I didn't do anything with the season pass or restore purchases. I just clicked purchase episode 2 and it said I can download it for free. And that was it.
The season pass was strangely the only option I had, and when I clicked on it said it would download the content for it. Maybe I missed something? But the whole thing does seem like a mess, as others have said.
Here's the official steps I received from Camoflaj: Instructions to Download EP2 1. Make sure to update to Version 2.1 of République via the App Store 2. Launch République 3. If the game does not recognize that you have purchased a Season Pass, go into the options menu of République (gear screen) and hit Restore Purchases. Type in your password. There will be no feedback once you complete this. 4. From the main menu of République, going into the Play menu. Once you get to the Episode Menu, tap on the down arrows on Episode 2. 5. You should be offered to download Free Episode 2 for free. 6. Let the download complete. 7. When unpacking is complete, answer the phone call that kicks off with Episode 2. 8. If the game hangs for more than 1 minute on this screen before starting the game; delete Episode 2 by hitting the x button on Episode 2 screen and re-download Episode 2. It should no longer hang.
If the game is crashing, try deleting the episode with the X at the top-right corner of the Episode 2 panel and download it again. It should work fine after that.

I updated it a little bit because I forgot to put in some details and just to cover all the bases info wise. If its available in a persons country, the first link to the "report a problem" Apple host site is without doubt the quickest and easiest method, but sometimes it can fail to verify a previous receipt correctly and you might need the other links on those rare occasions. Oh, and it does apply to any purchase made in iTunes or the App Store. I suppose that's pretty obvious but just in case.
Anyone else getting a network error when they try to update to new version? I can delete it and re download the original from the iTunes Store but when I try to update it I get a network error every time. Have to exit iTunes and reload it to clear the downloading symbol. On a Mac with latest Mavericks.

This didn't work for me. I tried deleting the app and that didn't fix the issue. I want to play the game that I paid for months ago! Is there some way around this broken puzzle?
So, I finished the story relatively quickly and I'm now playing in game+ mode to explore a bit more. In the first episode, wasn't there a way of seeing how many collectibles you have found and how many are still to be collected? (game cartridges, audio tapes, and books) How did that work again? Edit: Ah, I found the stat screen under Data, and there is still a lot of stuff to discover.
Also for me,after update to V.2.1,when I open the app,I go under setting and restore purchase,it recognized that I've previously buy the season pass cause when I click on making of,from 0.89 become free all the 3,but going on the basket,I don't have Ep 2 download tab, there 5 tabs: season pass,coming soon"Manifesto",soundtracks,making of,merchandising..no option for Ep 2..
You don't go to the basket, go to play (the first panel) then continue with your game and episode 2 is displayed there.
I got my refund, no problem. I just clicked "Report a Problem" on my iTunes receipt and it has all the details of the purchase already set up. I filled out the little form, someone from Apple emailed me within 20 minutes, I told them the problem, and they gave me a refund.
I'm in the same position as yours (are you as jailbroken as I am ?) paid months ago for season pass at full price, and now can't play because of that stupid recorder that crash the whole game. unbelievable. after feeling robbed when the season pass got that 0.89 promotion, now this non-sense. I don't even know anymore where's the issue; my season pass seems part recognised, part won't-be-installed-because-won't-download. I tried and succedded once, and when yesterday I finally struggled enough and got the episode to install, the game crashes at that ***** recorder, as it did before the 2.1 update ! what bugs were you talking about camouflaj !? not the most important one, obviously !
The update. It won't restore purchases. I've got the season pass but it doesn't offer me to sign in when I click on restore??
That's the great people in the support centre in the European HQ (you're UK, so that's the centre you would have got) for ya, always efficient and reliable. Be sure and give a high rating in the support follow up, it'll help someone out a lot . Don't go in to the shopping trolley area after you have clicked "restore purchases" and entered password. Just go back to the play tab. Episode 2 is in there in the middle. It should change from "purchase" to a download icon once you've restored purchases. Just click on it and it'll ask if you want to download free episode 2 for free. Doing it this way will also save you space because it won't do wold the making off which I found very handy. I'm sure someone gave those details earlier but I've deleted and reinstalled twice in two devices just to be sure its consistent and it's worked every time for me. First time I checked it, the episode tab didn't change from purchase but the next two tests, it did. On the first go I tapped "purchase" under episode two in the play tab and the pop up asked if I'd like to purchase free episode 2 for free so it did recognise the purchase history of season pass without having to go to the shopping cart section and reinstalling the season pass through there. Just use the restore purchase under the gear icon and then the episode 2 tab under the play icon on the main screen. It has worked three times in a row on two devices for me. Its worth noting on the first go, I was after doing a delete and reinstall anyway so maybe that's the key for you also. I dunno for sure but a clean install does seem to sort it out. Not for everybody it seems, but definitely has worked for me with each test. One thing is while downloading episode 2, which does take a bit of time depending on your connection, don't let the device go to sleep as it'll interrupt the download and you'll have to start over.
