Long story short, a friend of mine stepped on my iPhone. The screen didn't crack, but the LCD beneath the glass is slightly messed up (there is a gray line in the lower left corner of the screen). I've Googled around for a bit about replacing the LCD on an iPhone and it seems like it's a fairly quick and easy DIY fix. I've found several services where I can mail my iPhone in and have them fix it for me, but this runs around $175 and I would have to be without a phone for at least 3 days. Sending the phone into Apple isn't an option because I'm jailbroken and I really don't want to take the time to restore and then re-jailbreak once I get the phone back. Has anyone ever tried doing this themselves? Is replacing the LCD as easy as it looks, or should I just send it in to let the professionals take care of it?
^ I believe that is a she not a dude... And I have no experience myself, but I have heard that replacing it yourself is very, very hard. So, I would certainly suggest letting a professional ideally Apple play with the insides of your phone, instead of you.
Sorry to hear about you're Iphone. Unfortunatly you tend to pay through the nose fo things like this. However i would go to the apple store and ask them if they will repair it first. Shut up mate, You're boring.
Alright, I decided to just try and do this myself, I just ordered an OEM LCD replacement. Worst case scenario, I screw it up and send it in for someone else to fix. I'll let you guys know how it works out.
I dont think you'll have much trouble, i think its an easy process. Just be slow, gentle, and throrough. If you can use a small screw driver you can replace your display. Get some tiny screw drivers and take a look at more than just a couple of tutorials on youtube cause the procedure takes less than ten minutes which is just as long as a youtube vid will be. Some people say you need a heat source for the glue but it depends on how long or how much damage/wear the device has. Good luck hope it goes well!!
