It seems in the gaming industry that multiplayer gaming is taking over completely. But I for one am against this. Many developers are straying away from a quality single player experience and it I'd really uncool. Don't get me wrong I love multiplayer gaming and am genuinely excited for borderlands and halo 4 and even black ops 2 somewhat, but I'd much rather play GTA 4, Red Dead and the such over games like those before mentioned. And it sucks to see developers giving in to something that is unnecessary, for example the new splinter cells and dead space 3. What the hell? Does it really need coop? Do I mind it, no, not at all, it adds longevity and that's great but it always diminishes the single player experience, especially because the time taken to develop is partially spent on both sides. One last problem I have with this is the respect of single player oriented typed players from that of multiplayer oriented players. Just today I had just started playing dead island, and some douche comes in my game, a level 60(which is highest) and continues to kill every thing in sight and do all the quests for me. Again, I don't mind playing with others but i want to play the game through first and then afterward go and blow sh*t up. This has occurred in my playthrough of the original borderlands and games of that sort. Not many developers get coop down right and it sucks for people who just want to enjoy themself that first time- ALONE. And I also hear garbage from those kids or people who say campaign is garbage and made for nothing and multiplayer is all that and there's no reason to ever play by yourself(typically cod players). Im sure most of you can relate and but I maintain respect for multiplayer players so why can't I be respected as a single player-player ya know?
I love a good single player game. I'm currently going solo through SC Chaos Theory and enjoying it greatly. I play minecraft alone. The dead space games were amazing single player experiences. Of course I respect you as a single player gamer. To a certain extent, I am too. Sure, I love mc3 and nova 3 multiplayer and enjoy the co-op for dungeon defenders, but I also appreciate a well thought out story mode. I agree that developers are alienating single player gamers, wtf is with co-op in dead space 3??? This isn't a TPS, it's a survival horror game meant for one player to stumble through alone and terrified. Multiplayer simply doesn't belong in that context, same with the co-op they added to splinter cell. Really?? Co-op for a super stealthy spy game? Sorry, don't need or want it. And don't get me started on how SC is being ruined by becoming more action oriented... So yes, I believe I am one of your kind and, if I'm not, I respect your position.
Yes, I believe we are in the same boat, i agreed with everything you said, I of course love multiplayer of all types of games but I think that what developers are doing these days aren't right to many gamers who want new but want the old too and even more. I think rockstar is the golden example here. Max payne 3 and Red dead had two of the greatest campaigns of these past few years with quality and story and design to the max, that's what I want to see but they also each have coop and online, both being of tremendous quality and thought as well and I'm glad to be a rockstar fanboy. Bethesda and valve do superb jobs as well.
Im also someone who plays games for the singleplayer experience. Unfortunatly sp isnt what it used to be. Finding a game with a sp thats longer then 8 hours is pretty hard. I do like some coop games for instande also dead island and used to play gears of war back in the day when i still had my xbox. And the only multiplayer game i play is gran turismo 5. Also games are more action orientated instead of having a good story, which is a shame. But hey action sells, look at modern warfare, call of duty started out as a single player game experience with a multiplayer mode as an extra. Mw3 is the other way around. Almost seems lik the devs thought: just throw in some new weapons and levels, raise the level cap and watch the money roll in. I still play a lot of those old point and click games, because to me a good story is just as or even more important than graphics. Some goods sp games i played recently are: uncharted 3, catherine and max payne. Btw you can turn the option of random people joining you in dead island off at the options menu.
Yes sp is very important compared to everything else I don't agree with developers nowadays, and I know you can turn off it was a friends friend who asked and maybe I should have said no.
