You didn't answer my question yet xD Will there be even more colors in the future or will you stay with red blue and green?
we have the red creatures, the human blue, the alien? green, so surly we need a Artificial Intelligence faction (white?) But anyway, id like to see more units for blue and red first. First of, turrets! I know that the first you think of when you hear turrets in red conquest is "LAME!" but it would be super cool if you where able to produce cheep, turrets with low upceap from harvesters!! this would completely change how you defend, and attack harvesters and resource's. 2: hero's for every faction in online play! 3: devastating super weapons for each faction. Red, a egg or something that would burst and a LOT of red little creatures would emerge, and for a limited time attack the enemy's ships (the creatures would preferable be the round things that you see in the red foundry's and carriers belly. they are also the red harvesters eyes) Blue should have some kind of Nova bomb, (aka planet cracker) 4: upgrade's for the units. 5: the cloak unit that some people have mentioned And it would be so f-ing cool with a planet for the lone man on the map "one vs many"
I really like the turret idea. Sounds awesome. John, tonight I noticed the servers were acting up again. It was with around six players on the map man in the middle. The game would just "freeze." All the units were still firing and the animations worked, but you couldn't move, create, or surrender. It only happened twice, and I haven't tried again (going back on after posting) but I thought you should know. :3
I though red was aliens and green was artificial intelligience. Those were fun games earlier leopard. Anyways, maybe we should have space pirates (purple).
Two quick beginner questions: 1. Is there an easy way to move around multiple units? Right now, I'm selecting all, going to the action menu and choosing a formation. I kind expected to be able to easily drag and highlight, then drag to move a group. 2. How doe the fleet build orders work exactly? When I build a formation of fighters, which unit gets the fighters, or do they all? Sometimes it says +1 and sometimes it says +2 when I build them. Thanks in advance.
1. Besides either moving one at a time or moving in formation, there really isn't an easier way. 2. The fleet build all depends on how many units you have that can build. If you drag one formation of fighters over to build, and you only have your base, it will say +1. Now let's say you have your base and two carriers. If you select to build one formation you are building it for every unit that can build fighters. So that means it will say +3, and one group of fighters will go to each one that's building. To put it simply, it's like you're telling a lot of units to build a certain thing at once. Feel free to ask more questions. Oh, and yeah, Ace, those games kicked ass.
Thanks for your help, that helps a lot. As for question #1, do you normally move your troops one at a time then?
I'm glad I could help. As for your other question, it depends. If I have a small army, let's say, four carriers, I do move them one at a time. But if I have a full-blown army, like nine battleships or something, I usually "turtle up" and move them that way.
WIth the release of Armada, I'm really missing people to play against on multiplayer for this game. And this is a very complete game. I was thinking of having the game for .99 cents but only have ch1 of the campaign, all maps for Nomadic, 2 levels of every challenge, and most importantly, close range and Nomadic level types. The rest of the stuff DLC Also incorporate a playstyle like armada, so when you press play online, it waits for people to connect, if no one connects you play a regular skirmish against 2 AI, the 2 other factions. Also set the "simple" controls as default and you can show the more advanced controls or hide them at will. It seems that people can just get by with regular controls but change them a bit to incorporate other things. Like include the selection circle but not the filter. In essence, this is a great game but I think a lot of newcomers are scared by ALL of the options. Options are great and I love the game, but I just wished more people would pick it up b/c playing online is aweesome but there's just no people. these are just my 2 cents, I really want to see this game become popular b/c it's such an overlooked game that TO ME, defines what iPhone gaming is all about. ASIDE: john, how's the balancing for the units coming along? Red and Green? Or what's on the next update?
yeah, instead of releasing many smaller updates and focusing all of my energy on this game, I've decided to back off, finish off Episode 3 properly, implement a huge number of the features you awesome people have suggested, and then release it all at once. With that kind of publicity, I'd hope to get a bunch of people all online at once, rather than spending all my energy trying to nurture the decline of popularity we've seen. so noted. I've had a lot of comments like this, and I'm experimenting a bit with it. There's a lot. And furthermore, there's no ETA just yet. We've promised "summer" of this year, and we mean it - it'll be done when it's done. In the mean time, we're expanding a bit, and we have more than the one project on the go right now - stay tuned in the forums and on our website for more news from Cat in a Box Games!
I've gotta say that being a noob at RTS games, this one takes the cake for most breathtaking visual style. I absolutely love it. Tempted to buy it just for that.
The graphics are beautiful and the skirmish and challenges will keep u plenty busy. The zoom function is awesome. Hands down this is my favorite game out of all of the ones in the idevice. I can't wait to see how this would look on muly new iPhone 4 when/if I get it. And John is a great fldeveloper to communicate with I bought this at full price and I've bought his other apps just to show my support for this developer. Graphically to me green units could be a bit sharper butthe sound effects and visual style are a total treat to have.
John: I will ofc start playing again when episode 3 comes out. And try out all of your other games too! so keep it up! ^^
I'll do another review once the update comes out. Still so much to this game. I still got to beat it on hard difficulty. As someone who was introduced to RTS games on the iDevice, this game raised the bar very high for me. I've played robocalypse, Warfare Inc, Quantum Collapse, as well as a few new ones, but this game to me is THE game ot beat. It almost seems like every game is trying to get everything that this game already has: skirmish, small/medium/large maps, online skirmish (down for now but you had it working perfectly and i'm sure you'll fix everything), 3 distinct races, great contorls, great implementation of zoom etc. It's been months since this game came out and it remains at the top of my favorite games along with Words with friends, Chess Elite, Battle for Wesnoth and Blue Attack. The second Chapter made the campaign make more sense, the challenge missions, and the speed adjustment make for endless fun. I still throw in a skirmish once every couple of days. Well John I'm glad you're not giving up on the game and that you're doing quite the opposite by focusing on the updates and giving it killer features so that this game gets the attention it deserves. I've bought your other games already so i really don't know how else to support you other than by just praising you for your work.
Nice! About the simplified controls: Add an option to switch between simplified and advanced controls. I think it would be a bit annoying if you had to enable advanced controls at the beginning of every game, even though it's only one click.
Any IPAD Version news? Also to all of you that are on the fence about purchasing this game. Gameplay , controls as well as graphics blow away all the other RTS games. At the price its at now its a steal. I'm sure that if you search YouTube you will find a video of the gameplay.
Hey joined toucharcade for this joined 2nd fleet too I have yet to play anyone online I guess im good at skirmish I win about 75% of skirmishes on hard Great game, great dev, have all his games I usually use this tactic on skirmish, it probably won't work online at all I basically rush the other bases with my green base Max out fighters I get in range to where my lasers and fighters hit enemy, since they usually dont have as many fighters as I do. if they make a cruiser or something, I back up to where only my lasers hit it, so they cant attack me. Once fighters are maxed, make a MV back up and heal if I need too, never get caught in center of mayhem Heres where is differs small maps: make a cruiser or another MV depending on health of base then make a destroyer or two start making corvettes and micro mayhem with those maybe a third MV if it is needed I usually win by then Larger maps: I usually make a foundry as my first instead of a MV from then its a cruiser or two, then mass destroyers and corvettes I usually do better on smaller maps, im better at micro and not large armies. I do use the advanced formations a lot too, when needed. Green base is a beast when used correctly
Oh and for the 'tryouts' for 2nd fleet, that might be a problem. I on vacation, and don't know when I'll be in a hotel. On top of that, some hotels and their wifi connections don't let me even join a server. Today, I couldn't even open up steam on this laptop.
This game would look awesome if optimized for iPhone4. I havent yet tried it maybe even now it looks awesome. I see some blurriness on the green Faction but I'm hoping that it'll look better with iPhone 4
