I wish you could race against computer opponents BUT from the video it still looks a great game, is cheap and the filesize isnt bad (and a choice of controls, not just tilt !). I'll be picking this up later. Hope this succeeds where others haven't done so well. syntheticvoid Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2010 14,504 124 63 Musician & factory worker. a[V-O-I-D] http://apparentsymmetry.bandcamp.com #7 syntheticvoid, Jan 2, 2013 Woohoo!! Been excited about this since it was brought up in the Flashout thread... Super psyched! I hope the controls are better than Flashout 3D! awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #9 awp69, Jan 2, 2013 So looking at the description, am I to assume there are no weapons/power-ups? Seems like every attempt at a Wipeout style game fails at either the combat aspect or the racing/controls aspect. Protoxide came close but the sense of speed was missing. Wish Sony could do a port but obviously not going to happen as they try to make their Vita prosper. themostunclean Well-Known Member Jun 13, 2012 217 0 0 #10 themostunclean, Jan 2, 2013 Looks like no weapons and no competition either. I didn't see a single other vehicle on the tracks. The gate system could make it interesting but looks pretty bare-bones at this point. At .99¢ I might as well give it a shot, hopefully it's not completely bogged down by IAP. september Well-Known Member Sep 14, 2012 2,673 0 0 #11 september, Jan 2, 2013 Didn't see any IAP, tapping on locked ships and tracks didn't prompt you for cash. There's no combat but in all honesty I didn't feel I missed it, not all game modes in Wipeout were weapon based and this fits the bill. Gate system is simple but somewhat addicting trying to get faster and faster. Ships, tracks and little effects are nice, everything feels weighted. Good fun and nicely done. bigrand1 Well-Known Member Apr 23, 2010 4,968 7 38 Geriatric Party Animal California, USA #12 bigrand1, Jan 2, 2013 The graphics don't do anything to impress me here, the lack of computer opponents sucks, and no weapons/nobody to shoot kicks this to the curb right away for me. Even if it controls well at that point probably isn't gonna garner any interest from me at all. Next..... Still no real Wipeout clone that gets it right. awp69 Well-Known Member Oct 30, 2009 8,249 0 36 Greenville, SC #13 awp69, Jan 2, 2013 I love the combat modes in Wipeout games but can live with a fast and furious futuristic racer. Aside from the combat, though, the lack of any real racing against opponents may hold me back. It's showing it's age, but Protoxide still probably is the best you can do on the iOS in this genre. Maybe the promised additional modes will at least include other racers on the track. september Well-Known Member Sep 14, 2012 2,673 0 0 #14 september, Jan 2, 2013 I enjoyed some of the non combat, no competitor modes in Wipeout on PS3 so doesn't feel like I'm missing anything here. People are going to complain because an apple isn't an orange, but what can you do. So this is just pure time trial stuff here? Weak. Doctorossi Member Aug 2, 2011 18 0 0 #16 Doctorossi, Jan 2, 2013 Combat is what made me finally give up on the Wipeout series and move on to something else, so my dream "futuristic" racer on iOS is combat-free, like this one. I do fear a deep sense of loneliness out there on the barren track, though... we'll see. But a game solely based on checkpoint/time trial modes is a bit too thin IMO - not even comparing it to Wipeout. I actually dislike the time trial type races in NFS:MW and Asphalt 7, but I played them. Just not sure a game solely based on this can hold up. I'll be anxious to hear impressions though. And with the small file size and price tag, I still might bite. september Well-Known Member Sep 14, 2012 2,673 0 0 #19 september, Jan 2, 2013 On the second track there is minimal traffic, I don't know if it ramps up at later stages or just a particular track feature. I didn't find myself getting bored however, although I don't know if I'd repeat tracks once I'd 3 starred them. september Well-Known Member Sep 14, 2012 2,673 0 0 #20 september, Jan 2, 2013 You should probably just play it, hypothetical debates based on expectations from other games usually miss the point.
