Hi folks, Can anyone recommend a good, robust and fast RDP client for connectivity between my MacBook and iPad2? All I want to be able to do is a combination of have my iPad2 as a secondary monitor and be able to watch videos (with sound) rather than using my MacBook. Ideally I'd also like to be able to jump onto my iPad2 and control my MacBook. It will all be used locally over WiFi. I've seen a handful of solutions, AirDisplay seems a great one, but that doesn't offer sound over wifi. LogMeIn Ignition doesn't get a good review. And the only other one that's looking good is SplashTop Remote Desktop but that's got mixed reviews (mostly good) but a few newer comments are saying it's too slow. Any thoughts?
At home I use SplashTop Remote. I never really splurged for any of the premier RDP clients (I would have if they allowed my iPhone to do so on the business WiFi, but that's currently blocked) so I started using RDP Lite (free) and when the need arises, that's what I still use. Quite functional for free.
I don't think any of them are fast enough to really enjoy video I've got two that do reasonably ok (jumigamer and splashtop) but for watching video on your computer I'd definitely recommend forgetting the remote desktops and using air video. If you already have your videos in mp4 formats and in itunes then you don't really need air video just turn on home sharing in itunes and you should be able to see/play your library on the ipad.
I really like Splashtop. It did video REALLY well and fast at one point. I was amazed. I only did a quick Hulu test when I first got it many months ago, but it was smooth and quick. Sound too. It was pretty incredible to see. I've wanted to load up some old PC games (Star Wars Rebellion, Icewind Dale, etc.) and play them using Splashtop, but at the time I tried this, my wi-fi in the house would barely reach to my bedroom, which is where I want to play all of this. But I mainly use Splashtop to show people at work some new feature or something I am working on. I am a software developer and with Splashtop, I can walk to someone's office and show them something new and get feedback. I've also used it in a meeting when we were were talking about something. I was able to use Splashtop to show everyone how a dialog currently works.
Same boat, so glad to see someone in the same profession as myself can provide actual user-feedback from this. Thanks for the feedback everyone, really very much appreciated.
