cool, i couldnt find anything about older devices just that if you did like 8 people multiplayer a newer better device should host
So my Top 3 wishes for X-Mas: Fast approval of Red Conquest Level Editor for Red Conquest Online play for Red Conquest i hope at least the first wish will come true ;D
The storyline looks interesting, with the scenes of you (I think) and the red army "friends". Darn it; why couldn't it have been released by now .
95% of the code is mine, and that's all the game specific stuff. 5% is this super important network data code that Victor (my artist (also a programmer)) came up with. I couldn't have implemented multiplayer as quickly as I did without Victor. so yeah, it's all ours. We spent about 7 months on the project, and brought Henry (the music and sound guy) in for the last two months, and he also did some amazing work. and what can I say, polish is what I do best! I think there are still some rough edges, but all in all it's a solid product.
I cam confirm that. We'd need to update the networking UI, and maybe add a chat feature or something, but a lot of the code is already there for online play. Mainly, we're taking the wait-and-see approach because we'd want a dedicated server as a game directory listing, and that's a monthly cost well above regular web hosting. so yeah, if the community wants it bad enough, and speaks loudly with their wallets, it'll go in there.
This is the first game I've tried to tell a story in, I hope you guys like it. Victor came up with the cutscenes, they're all supposed to be dreamlike. There's also dialogue scenes in the game, those are a bit more explicit.
Yes, the first episode is coming out in this release. There will be four episodes when it's done, and they'll all be released as free updates. Episode 1 has 7 levels, one of which is an advanced tutorial (but still fleshes out the universe). There are also 16 challenge levels, spread over 4 different game modes. The multiplayer maps have 3 game modes, and 15 maps all of different sizes -some are for 1 on 1, others are better for 8 people. Even the 8 person maps are good for 1 on 1 though - the games just take a little longer.
I test mostly on my original iPhone 3g. I can tell you that it is a good idea for a 3gs to host an 8 player game, but that I haven't seen terrible lag myself. What affects it the most is actually the AI, if you put too many AI players in, they cause a lot of network bandwidth to be used. Processing those messages isn't a free operation! So yeah, I'm looking into that right now. But I can tell you that your old devices will work well in the game.
I havent been following this thread for a while but now I read through the recent pages and videos. Wow I must say the game is shaping up to be insanely good. The videos were spectacular, the graphics style is really well done. And multiplayer a well? 15 maps? thats unbelievable. I cannot wait or this to come out, good job john.
I can't wait at all. This will be an insta-buy for me as soon as it comes out. That is a big status for me, with only a few other games gaining that position.
It's kind of sad that there's so much other crap out there. There's no way around it though, with a popular open marketplace... I'm just doing my part.
