App info is currently processing and/or the app is not yet fully available for sale on the US App Store.

I hope you have to press play and record at the same time to record for that true retro experience :)

Retro Recorder - more than just a stylized app

    Howdy all,

I am the Mc in McDSP, so I am completely biased about this product. However I will stick to the facts...!

Retro Recorder - yep, it looks like a tape machine. But Retro Recorder has some pretty darn advanced signal processing algorithms inside - namely Audio Level eXtension (ALX).

Check out the ALX button - it is the equivalent of audio zoom. No its not some lame volume control!! ALX can boost signal levels over 32 times (about 30 dB) without causing audible distortion (like a volume control could). This feature comes in mighty handy for that important lecture, dictation, voice memo, or your kids first words. We use it for interview recordings at McDSP - it works great!

ALX is part of McDSP's patent pending algorithm code base. This technology is used in professional music and post production every day, and is also being licensed by companies around the world.

So check out Retro Recorder and the included ALX processing. At 99 cents it is quite a deal!

Colin, I read the description and I appreciate it does a whole lot more than just record sound. It's just that "press play and record" popped into my head and I couldn't resist.

Seriously though, maybe you should reskin it and make another app called undistortioniser or something where the web link in the descriptions takes the user to a page with three play buttons, one 'the original quiet recording', the next 'with the volume cranked up' and the third 'with ALX audio-zoom'. Or even better, link to a youtube video making the same point.

The problem is, most people will see your app and think it's a simple voice recorder with a picture of an old cassette player for a visual joke, even if they are someone who could really make use of it's cool features.

Retro Recorder - look and feel

    Howdy GlennX,

indeed, if we had called our audio recorder app 'Audio Genius' or 'Audio Zoom-In' we might have had a real hit on our hands. We did try to make that ALX button pretty darn big though!

Yes, more youtube stuff and audio examples would help. Here is what we've done so far on youtube:

...let me know what you think!

I just re-read my post and it's kind of condescending. Sorry about that but I'm waiting for my first app to be aproved and I'm kind of focused on getting it noticed, app store descriptions etc.

To be honest I didn't know what ALX was but I guess those that do will find your app very easily in iTunes, the reviews suggest that people who know what it is love your app.
