What the, you have to steer with either tilting or buttons? Virtual sticks aren't bad...

Yes, of course, that obviously has a big influence.
But based on previous such features it seems to be enjoying slightly higher download numbers than normal for this spot.
Not the highest by any means for this featured spot but pretty high which somewhat indicates that a lot of people wanted it but just wouldn't pay for it.
No real surprise in that but somewhat disappointing.

Well, not somewhat disappointing, very disappointing actually. If people would have just been willing to part with $2.99 (or whatever variation it went through), a very minimal amount for a decent game, there would have been no need for the inclusion of ads or delivery timers.

It's not meant to be an excuse.
    Its a POSSIBLE reason.

If they have no possible way of making a ROI on investment at a "premium" price point because people won't download at a "premium" price point yet have an outside possibility of making a ROI at a freemium price point due to the increase in download numbers and exposure increase (as backed up by every statistic and analytic available for the App Store and buying habits), well for anybody who knows anything about business, and game development is a business too, the choice was obvious whether you like it or not.

However, I was neither trying to say it was an excuse nor say it was the reason with my earlier post.
I was merely pointing out that it is a disappointment that people are unwilling to pay a "premium" price point for what is a decent game, something all the statistics and analytics will qualify and this game stands as just another example of that.

That 2.99 even qualifies as a premium price point is laughable.

If I was a dev that had a pay game and then turned it into freemium, I would somehow compensate the people who payed for the game. I don't know if it is possible through the App Store to do this. If the game was $3 then I would give at least $3 worth of iaps to the people who originally supported the game. This way you wouldn't piss people off as much. Heck, if the original supporters got super compensated when a game turns freemium, I think people would be much more likely to buy games when they were first released. If I payed for this game I would either avoid Namco games or would be much less likely to buy from them again.

Namco has both published Puzzle Quest 2 and Puzzle Quest 2:Freemium.

That is the responsible thing to do.

Depends on what the game is. There are arguably better (or with stronger consumer followings on iOS) racing games on iOS that are also free.

Ok, buttons are too small on iPad, anyone knows how I can resize them? I'll probably stop playing if that can't be done.
