So which one is it? Should we buy the games knowing they will be free 2 days later, or should we wait and grab it when it's free? I don't know why everyone's getting on ak47's case about it. He said was that he knew not to buy Colorbox's games early due to their pricing strat, which seems like the smart thing to do. Just like how it's the developers' right to set and change prices however they see fit, it's also the consumers' right to buy or wait accordingly. No one needs to support a dev that screws early adopters if they don't feel like it (of course, there's nothing wrong with supporting them if you wish to do so). Ironically, rather than the people QQing about price wasting forum space, it's the anti-QQers doing it here.
Sorry for stating my opinion. Just saying that just about every game on the app store goes free at one point or another through the various app promotion sites (even ones that were already successful). I just don't think it's fair to single out Colorbox for what they did. In this case, they probably are doing it just to get some attention to their app. As I mentioned, this has happened to me before and I too get upset about it. But it's just the way things work on the app store and I, at least, choose not to automatically cross a dev off my list for future buying just because of something like this. Sure it stings. But devs often have valid reasons for doing so. Everyone can choose what they want to do. And I sometimes don't buy an app merely because I can't buy everything that comes out so when it goes free, sure I'm happy about it. But I also think don't think it's right to not support a dev in the future when I'm on the flip side of the coin and paid for something that went free. If it's a good game, then I don't mind that I paid for it. If it's a bad game, well, that's a different story and I might not buy from them again just because I don't like their games. There's plenty of people that feel that way that ak47killa feel. So maybe I shouldn't have jumped down his throat. Everyone's entitled to do what they want. And really, that's what drives the whole app store economy.
Those of us who follow these forums are more informed consumers than most people who own an iPhone/iPod/iPad. Being an informed consumer, it makes sense to wait for the price drops if you want to save the money and know it's coming. If the money isn't a big deal to you and you don't want to wait and/or feel you want to support a developer, then that makes sense for you. I don't really see any reason for people to get so bent out of shape over it.
For dudes that angry on me about the free, please understand for our indie developers. I clarify it in the main Rip Off thread already. Lastly, I'm really sorry you guys.
Hey, Flippy its not about the money. I spend $15 to $30 a week on games I never complain go back and read all of my reply's.
