I LOVE this game so far, but I've been having a bit of a problem. Everytime my line catches something, there's a moment of lag between it touching the fish and the catching session. (I'm not talking about when the line goes down a little and the music plays backwards, this is before that.) Normally I'd just be thankful tht such a quality game runs on my iTouch 4G, but this ramps up the difficulty level of piranhas so that the lag happens before I can drill thru them. Is there a fix, or am I just stuck with this? I've already done a hard reset but it didn't help.
The critical accolades this game is racking up already are also pretty insane. Absolutely merited, of course, but still nuts. Perfect scores or 9/10s across the board, from what I've seen so far. Viva Vlambeer!
I really hope it gets higher. This game represents everything I wish for from a developer. A fair price that once paid means that I can enjoy the game without any distractions. Let me reiterate, there are no IAPs whatsoever! The game is a dream to play. Every area feels like it has been tweaked to perfection, gameplay, design, music! I really hope they make the money they deserve over the endless amounts of trashy endless runner endless money grabbing freemium games that litter the App Store. Also, to anyone that has a problem with tilt controls, (I am the biggest tilt control HATER on this earth!) just try the game. I promise you there is no other way that you would want the controls. I work in london so I have an hour commute on the train cramped with other people. I can still play this game with absolute ease. The tilt is very subtle. Basically buy this game now bitchezzzz!! Awesome job devs
I'm tempted to buy this, but the idea of tilting my iPad2 to play a verticle fishing game... well you know...
Too many people are being protective over the tilt. It's long been a common complaint with iPads and it has no reflection on how good a game is. I'm finding it playable, but I do have to switch between holding the iPad and putting it down to shoot, and I'm pretty sure I'd have more fun with a touch slider mechanic. That doesn't mean the game is broken, just that options don't hurt anybody and I'm positive the developers do actually want some feedback to give them ideas for future improvements. So this is part of it.
I get where you're coming from (I don't have an iPad, but I can see how it would factor into things). The reason why I'm so gung-ho about the tilt, though, is just to try to sway people who usually don't play games with tilt on principle at all. Just pains me to see so much potential fun going out the window like that, is all. Fine-tuning the controls for iPad slider-wise for those who want it definitely isn't a bad idea at all, but it also doesn't preclude the fact that the tilt is still playable enough to warrant exemption from the "tilt sucks completely" label.
I'm with you on that. The game deserves downloading by everyone, tilt or no tilt. I do think it could be better with more options, but it's not unplayable by any means in its current state.
I am really enjoying this game and I am glad an IAP-free game is doing well and is accepted at a "premium" price. However, I think I would like RF even more if it wasn't hyped so much by our fearless editor in chief.
I agree, while the game is cool and the tilt works well, having some kind of invisible slide mechanic like ziggurat would be a nice feature to add for playing on the ipad.
Premium price? Since when are $3 premium? This should "normally" be the lowest price for apps. I'd set the normal range to $5-$9 and premium from $10-$20. But this is iOS gaming and lots of gamers are just stupid. Spending $700 on an iPad to play crappy free games instead of fantastic $3-$5 games. My rant was not pointed at you, slewis; more general speaking. Well, I skipped the games after all, mainly because of the tilt controls. Maybe considering it again if they add alternative controls.
Vovin, I agree 100%. That is why I quoted the word premium in my earlier message. As for the tilt, I generally do not like tilt controls either, but they make sense for this game and work well here. An alternate control mechanism would not be as appropriate, IMHO.
Yes, that's how I understood it. You were pointing towards the "w00t 3$!!!?!" gamer guys. Maybe you are right. In times of the regular-app-for-one-dollar, +200% might be seen as premium. The standard changes. Ok, thx about your tilt opinion. Made a mental note. Maybe I'll check it out on a friends device.
The thing is that you're not going to sway many people from that mindset regardless. You have to understand that no matter how potentially fun a game can be, a player being content with controlling that game will always factor into the "fun" equation, so that even the most seemingly fun game can feel a chore if the controls are not to the users liking. I too am somewhat of a tilt hater of sorts, though there are some few games that I found that the tilt controls are actually very well done. The problem is that for large part for us tilt haters, most games just don't reach that level of tuned tilt control, so even for a guy like me who hates tilt but is willing to give most tilt games a go, more times than not I am left unsatisfied with its implementation in a game and will abandon a game that is tilt only. Also, as a iPad only owner this is compounded for obvious reasons. While my wife has her iPhone (and her neglected iPad, hehe) and my kids have their iTouch's, I have no interest in owning or gaming on an iPhone or screen that size (old crotchety man voice)! The thing is that tilt is not necessary for most if not any game, though I would never dare say remove it from gaming, nor demand ONLY traditional control schemes. It has its audience and its places as an alternate means of control; it just doesn't happen to be for me and other "tilt haters" and forcing us to try it and love it isn't going to happen. Where I agree with the above poster is that there is nothing wrong with asking for options. There is nothing wrong or rude in asking to appease both audiences where it can obviously and apparently be done without stepping on toes or unbalancing a games design. Now I am buying this game (purchased as I typed) because I support developers who give full gaming experiences with no strings attached or catches (eg; IAP currencies, timers and other methods designed to entice and panhandle). I am hoping that those who ave made the claim are right and that the tilt controls are acceptable in this game even for a "tilt hater" like myself. Even if they are good though, it won't change my opinion of tilt or the experience with an overwhelming number of dissatisfying implementations in my experience to change my mind.
I'm so glad there are no IAP in this game. I can buy the game and actually play it without it trying to shake me down for the rest of my money! I also dislike tilt controls, but the controls seem bearable, especially since it's a fun game without IAP Adding a bit more to my reply: this game is awesome. The shooting mechanics, the in game "tweets", the variety of gadgets and fish and the art really make it shine. Did I mention there were no IAP?
Is there a day/night cycle to the game? Does it depend on what time you play the game at? Just wondering as there appears to be fish that can only be caught in the evening.
That would be spoiling, wouldn't it! Try in the evening if you want to make sure that you're right in your assumptions! We're so unbelievably humbled to see that Ridiculous Fishing just hit #10 in iPhone Apps and is climbing still. It is in no small part thanks to you all, sharing the game, discussing its strengths and your thoughts. Let's see where we can take this. Thanks so much.
I've pretty much finished the game, including getting the last secret fish in the book. I had been anticipating this game for a long time, ever since playing ninja fishing the day that came out, and I can honestly say it lived up to my high hopes and the reputation of the developers involved. This is a fabulous game. My only problem with it is the lack of recast/retry button. In later levels or when going for a rare fish, it stinks having to wait while the line goes up when you snag a fish too early. It gets really old when you are going for a specific goal and have to wait it out time after time.
