Kind of a silly comment, since the Mac can be dual booted and run Windows better than most 'Windows' laptops which usually have crappy onboard video.
I've been looking into this one recently, nice and affordable yet decent. plus, its customizable a little! At Hhgregg this weekend (or at least the local ones) are having that computer on sale for only $500.
You can, but I said "usually" people use wifi with their laptops because laptops are portable, I never said you couldn't. As for Macs using bootcamp, I found that having another system on my computer really lagged it down. That's why I have a separate computer to play games now, not to mention it was a pain to switch OS just to play a game.
I've heard good things about Acer, apparently cheap with decent specs. Haven't heard of Asus though, I'll check it out. And in turn, that is kind of a silly comment, since a whole lot of Windows laptops don't use 'crappy onboard video'.
I have the third computer on that list posted. The Dell Studio. Its a great PC, the best I've ever had. As for running games, it does a pretty good job. I played Modern Warfare 2 on it for 8 months and it almost always ran smooth (I played on the lowest settings though). Thats the most strenuous game I've run on it though. As for battery life, its great when just running normal tasks. When gaming though, I almost always have it plugged in. Maybe the only con would be its weight, as it tends to be a little on the heavy and bulky side. But it has the extra battery pack. I dont mind it at all. Edit: I just read more on that list and I guess its still lighter than most gaming rigs. So it cant be too bad! 6 1/2 pounds. Overall I'd definitely recommend it! Good luck.
The statement: "Mac can't play many games" is true but I have a feeling that is all going to change with the coming and growing of Steam. There are already some great games, such as Portal.
The only way having another system can lag your computer is if you run low on hard disk space. Otherwise, that is not the reason. Not a valid concern. Also, rebooting takes 3 mins at most. You don't want to leave a bunch of apps running when playing a game anyway so I don't see where any hassle comes from.
remember..if you get a mac and you want to game...you have to pay for windows...so its gonna add over a hundred dollars to your purchase.
As has already been said, you'd have to buy Windows again even to dual boot it, so not exactly cheap. At that level you could easily get a windows one with a decent graphics card.
Not necessarily, besides you aren't counting the value of having a Mac and a PC in one box. Furthermore, the price of Win7 is not high enough to take you to 'another level' of pc laptop quality. Its only $100.
Not being stuck in windows, you can game and then get the hell out. Among countless other reasons which should be obvious why having access to both can be useful. And no-- not necessarily. Someone may already own a copy of Win7 or be content with a free one..
I don't really know what sort of obvious reasons like 'not being stuck in windows' are, but the bottom line is, I've been using windows my whole life, so I'm perfectly comfortable working in it and it serves all my needs. I don't really see the need to fix what ain't broke by throwing in a mac, so to me it seems like wasted money. More on topic, apparently Acer brands are good, but Asus are only really good for netbooks and the like, not for the more intensive stuff. Any clarification?
