I know this is probably just me but I'd love to see more "flawed" characters...basically guys with cool equipment or special abilities but at the same time at least some inherit drawbacks so as to at least be semi balanced and not ALL GOOD like, say, Thor. I think the easiest way to achieve this balance is to downgrade the starting equipment...like if this character has some insanely powerful sword, maybe he could lose the armor. Oh, or maybe some really buffed out guy with great equipment, maybe a special ability or two...but with a cursed Ring of Narcolepsy already on.
Yes, I was definitely thinking about the same thing! It would give the game such a different play style. Say, you could play a 'David' character which has a maximum strength capped at a lower level but has a higher dexterity and has special bonuses for any ranged weapons. It is kind of a way of having different 'races' without having to introduce different races.
yeah, skills! ...or a wand of cornucopia Yeah that's a good idea... kind of like introducing a higher difficulty level without having to mess with the game. The characters could become challenges for more confident players just like the current batch are good intros for the less confident. How about a character that has permanent blindness (so immediate squares are black) but conversely permanent clairvoyance like Neo, due to heightened senses of smell and hearing?
How about Enrico Pollini from Rat Race? He could have Searching and Slow Digestion (for speed) but balanced with permanent Narcolepsy...
Well I'm a new Rogue so I'll just speak for the noobs, but the games awesome. Pretty much flawless concept execution. This is one of those games that's ALL about gameplay. I would go so far as to say it's one of the "greats" on the app store.
Lord Gek, I'm going to send you a copy of what I sent CD early this morning by way of the ChronoSoft board PM.......once I go online on my laptop(am on my iTouch right now)
Spooky, when I read romulus's description I immediately thought of DareDevil! He'd be an interesting character to play for sure. I will see if I can work him into version 1.6... a "free guess" at the new characters if you like Another crazy idea! Narcolepsy would be a serious handicap... maybe even more than DareDevil's blindness. I wonder if anyone could survive that? le'deuche123, thanks so much for speaking up about the game! I'm glad to hear that it's taken in new and seasoned players alike... The sale sure helped a lot of new people discover a classic game for the first time too NightOwl40, I got your PM from early today! Just not enough time to respond properly yet, but I did like many of the ideas you presented there! If anyone else from the ChronoSoft forums or here needs me, I'll be back later this evening. Just popped in from an open terminal at the facility I'm working in today, unfortunately I need to get back to it shortly PS - Mods, thank you for cleaning up my thread. It's greatly appreciated!
That's who I started with. He's pretty unstoppable right now. That fricking hammer just destroys everything......then again I'm only on the 8th level
OK, I promised myself I would leave and get back to work, but I love talking about this stuff Neo is pretty god-like in Rogue Touch... seeing all enemy positions, items, and being fast and just too cool But as a new player if you get used to those things it hurts your ability to play weaker or normal characters down the road. Thor was a good compromise for training, because he's just a big dumb normal guy with great equipment.... Actually one of the other cheap characters in the game is Drizzt- freezing weapon, night vision, stealth... what's not to love!
Yeah I'm pretty happy with Thor, although being double cursed with two rings of teleportation makes exploring a bit of a pain Also I got a scroll of monster confusion. Which unless I'm mistaken is the most powerful scroll in the game EDIT: Nope I was wrong, it's the scare monster scroll I'm looking for. The one I read though made the monsters laugh at me. Anybody know what the scroll of monster confusion does? EDIT#2 Everytime posts are removed from threads, I stare blankly for about 5 minutes wondering whether it was all in my head
It's a glitch in the Matrix. You get used to it after a while! I don't even see the forum code anymore Anyway- monster confusion- makes your hands glow red. When you hit a monster successfully it puts them under a confusion spell... which works basically the same as throwing a potion of confusion at them too!
If you read one that caused the monsters to laugh at you, that was Scare Monster. Monster confusion turns your hands red for a period of time, and from then on any creatures you strike will become confused until it wears off.
I found that standing on the scare monster scroll really does work well, but it only works once. It's great if you're forced into it, but if you're in that bad of a spot, you're just delaying the inevitable.
Not necessarily. If you're surrounded by nasties -- or just one or two creatures, and you're low on hit points, drop the scroll and you'll be good to heal back up. The scroll only ceases to have any effect when you step off of it, and it can't be picked up again.
Crap, so let me get this straight. The first scare monster scroll you get is only useful to determine the name of the scare monster scrolls in the dungeon you are currently playing??? Is that correct?? I assume I will have to remember the name and then when I find another I shouldn't read it but drop it and stand on when needed?? Is all that pretty correct??
That's exactly right, yes. It does not self-identify so you need to remember the cryptic name of the scroll for the next time you find one. Either that or use an identify scroll on one if you find another. Kind of a waste of an identify scroll though.
