Just downloaded the Rhapsody app this morning. Haven't had a chance to use it much but it does seem to be working properly. I was able to access my whole library while riding the train to work this morning. Unfortunately there is no ability in this version to upload tracks to the iphone hard drive so you must have an internet connection to listen.

App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.

Thanks for posting the info Prab. I have been using the app over a wi-fi network here at work and it has been performing flawlessly. Sound quality is pretty good considering I read the stream is 64kbps. I wish there was a user guide somewhere though. I am trying to add songs to the end of a queue and having some trouble. Seems like swiping a song sometimes gives you a menu to do just that and sometimes not. Guess I should amend my flawless claim.

Another problem seems to be if I turn the iphone screen off the song stops playing. I can't believe they would do that on purpose. The app will chew up battery power if that is the case.

Well they can't keep the app running after the screen is off only coz of apple restriction. So there won't be any solution to this problem.

Maybe itll be part of the API at some point. The Nike+ app is running even when the screen is off. Apple must be using some unreleased APIs.

Total scam that they don't allow rhapsody unlimited subscriptions to work with this. The whole R-To-Go is feature is for transferring and storing songs on non-internet connected mp3 players like a sansa. Unlimited is for streaming to any device... I have about six different devices that all stream Rhapsody. But all of a sudden the iPhone is different? B.S. - looking for another service, this bites completely. I just called Rhapsody and asked if I could upgrade for $2mo more and they said no, $70/yr more for to-go since I have a good rate on unlimited. Goodbye Rhapsody, nice job coming out with a new thing that should have made customers happier and instead you're going to lose customers.

I hear you on the unlimited. I have had the Rhapsody to Go and Sansa combo for some time now and have been extremely happy with it. Combined with a slim device squeezebox (controlled by the iPeng app which is truly fantastic) it provides all my music both on the go and at home. This app should be viewed as a first step in my opinion. To make it truly worthwhile they need to get Apple to allow them to cache songs on the iphone making the internet connection unnecessary. Then my Sansa goes the way of the dinosaurs.

Yes they can: WunderRadio and Pandora do it without a hitch.

Spotify already allows you to cache songs (even whole playlists), so I doubt that the limitation is imposed by Apple.

I kind of got the impression from the RealNetworks press release regarding the app they were moving in baby steps to get the app approved in the first place. Maybe the Spotify approval will get them moving quickly to implement the cache feature. They have already stated it is in the works.

You may be right about baby steps, but they now have precedent in their favor...

Agreed. To my mind the monthly charge is a steal if you have full access to the music where ever you go. Streaming at 64 kbps is a little iffy sound quality wise.

So assuming there'll soon be a release that cache's songs...

What will then be the best service? Spotify or Rhapsody?

Anyone know how their libraries stack up vs one another?

    Cheers,

    Jamie,.

I have only used Rhapsody so cannot compare the two but will say Rhapsody's library is very impressive. However after using the app for a day I am not impressed with it's ability to stream over the internet with weaker connections. My experience using the Edge network has not been very good. The app has also cut out on me numerous times and exhibited some strange behavior. For example yesterday I said when I would turn the screen off the music would stop playing. That no longer seems to be the case. Not sure what changed. I also had the app say it lost my connection yet continued to play 7 or 8 songs with no functionality other than being able to listen to the music.

Hopefully this is the first step and will continue to be improved on. I think Rhapsody could expand its customer base immensely if they get it right. For basically the cost of a CD a month you have access to an incredible amount of music.

Just received an e-mail from Rhapsody that they will be submitting an update to the app that allows offline listening. No definitive timeline in the e-mail-- they only state "very soon".
