It plays like an old-school roguelike, using hand management, card draw and dice rolling as primary game mechanics. Players will need to figure out how best to use their hero abilities, skills, items, experience and luck to survive. It's a loot management game at its core and that's where its charm comes from. You might start the game with a hunk of meat, that you use to charm a wolf, who helps you defeat the zombie who drops a lockpick, which you use to open the safe, where you find the jeweled goblet, which you trade for a lucky shield, which you use to block the dragon's fire. This game is hard and you will DIE! However, experience and skillful play will ensure that veteran Rogues will make it out of the dungeon alive. That's more than you will. You, you're going to end up in a goblin's belly. Prove us wrong! Pick your Rogue, grab your starting loot, grab your skills, set your starting stats and enter the dungeon. Choose which room to navigate to via the mini maps. Rooms are divided into the following types.... Traders - Offer you a choice to trade loot or stats for other loot, stats, or henchmen. Some trades involve a stat test or the luck of a die. Loot traders typically trade two items for any one item they offer for trade. They make exceptions for the shiny stuff and will trade any item for a single treasure. Combat - Most combat rooms draw 1 to 3 monsters from the monster deck equal to the dungeon level. Combat is resolved using your Rogues primary stat and a D10. If the two combined are greater than the monsters combat stat, your Rogue hits the monster. If it's less, the monster hits your Rogue. If equal, both are hit. Damage can be negated by discarding an armor or by playing a skill or magical item. Potions and food can be consumed at any time to increase your health and prevent your death. Some monsters have a weakness to specific thematic loot and are vanquished immediately such as when the Medusa gets a look at her face in the mirror's reflection. Once a monster's health reaches zero, the monster dies and you receive one loot and XP equal to the dungeon level. Traps - traps litter the dungeon but most can be disarmed or bypassed if you have the appropriate equipment. Even if the gremlins ran off with your rope, there is always a chance you can come out unscathed if you pass an appropriate Strength, Agility or Intelligence test. If successful, tests result in an XP reward and avoiding any potential damage. All rolls maybe manipulated with the use of the luck stat. Spending one luck will allow you to modify a die result by 1 up or down, or allow for a complete reroll. Play progresses through 5 dungeon levels separated by a staircase. You may camp at the stairs without the threat of a wandering monster interrupting your siesta. You may level your Rogue at anytime so long as you have the XP. When you get to the final room, draw a boss monster and fight. Many monsters have special abilities activated depending on your attack roll. They can summon additional monsters, drain your level, heal, etc... Information Seller:Cerberus Gate Games, LLC. Bought the physical version as well. Great game. But I wanted something like it but different. This May be it. I will try to leave impressions tonight. I am also playing a lot of Sagrada which I bought on iOS last week and then picked up the physical. Been playing physical with the family. Love finding great board games on iOS. It’s where I found many other great games like potion explosion, fantasy realms, bottom of the ninth, roll player and my fav Wingspan. And so many more really. Looking forward to trying this out later tonight. naghihimutuc and ste86uk like this. Been playing for hours now! Don‘t have anything bad to say about it. Easy to understand, plays pretty straight forward, looks and sounds great. There are two modes, classic campain which works more like an RPG (purchase party members, buy equipment, venture out on a set campain), as well as the main mode, which starts a roguelike run with randomly created floors. Only meta progression there is character unlocks. Yes, RNG plays a big role since you roll the dice in all battles and events, but there‘s a lot you can do in case you have some good loot equipped. I don‘t think it‘s any harder or more random that other classic RPGs. I‘m having loads of fun with this game. Well worth the price and will stay on my iPhone (13 mini) for a long time. naghihimutuc, adin, Ijipop and 5 others like this. anthony78 Well-Known Member Nov 13, 2015 3,121 695 113 #8 anthony78, Feb 20, 2024 So is there no way to save mid-dungeon? Can’t seem to find a way and closing the app caused me to lose my progress during one. Huge bummer if there is no way. Hopefully I’m just missing something. I really do not enjoy it as much as others here. I may have to start again and pay better attention to the vast tutorial but something just isn’t clicking. I find it very confusing at times. Rolling doesn’t feel genuine for some reason. I had high hopes, but not for me. Also the game has issues that make the experience even less fun, again for me at least. It doesn’t save mid game, so you have to finish a run. Also 80% of the time when I go to grab a card from the bottom I close the game. When you choose your first hero or any hero for that matter you don’t know what they do. You can’t hold down for info. I think the app and game need some love. Again others seem to be enjoying it. But it’s not a smooth experience and doesn’t feel like a rewarding board game. I couldn’t imagine playing this physical. It would be a mess, stuff everywhere lol. Roll player is fantastic imo. Very smooth experience on iPhone. Great single player game. Lots of options. Really feels like you are creating a character. You just end up wishing you could take them into battle lol. If you haven’t played Wingspan I would heavily consider that. It’s just incredible. One of my favorite iPhone experiences of all time. Sagrada is another great dice game. Really enjoying that recently. Wingspan, Roll player, Sagrada, Potion explosion, fantasy realms, splendor, Jaipur, ticket to ride, and bottom of the 9th are some of my favorite iPhone board games. Everyone one of those I have the physical version as well. All of them done fantastically on iOS. solarnya, Ijipop and nickhoola like this. vectorarchitekt Well-Known Member Dec 29, 2013 2,489 177 63 #18 vectorarchitekt, Feb 22, 2024 Interesting feedback. Wingspan was a classic the instant they released the app.Fantasy realms is in a folder somewhere. Will have to give it a second spin.Sagrada is nice but I felt it was supposed to be played with real people. Though the app is superb.Splendor and Splendor duel is a family favorite here! And bottom of the ninth is one of my classic too! I guess there is only Roll player left to try! As for now there is no DLC for Roll but I’m pretty sure there is an actual extension that brings monsters to the table. If you haven’t tried. Smash up, Small world and Mystic Vale are very liked by me and my wife. So thank you good sir!
