Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City delivers a true third person team based shooter experience set within the dark and sinister Resident Evil universe and a reinterpretation of the events depicted in Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3. Zombies and Bio-Organic Weapons (B.O.W’s) add to the mix as players not only compete against an opposing squad but also tackle this third unpredictable element, creating a brand new style of gameplay and breaking the conventions of traditional team based shooters. Expect the return of original Resident Evil enemies, iconic landmarks such as the Raccoon City Police Department and fan favourite characters, including Leon S. Kennedy, who as a rookie police officer in Raccoon City is on your hit list to eliminate. Players will experience a retelling of classic moments from past titles Resident Evil 2 and Resident Evil 3 and watch the events unfolding from the menacing perspective of the Umbrella Security Service, giving fans the chance to rewrite the history of the Raccoon City outbreak. ...and for those who missed the older news: both Resident Evil 4 and Resident Evil: Code Veronica X are receiving graphical overhauls and are due to hit PSN and Xbox Live Arcade later this year. All of this combined with Resident Evil: The Mercenaries 3D and Resident Evil Revelations makes for one exciting zombie-poppin' lineup.
*points at self* THIS MAN HAS BEEN OVER GASPED! Seriously though, the first post made me want to shit myself. And now reading the bolded, I just came like 50 times. I need new pants.
how many times will seeing the hd pics make you come? http://www.gamereactor.dk/nyheder/83249/Sammenlign+Resident+Evil+HD/ remember to click the pics And the "forstør billede" part.
I will buy this game, play it to completion, then find an internet message board to post "Gah, I remember when Resident Evil games were about survival horror instead of this weird clunky action crap."
I'll do the exact same. The squad mechanic does make it sound slower-paced though, and all the references to the first few games kinda hint at it being more focused on horror. Fingers crossed.
That's what they said about Resident Evil 3! And 4! Fool me once, shame on you... Fool me twice, shame on me. I don't know what happens when you get fooled thrice but I'm willing to find out.
The best system to play RE4 on is still the Wii unless they're planning on adding PS Move support to the HD version in which case I'd seriously consider getting it. The game felt like a light gun shooter with free movement rather then a kludgy third person shooter on the Wii and was the last entry into the series I enjoyed. It's unfortunate the two actual attempts at making a RE light gun game on the Wii were no where near as fun. On the subject of Capcom remakes where the hell is Mega Man Universe?
rofl, and I will do the same as well. No matter what, I am excited to get ahold of this. And Code Veronica HD screams for me playing in the dark again.
I agree that the Wii version was the best, but only because it had the option to use the Gamecube controller, which I did. Turning it into a light gun game seemed rather childish in that the difficulty all but disappeared. The game played so well with the laser sight, it was a new mechanic that hadn't been used much before (or since) but turned out to be surprisingly effective. For that reason I'm thinking the PSN/XBLA version may well turn out to be definitive. Motion controls are still hit and miss and RE just doesn't fit the light gun genre too well.
Yes, having controls that actually work well rather then forcing you to hold down a button and slowly pan around around using the analog stick does make the game easier, I don't know about "childish". I guess it all comes down to preference but to me the motion controls are what made that game fun mostly because I love light gun games. These days the only games I really play on the Wii are Duck Hunt & Hogan's Alley through an emulator, House of the Dead 2&3 Returns, Overkill and the Gunblade NY collection.
By "work well" you mean eliminate the need for any skill? The control setup was intentional, it meant you had to actually stop and aim rather than sprint about unrealistically popping heads off. It worked perfectly well except to those who don't understand that it's not an arcade game, it's about slow and sure paced combat hinging on patience and accuracy. The first few RE games were similar in their approach and this was the natural evolution. Turning it into a light gun game does nothing more than adapt it for the Wii audience who, funnily enough, happen to consist of a load of children. I've no qualms about how well it worked and sure, give us more options, but it was quite a deliberate dumbing down.
Here's a scan from the playstation magazine: The rest of the scans can be found here: http://fr.ultimate-re.com/index.php?subaction=showfull&id=1301324163&archive=&start_from=&ucat=&
To each their own I guess, I don't really care for the whole "aiming mode" deal modern third person shooters keep insisting on using. The Wii controls were the only thing that actually got me to play RE4 for any significant amount of time because they made the game enjoyable rather then a grudging haul through bland brown landscapes with sloppy aiming. It's not like the game's horror themes are particularly strong regardless of how you choose to play it. One person's "dumbing down" is another's element that makes the game enjoyable on any level at all. IDK, I may be alone on this since I hated GTA4 for the same reason so it's not really my thing. As for the Wii being largely targeted for children, I don't see what that has to do with anything. It's not like they lowered the rating and the system has it's fair share of mature rated (PEGI 15? That's how the rating system works over there right?) titles.
It's the "sloppy aiming" accusation that gets me because it's completely untrue. You move the stick and that's exactly where the laser goes, how could it possibly be any different? If you can't do it maybe you've just got sloppy thumbs.
Awesome, added it to the first post. Thanks The visual style is very promising so far, looks exactly like RE2.
