While I’m a little peeved because it’s not the real deal and I think they could’ve pulled it off even on touch screens, the trailer and a few alpha plays out there on YT do actually make this look quite fun. I was afraid the 2D aspect might lose some of the technical depth of this game (never thought I’d say that about rocket league but at the experienced end, pulling off moves does take technical prowess). However, looking at alpha gameplay, it doesn’t look ‘that easy’ and does seem to require some practice and perhaps finesse. We shall see. Mostly very excited.
Out now in Oceania, which includes NZ and AU stores which I know a lot of people here have accounts in. Doesn't appear to be region-locked as I was able to play online already and it is EFFING AWESOME so far. Do note you need an Epic Games account to play online, but you can play offline without an account if you just want to fiddle around with it. They say most or all progress will be wiped when the game launches worldwide, so don't get too invested in your unlocks and stuff during this soft launch. I am having so much fun with this. They’ve nailed the feel of the game but in 2D format. So much fun pulling off goal scoring/saving moves.
