If that is what I have to look forward to than I think I will just delete it. At least I am relatively familiar with the gameplay now and have an idea of what to look forward to (without the freemium model restraints) when and if I decide to get Ridiculous Fishing. About the only time I use in-app purchases are for art apps, like Paper for example. I rarely do in-app purchases for games where I could grind instead. But when the grinding is too much, I would rather pay premium if I really want to experience the whole game and think it will add enough value to the existing gameplay.
I honestly don't think there is much at all. There is an endless line and level, but not much incentive to play unless you are really dedicated to getting a high score. Money doesn't matter at all at this point, so the reeling in is really just frustrating a chore that takes too long and gets in the way of high score hunting. That being said, it is a great game that is without question worth 3 bucks, just not one I personally will continue to play since I have all the fish. Towards the end, I found fish hunting more fun then just going for depth. It would be cool if there were super rare fish that came with unique rewards.
Rave reviews on TA. TA Plays gameplay video. Sanuku's video. 10 other rave reviews (on sites that I frequent), a friend bugging me about it. All this adds up to 'Pretty Safe Bet'. Spent my money. Didn't regret it.
Hi Guys, could you please help me out understanding how to change in game clock ? Is the weather supposed to change if i play at night or does it stay sunny? Because my game seems to always stay sunny, no matter if i play in the evening or if I change my device clock (ipad mini).... I don't know how to catch those fishes appearing only during the night.... Thanks for your help
which means there is endless replay value. I don't understand why "getting a high score" doesn't qualify as replay value. If a game is fun and you always feel like you want to try and beat your own or someone elses high score then theres pretty much endless incentive to play. Its really the foundation upon which arcade gaming is built. To me, that's better value than the grinding to buy items and upgrades. I'm really only trying to buy everything in RF so that I can have all the stuff maxed out and can start shooting for high scores...
I guess I didn't make my point clear. Endless runners have plenty of replay value just going for a high score. The problem with this one is that every time you mess up you have to go through the whole process of reeling in and shooting all the fish. It feels like a chore to me. In my opinion it, that process is not very fun when you mess up and hit something early on. A recast button would certainly help. I think its possible the developers made the conscious decision not to enable that mechanic, maybe for realism or as a form of punishment for messing up. A fair design decision, but not one that I enjoy after collecting everything. When I am going for a high score, I don't want to have to spend 2-3 minutes between each attempt- especially on a casual Mobil game. I think what would help the replay even more though would be more rare fish, to me that is what makes this game unique. I do think this game stands on its own just fine without any changes. I was just answering the question about replay value after finding all the fish. The mechanic works just fine without any changes for just playing through the game the first time. It only gets annoying when you've completed all the goals and are just going for a high score or rare fish. Maybe they could put an expensive item in the store that would allow for a recast. This game is an easy recommend at 2.99, and one of my favorites of the year along with Joe Danger.
On the fence about this one. It doesn't jump out at me as something I need to have, but the Upcoming Games thread got me interested enough to blow a few bucks on it. Some of the negative comments on the gameplay/grinding have turned me off a bit. Decisions, decisions . . .
I understand that a true retry/recast button would be extremely helpful, but for the time being, wouldn't this work around work to cut the time between casts? Retry work around: 1) Press the Home button on your iDevice. 2) Double tap the Home button on your iDevice. 3) Tap the little "x" on the top right corner of the Ridiculous Fishing icon. 4) Open Ridiculous Fishing again and when the game starts you will be able to cast again right away. I know that this is not the most ideal solution, but it can be performed in a matter of seconds rather than waiting minutes for your line to come back up. I hope this helps you until an update is released.
High scores may have constituted replay value when I was a teen hanging out in arcades in the 80s, but nowadays, they're what's there for the super fans of a particular game, but are inconsequential for 95% of the players. A truly excellent game doesn't even need a score at all. For me, this game will have next to zero replay value, but I *like* that, heck, I LOVE that. I have gigabytes of games sitting on my device, all trying to be my infinite buddy. Frankly I'm sick to death of every damn game I download all wanting to be something I'm never going to be able to finish and/or remove. This is exacerbated by how less than a day after any game launches for $0-$3, half the posts about it are people asking and/or suggesting about all the updates the developer just has to add to it. What's wrong with dropping a few dollars, getting an excellent experience that lasts a reasonable amount of time, and then going on your way? The way mobile games are handled now, everything just fades out into a gray fugue where eventually it gets deleted because we haven't touched it in several months even though there's still eleventy billion things "to do" and developers wind up actually financially hurting themselves by catering to the "more, more, more is never enough and don't you dare charge me for adding a few measly levels dammit" crowd. If you can genuinely add something to the game experience by keeping it truly open and infinite, e.g. sandbox games like Minecraft or Junk Jack, or deep enough that gameplay rightfully goes on and on, e.g. the way Foursaken does most of their game design, then I'm all about leaving it on my device. At the same time, there at least a hundred games on my device, excellent games in theory that all would have benefited from an editor slicing out 60% of their "content" since the majority of it amounts to little more than knob polishing.
Wow... It's little games like this that touch me the most. Bravo on your mastery of creating games. The only thing that troubled me was that there wasnt more of an intro to that's somehow incredibly touching story that played out. Still, it's inclusion just creates a level of extremely unexpected depth. But, it leaves many questions indeed.
well yeah, unless it happens to be a fun arcade style high score game right? I mean some games are designed for one sort of experience and some are designed for another. For me, I haven't outgrown my enjoyment of traditional high score games at all. In fact I think they are an absolutely perfect fit for my iphone...
