Hmm.. I guess it's a decision the dev has to make. A sequel to a game can't be the exact same as the first one. Otherwise, it gets boring. Of course it's supposed to feel different. Look at the difference between LOE1 and LOE2. Devs have to always make improvements on sequels of games and some of them might not make the game feel like the original. That's the risk that a dev has to take.
That's my point. It is a risk, but beyond the name and use of characters, the sequel is significantly different enough that it really doesn't seem to have any ties to the original.
Couple of questions before I hit the buy button. How easy is it to gain money to buy cars? Can online be played over 3G? (4G if your USA) Are the multiplayer stats recorded? Win/Loss
I don't know if people go into sequels with preconceived ideas of that they want to see and that affects their impressions but I'm totally digging this game. I really enjoyed the first Reckless Racing game and this one in my opinion takes the same core formula and fleshes it out in almost every single way. I am really liking the upgrade system as they seem substantial and actually do serve to improve your vehicle. I also really like the Dynamic Difficulty system as the AI is challenging (making racing fun) without ever being completely impossible or cheap. The game pacing is a little slow at first, but as you upgrade your car, get a few cups under your belt and the Dynamic Difficulty system starts to kick in the racing becomes really fun and intense. Reserve judgement on this game until you can upgrade your car and get a few cups completed, then the game just "opens up" and really takes off. I was a little underwhelmed, now I'm on the 3rd cup series with the first call FULLY upgraded and its fantastic. Earning money is also very nicely done, race well and you'll have no problem getting something to upgrade your car every race or two. I have yet to "grind" just to get past a cup or race, and you can upgrade between races too which is very welcome. Toggle upgrades on and off if you want to go back and compete in earlier cups. Overall the Campaign Cups are really well set up. With so much content, nice visuals and really interesting features (love the Dynamic Difficulty and Race Line ETC options) Reckless Racing 2 is a top down racer I'm really, really enjoying. I love Death Rally. I love Reckless Racing. I'm really loving Reckless Racing 2 so far...
Just reading the above posts and I'm left confused by some. I'm winning races by drifting (in the dirt sections) and have been rammed and rammed plenty of times. I think the handling is spot on and I played RR1 a fair few times. I have yet to set up a car so maybe I can get drift on tarmac too? In all a worthy sequel and certainly better than any other top downer I've played. These are my own opinions mind, I respect that others feel differently. That's the problem with handling in racers, it's very subjective.
.... Played this a little today on lunch and wow I like it, I especially had a huge smile across my face on this one track where I was going around the corner with a few other cars and the ledge dropped off and they were close to ramming me right off! Intense, I was like omg omg omg ledge! lolol
Honestly this game should of had a different name. This doesn't feel like a squeal at all. Don't get me wrong the game is good and all, but it's so much different from the first one that they don't seem connected. The drifting what made the first one so much fun and in this one you can drift like that... :/
Ah, the good old days of waiting for Redneck Racing with no word from Polarbit. I have to try this one then.
wow So I have the difficulty slider at 65% and its pretty good for now, I noticed at the end of a race I got extra money based off the difficulty! Thats pretty cool in my book
Not sure which game you've been playing, but you can drift a lot in RR2. I'll have a video up by early next week showing some impressive drifting.
Been playing this some more today and I think that the dynamic difficulty system might be altering people's perception. I remember reading some posts that say that upgrades don't seem to do anything, but that is surely not the case as far as I can tell. The upgrades and the difficulty system seem to be working darn near flawlessy after doing some test runs.
Upgrades alter the handling drastically, as far as I can tell. Max out speed and acceleration and do nothing for handling and your car suddenly starts to drift through huge great curves at the slightest provocation, plus it becomes practically uncontrollable on dirt or sand. Either that or I'm completely losing the ability to play the game from one race to the next.
I guess if you consider SLOW and BORING drifting impressive, then this game is very impressive. Don't get me wrong, you can drift, it's just not nearly as good or exciting as it was in RR1 and that's not my opinion, it's a fact. One only need to start a race in RR2, then immediately switch to a race in RR1 and the difference between drifting in both games will be night and day.
You can modify your car to be a drifting machine. Heck, eightrooks just said that and I can attest. High speed and high acceleration minus handling = you do the math.
