I hate the way non-Retina Display games look, so I've being working on a little tweak to force OpenGL games to be rendered at the native 960x640 resolution of the iPhone 4. So yay, this is my first iPhone release. I have created a repository at http://cydia.myrepospace.com/sticktron/. Add the repo to your source list in Cydia, and you will be able to download Retinasizer. Only games that have been tested and verified will be officially supported. Feel free to add your own bundle ids to the Retinasize.plist file if you want to help test. Update: New Release Imminent: iPad Support Been waiting for iPad to hit 4.x! Get ready to ditch 2x mode and play your games in Retina res! Also new is a choice of scaling filter for games that can't be Retinasized. Get rid of the blurry linear filter, and let the crisp pixels shine. Scaling modes apply to ALL Apps, so there is total coverage now. Update: Retinasizer 1.0.2 is live! Supported games: - Sonic 4 (SEGA) - PES 2010 (Konami) - Zombie Infection (Gameloft) - ACE Combat (Namco) - Tiger Woods Golf (EA) - Sim City Deluxe (EA) - Street Fighter 4 (Capcom) - Touch Pets: Cats (ngmoco) - F.A.S.T. (SGN) + more Eventually I will create a preference panel in Settings to allow you to choose which games to "Retinasize" yourself. Hope you enjoy!
Zombie Infection looks *really* nice with Retina graphics, although it takes a punch in the performance department in some areas. Perhaps that's why Gameloft hasn't released an HD version yet.
It's now working for Touch Pets Cats. F.A.S.T. also works, but the HUD is shrunken. I'll post some new files for download shortly.
can i have the sims ambitions, and red alert version of this? i play those alot hope those files wont take long anymore that you are uploading ^^ EDIT: is it possible to just edit the .plist file and add more games? Then rename the plistfile and give desame name to the other file?
Yes, you can add more by their bundle id (found in Info.plist)--make sure the ids are comma separated. It's most likely not going to work on many games, if any... it's an early build.
alright thanks! trying 7 games in total now! hoep you keep developing this! edit: Like this? with that line above, only zombieinfection worked... EDIT2: tried removing the " characters but also only zombie infection worked(ofcource not removed on begin and end of line) How did you get red alert to work? :O
I'll post a newer build. However I'm stuck at a point where most games retinasize, but their 2d GUIs don't. I'll keep working on it, hopefully I'll find a way.
Big breakthrough. I suspect many more games will work now. PES 2010 works perfectly! Also COD: Zombies works in the game, but the initial menus are scrambled. Hopefully I can sort that out tonight. I'm going to set up a proper release on a cydia repo, so I can push updates as I add new games.
Could you try with Dexter: The Game and Resident Evil 4? That would be great. You should try to create a plug-in or app that's in the settings menu that lets you select games to Retinasize, which includes special optimizations for games that have them and a universal edit to attempt to Retinasize any game.
Wow! I'm way excited for COD:zombies. Check out need for speed if you get the chance. Thanks for sharing with us, this is way cool.
Sounds great. By the way, is there anything in the file on the first page that is Zombie Infection-specific or could it be tried with a chance of working with other games? I'll try a few.
there is nothing game-specific in Retinasizer, so you can add whatever game id's you want in the /Library/MobileSubstrate/DynamicLibraries/Retinasizer.plist file. Let me know if you find any other working games, and I'll add them to the list.
Congratulations on the release! Great job finally bringing a hack to make games display at 960x640. This is a pretty big deal for fourth-generation iDevice owners. Retinasizer looks like it'll be a big improvement for games that haven't been updated yet or never will be. Any chance this could work on the iPad, too? Retinasizer would be a huge improvement on that as well. Would you recommend testing it on the iPad to find out if it works? I hope this makes the front page. It's bound to show up on more than a few blogs.
