I think he is as mad as an Angry Bird, or maybe evn a Raging Bird.

Dude, you should chill out with some Cut the Rope, or Doodle Jump. Donut games just came out with a game today if you are looking for something new and fresh. If those don't make you feel better, you are probably a zombie. :D

Good games are popular because they're good.

I see your point that there may seem to be a lot of games with these elements, but lets not forget the number of war co-op FPS games that exist in the console and PC world, the number of competition reality shows, or the number of daily deal websites.

Consumers just tend to typically gravitate and like the same things around the same time, so content makers feed the fire until the next hot thing catches on.

Ooh, that's close, but it should read:

Good games are popular because they're good and feature cute birds. ;)

Yes, but they also tend to feature rope, 3 stars, cardboard boxes and zombies. The makings of the perfect game. Why then do I still like Ratchet and Clank on my PS 2 then? I think it's my Alzheimer's. Or maybe it's something else... I forget... It makes me so angry. I feel like I'm turning into a zombie, or a doodle, or... Maybe I should just listen to some soothing music, something with marimbas perhaps.

No they are not. This may seem the case but there's no proof of that. Normal people immidiatly see it's a ripoff and instinctively trigger their common sense saying: avoid.

I can understand that populair games can be a huge inspiration but most of these 'games' are a total 1-1 ripoff. Creative much?

I think this is just blatantly wrong. (Of course it depends exactly how you define "normal" people). Gamers (which includes everyone hanging out in these forums) are aware of this.

Most people will only be exposed to handful of the games in existence. If they liked Angry Birds they might be looking for something similar in their next game. If it features a cute bird character I bet it counts as a positive nine times out of ten...

    Yes you're right.

I think it's me that should stop complaining and should give those game a try. I'm sure they will be good.

Thanks for the eye-opener dude!! :)

can't see much angry birds "inspired" games recently.. now they are after cut the rop with look and feel and some of then look pretty good.. but differentiate so less.. if see 10 games all looking so similar, all being the "next big thing".. i maybe buy one.. surely not all..

then games like bumpy road become game of the week, onf of the biggest promotion you can get from apple (except being showed on tv) and the game has yet to be found in the top100.. :/ (in germany that is)

Very good game and a developer that dares to try something new, altough the game was a lil too repetitive.

    Ontopic:

What I also very much lykehhh is how all the game icons are very similair. They all have these.. nice.. vector rays in it.

The true is that a game can inspire you.

if you look at our game Gaston 1, you will directly say " hey, it's Doodle Jump Dude ! you rip it off !"... but if look closely you will see a different game with a different gameplay and feeling. You will say "Doodle Jump" because it become so popular that you will inevitably compare to it. We know about Doodle Jump, they both have the same spirit but we wanted to make something different with a cool and fun gameplay. Maybe Doodle Jump was inspired by a old Atari 2600 game, who knows? Maybe Angry Birds was inspired to a other unpopular physical game.

    Inspiration is the word.

Take the good to make a original good game. That's the good spirit for any game dev.

a clone is like Giana Sisters to Super Mario Bros
inspiration is like Super Mario to Sonic

Doodle jump was inspired by a flash game called doodle jump. They took the name and changed the graphics. The end!
