My suggestion is to watch videos on YouTube. Don't trust the reviews, because it looks like the kind of game that you either like or don't like. @Rinoa Weird that you find this game really complex. I read FF Tactics was more complex and overwhelming, especially for newbies in the genre.
I am not used to the link extended area attacks etc... I more used to the gameplay where you move and then you attack and/or use skills.. Simple Talking about menu.. How can this game menu similar to other games??? Have u tried closing the manual after you read the 30 pages how do u exit? Is that normal? all the "menus" have the similar interface u can't get out unless u traverse the back arrow... Anyway since I am vested I am gonna go back and replay the entire game to learn the mechanics again... I want to like this game very much...
You have to press back 31 times to exit from the manual, the dev should fix this, lol. You'll have to abuse links to get the most damage/combo, otherwise you'll be struggling with most battles. The mechanic is easy; Move Phase: This is the phase where you will have to move your units strategically, try to link as many units as possible; you'll have to make sacrifices to link them up sometimes meaning your back and sides will be exposed to the enemies as attack to those positions from the enemies (or from you) will yield more damage. Linking; The flashing squares you see is the unit's "linking squares" pay attention to them and place another unit on them and you'll link, where they are facing will also change the "linking squares" positions so play around but be aware of being exposed as mentioned above. Attack Phase; You need AP, if you find your skills set being grayed out it's either you're low on AP or you're out of range (but mostly out of AP). You can place your unit on Stand By to recover more AP. Once you have enough you can attack: - Skills - Choose the unit to attack - Select your skills - START, it's at the bottom press it! There, putting this here for reference, have fun.
In the training/learning periods, top left on screen is noted 'auto'. Is this default for training missions, or have I pressed something!!!
I get the part on linkings.. So now I have my 3 characters linked... What I don't understand.. I can only use skills after that? Where's the normal hit and defense? Fine I use skills cool, so what advantage I have having them linked? Does my skill deal extra damage? I am trying to understand that part. How do I take advantage when all my characters are linked. I am trying to figure that out.. Anyway I finally found out why all my combats are auto.. I "accidentally" pressed select.. To undo press select again lol... Now I am in command... This is never mentioned in manual lol.. I ain't traversing 60 pages to find that info again lol
The game doesn't have the standard "Attack," "Defend" options found in most RPGs, your Skills are your form of attack and yes, no way to defend except I believe there are a few protect spells to increase your defense, feel free to correct me if I'm wrong? When linking you are given more options to Combine skills or to perform arts (special move), that's the purpose and to save AP as you don't have to use many skills on one character; example here: Character A have; Skill A which cost 10 AP Skill B which cost 10 AP Character B also happened to have; Skill B which cost 10 AP When you string together A and B a new combo will form, let's call it: Skill C which deal very high damage but Character A only has 15 AP max so he can't pull it on his own, this is when linkage is useful, if Character A is linked to Character B and Character B has Skill B then you can have Char A use Skill A and Char B use Skill B, you go dutch on AP and may even have some leftover AP which you can use maybe for items or even save it. The game has no MP so AP is very important and you should find ways to conserve as much as you can. Although putting your units on Stand By will recover AP and leftover ones will be rolled over to the next turn but minimizing wastage of AP doesn't hurt. Edited to fix typos, grammar and made it more clearer!
Oh wow that's interesting!!! So basically I can have all the characters chain a particular strong attack!!! That's cool let me try again.. Thanks that has been a great help!
Bought it but haven't downloaded yet. needs more space... and i'm currently playing FFT WoTL cant wait to dive in here.
Game is still good. It doesn't have a play timer so I can't tell how long I've played. Maybe 4-5 hours? @Rinoa: The linking is the most fun part of this game. You have to position to link (or not do it) and then you use your skills successively. Another reason you'd rather chain your skills is because of the possibility of making a BREAK (see the break meter). Once the enemies enter break, they take massive damage. Of course, linking lets you do special combos which should deal more damage. Defunct explained it pretty well also that by linking, you can perform combo moves with other members when you don't have enough AP to do it yourself. Simple idea but big strategy. Also there's an early enemy that's really powerful, that dog-thing, who counter attacks if you do a physical move on him. So either drop magic on him or combo him enough to kill him in one blow. It's a good way to learn how to play. What I did is I kept replaying the early levels to learn some good formations and practice what moves do what. I can now capture monsters and that's giving me headaches.. too much stuff to do lol. And capturing is harder in this game than most other games I've seen.
I'm very interested in buying this game but I'm going to wait a little longer since there are many other games I still want to finish first. Added it to the AppShopper wish list
I hope the dev can improve the camera function next update.. It pretty annoying in most of the time and whenever u swipe u likely end up having your view blocked..so the function is pretty useless now.
the original japanese version had an arena feel so changing the camera wouldn't block stuff. the scenery in the english version is exclusive to the english version. take a look at the screenshots for the japanese version or video on youtube. in all honesty i think it is just that one map, others i played didnt have that problem.
When devs say a game is full voiced and it's in another language I'm always puzzled. This game is awesome but I'd rather just read then hear them speak a language I don't understand. Not to mention how much smaller this game would be if it wasn't fully voiced.
Does the game have MFI support already? Thought I read it wasn't in yet. Going to buy it soon regardless as I love the series, but it'll be a must-have for my flight Tuesday if it has controller support.
If anyone is pressed for cash in the game take note that you can sell off spoils from battles like Silver Ore, just a heads-up!
