in the bones. Then they disappear.

    2) Try to walk over them, and they jump up and attack as a skeleton! The stats of this enemy are similar to those of the character you were playing when you last died, which can make them very tough to kill! If you do manage to kill him, you'll get a number of items from your previous corpse! :D

Now, for it to crash when you try to step on the bones I'd wager that something was corrupted with that previous character info (maybe the (null) scrawling was a symptom of this rather than my other findings).

I'll do my best to get it sorted out right away for you though! We'll be talking about version 1.6 more this week, so keep an eye out. :D

Well I don't think it's just Thor but, everything turns green and colorful, and you get a couple of texts to the effect that "regaining your sense of reality" or something like that. And all items show up as flowers. Absolutely hilarious.
