I got it after getting a ton of fish from Maelstrom. Maybe you get it when they reach a certain height in the sky... BTW, just passed about 9 mimic fish.
I just got almost to 2000m and I've got no option to buy the top hat, so if it is based on height it must be very high. There are two other hats and one gun I've not bought yet though, maybe you have to buy everything else before you can buy it? Also I caught (well, electrocuted!) my first mimic fish recently! Yay finally!
I suspect that you may have to be Eagleman rank in order for it to show up at the store. So are you? If you don't know this already, you can actually use the minigun and glitch the height, just aim directly below the fish and it will rise without getting killed. I was curious to see what's up there and I managed a height of 7k meters above sea level, there's nothing in the sky. I did this long before the latest update though.
The top hat just appeared as a new buyable item in the misc category of the shop after the second round I played post update. The knife appeared after the first round...
I want this game so bad. I had no monies dough. I'm not sure if I can use a debit card I buy it because I don't see that option. Ive only had iPod for 3 weeks now and have no clue how very thing about apple works
You don't have to be Eagleman rank. I was 6 fish away form Eagleman when I bought my Top Hat. I suspect it has to do with how much money you had when you visited the store. I bought it around $880,000, and it's description is "A good place to store your wealth." It seems heavily money-centered.
That's not good :-( Don't think I'll update then, especially when others are saying it causes the game to freeze too. I'm on ios 7 so I'd hate to think what will happen :-/
It appears to actually be everything in the store. I had everything available except the Bazooka. After purchasing the bazooka, the Top Hat was waiting for me the next time I entered.
Perhaps it is everything in the store. I had caught every fish and bought every item before I got the top hat. In case you were wondering about the top hat, there is a little button on the side of the screen and when you press it, all your money goes into the hat. The hat then grows in height depending on the money you put into it. I've put about $11k into mine so far and it looks like this:
I would like to report a bug to the dev: the hover-saw lure does not work on my iPad 2 unless i tap 2 fingers on the screen at once, which is very annoying... It works just fine with one finger on my iPhone 4 though. This has only happened since the update. I am running iOS 6.1.3.
@Devs: I updated and now the game won't load. It tries to load, starts Game Center and crashes... Not nice. I had all the fish caught already and many objects bought. Now I'll have to start again... If it ever decides to run
