I should add, no game has ever caused me to drop my phone more often than Blue Defence. Especially when I'm trying to load both kids into the car, in the snow, with gloves on, while simultaneously fending off Red invaders. I can't wait to be on the other side.
Technically, you can play as Blue or Red in Red Conquest! There's multiplayer, so obviously you can load up Blue there. Also, there are several challenge maps where you have to play as Blue. The focus is still, of course, on Red though.
Four of the sixteen challenge levels are like regular RTS levels, but you cannot choose where to start. The challenge comes in after the first level when the odds are stacked against you! In multiplayer, you can have up to 8 players, and yes - as many as you want can be AI players! The AI is not terribly good in all levels, but I'm working on that. The AI is a little better at the "nomadic" multiplayer mode than the "conquest" multiplayer mode. As the developer, I can usually take on 4 or 5 AIs and win in a skirmish. Some people have played it and say that 1 on 1 AI skirmish is hard for them - I guess it all depends how good you are with managing your army!
OMG!!! so there ARE skirmish maps and you can have as many as 8 AI!!!! I'm gonna buy this and try to get you 2 more sales through friends (not a lot of friends have an iDevice :\ ) i absolutely cant wait for this...the waiting is killing me...
I didn't notice it much on the sample video but - are there buildings or do some ships work as buildings i.e. they make new units? Also, gathering resources is present in game?
If you watch the video again, you'll see a foundry ship which makes other ships, it also attacks. (actually not sure if the foundry made the ships, gameplay was fast) and yes, there's also a gatherer. You'll see it in the walktrhough. Sometimes when ships or a planet is destroyed you can pick up resources from the debris but you ahve to do it fast since it disappears after a while
There are no stationary structures, but your ships are solid objects - so to build a defensive wall, you might want a few carriers lined up in front of your harvesters. Strategy regarding constant unit movement and unit-wall-building has been really interesting to see in multiplayer for me. As for building, some ships build other ships, and almost every ship has some offensive capability. Red Base builds: Foundry, Carrier, Harvester, Cruiser, and fighter escorts Red Foundry builds: Carrier, Battleship, Harvester, Cruiser and fighter escorts Red Carrier builds: fighter escorts Red has a very simple build system. The only ship you can't build until you have a foundry is the battleship, which is a very powerful attack unit, but is lighter that most units, so it is not as good for building your moving walls with (unless you have a LOT of them, which is what I like to do!). Blue has a more complicated build system: Blue Base -> same as red base Blue Foundry -> Carrier, Destroyer, Harvester, Maintenance Vehicle, fighter escorts Blue Carrier -> Cruiser, Monitor, Scout, fighter escorts So the same type of ships can build things - but the ships they can build are different, and more differentiated. Blue Maintenance Vehicle (MV for short): This handy ship heals blue units! It's always great to bring one along with an attack party, but you need good micromanagement skills, or it'll be the first ship killed. Red units naturally heal themselves over time, but not as fast as the MV can heal blue units. The MV can only heal one ship at a time, and that is the closest ship that has damage. Blue Monitor: This ship has very low defenses and almost no HP, but has a powerful long range gun. Rather, it IS a long range gun. It has very weak engines, and no short range normal guns... but the long range cannon can be seen even when you're zoomed out all the way! A few of these in a pack can be devastating, and can govern the flow of battle - but they need to be well-protected as well. A few seconds against a red battleship and these cannons are toast! Blue Scout: the red and blue cruiser are fast, but this ship is even faster! It also has a very high visibility range. It has very low HP, so keep your eye on it - if it's spotted, you can bet the enemy will destroy it as quickly as they can.
hi should I wait for this guys and I'm a big fan of Blue Attack and defense so anyone recommend this to me? Also awesome game.
No, DON"T wait for it. Get it as soon as it comes out. This is a RTS game, if you're a fan of the genre get this game. If not, then it might be a good time to get into it. Check out the videos and decide for yourself. Note the amount of control of the units. It is incredible!! I think there are quite a few people that are getting this the second it comes out. I've never played blue attack and defense but I am very eagerly looking forward to this game.
John, all of this sounds wonderful. I hope making iPhone games gets you a nice living, I still have Blue Attack and Blue Defense after all these months, simply because they are great and the visual style is excellent. I always disliked 3D polygons esp. when you can't render them properly (PS1 graphics on iPhone? yay...), so games like yours are always a great alternative. Seems like you put a lot of thought into this game, buying this the moment it hits the App Store.
http://appshopper.com/games/baseball-slugger-home-run-race-3d seems like a decent price strategy. In a nutshell $3 for first month $1 for 2nd month $5 for 3rd month Here a there sprinkle in $1 price drops. Although I have to say that homerun game I can never recommend since I don't think it's worth $5 no way.
Great to hear it's in review! Can't wait to see it on the store. Edit: Lots of apps are being approved right now; this could be it!
Looks like it wasn't approved the same day it went into review . Does anybody know how long most apps stay in review?
