Cheapskate. If you like RTS games and/or the style of the other two games he's done, this one is a no-brainer. Definitely one of the few games that's made me go "This was only 4 bucks?" (And I did sit on the fence over the price on this one for a while - almost 2 weeks.) This is the most original RTS I've played in a long, long time - multiplayer is awesome, and the update is going to add a lot to this, and it's going on sale! Where else do you see games with newly added content going on sale?
Wow, awesome! Sooooo, this is going to be a really stupid question but I just want to make sure...John didn't mention that the global online multiplayer will work via wifi, but of course it will, right?
Oh yeah, re: price--this is the only RTS you will ever need. I'm disturbed people who are interested in it for $1 wouldn't pay $2 for it.
You are seriously missing out my friend. This game not only looks great even if you zoom in all the way, but the game play is absolutely fantastic and now it's getting full online multiplayer. The controls where also fabululous, which is saying A LOT for an RTS. But whatever, if you don't want to get it it's your loss.
i'm positive it will, great game, got stuck when it first game out, but over the past week, i've played the game alot!
Yeah, I'm sure it just goes without saying and that's why he didn't mention it, but I just had an illogical moment of panic and had to seek some confirmation on that.
online multiplayer will work with 3G, Edge, and Wifi. The bandwidth used is pretty low, so you could probably do this over a dialup connection if the iphone had the right jack for it! Adding AI players to an online game cranks up the bandwidth by a bit, because the AI makes many command decisions per second. If you're concerned about bandwidth, you can select the "no AI allowed" option when playing online multiplayer. now there's an easy and "very easy" game mode, if you get stuck, you can change the difficulty setting! if you beat a level on easy, you can beat the next level on hard or any other difficulty setting, but the game will keep track of all your stats (so you'll know you didn't beat that one level on a higher difficulty level yet).
wow... the best RTS in the appstore just got a hundred times better! This game has a campaign, challenge mission, full skirmish mode (completely customizable, with up to 8 players and teams), and now full online mode. What else can you ask for in an RTS game? Control? These work flawlessly. Just an amazing game and this update is absolutely perfect.
Can this be played in landscape mode? I would sometimes grow tired of the iPod in portrait that sometimes I just have turned to the side. It would be nice but I have no knowledge if this would be hard to implement. Robocalypse and I think Command & Conquer has those options.
Oh it's so good to hear from you again, John! One question - What about a game, you vs me? xD Someone mentioned I should try to defeat you I don't think I'm good enough, but who knows? xD
I'd be up for that sometime. I have no reservations about my ability to play the game - I wouldn't call myself all that good... I like RTS games, and I think I balanced this one pretty good, but several of my friends could probably wipe the floor with me in any RTS! My friends Robb and Chris, at the very least, possibly more... but yeah, let's set it up after the update comes out.
Green is a lot of fun, but I think my favourite is blue - green is a close second, since I've spent a lot of time playing it lately. Blue has strategic depth, and since the units are cheap, you don't need to hold on to as many resource points as red or green. Red is still a "beginner" faction to me, due to its simplicity, but I could probably still hold my own in a red game. I like it, there are only so many ways to play as red, so I'm focused as soon as I start the game. Green, green is interesting to me. Each unit is much more meaningful than units in red or blue. They're more powerful, and have higher upkeep, so you don't need to move as many of them around... you can have more powerful, smaller units, and they're easier to strategically place on the map. On the other hand, your focus is a lot more on offense, because you can't make a blockade as easily as you can with red or blue (fewer units). so yeah, short answer: blue.
I suppose I am becoming more of an cheapskate, but it is hard not to be one given the App store's mentality. Games go one sale way too often and drop in prices way too much. I cannot pick up every great game that goes on sale, so might as well pick out the ones I like the most and that have the lowest price. I am not saying this game is not worth $1.99 just that I personally might not get it at that price. Although I still may pick it up regardless of the price if the added content is substantial.
Umm... New race, this means an increase of 50% in the numbers of playable races ;-) New campaign missions, and the campaign is awesome already without the update! ONLINE MULTIPLAYER!!!!! You don't call THIS substantial???
