Hi ya all! My b-day is Saturday and my 8gig 2nd gen touch just ain't cutting it anymore. It works great and in mint condition but I'm struggling to keep everything under 8 gigs so it's time for an upgrade. When I got this last summer I had no idea what all it could do and all the games it could play, who knew I would end up as a app store junkie, lol. Here's my problem, I'm stuck between a 16gig ipad for 500 or a 32 gig 3rd gen touch for 280. They both have great features I would use but I can't decide what would be the best one for me. I love the portability of the touch alot, and 32 gig will end my space problem for a while for sure, and I just found out about the voice command thing and that's a feature I will probly use alot when I'm cleaning and gardening. For the ipad I like that it's easier for me to read, chemo has taken a toll on my eyesight a bit, 16gig will help with the space but wouldn't be too hard to fill quickly, HD screen is nice and can play my already bought games, but it's not nearly as portable or as comfortable to use 1 thumb for my card games and turn based RPGs I love. Also the price makes it a lot bigger strech to afford. Does the ipad have the voice command thing? As far a speed they are close enough for me for it not to be an issue. I also don't jailbreak so there's no firmware issue either. I could really use your thoughts of which is the better buy for me and why. Thanks in advance!!
I would say to get the iPad. If you are having trouble with your eyesight, you'll find that the iPad is so much easier to see. I have both the iPad and the Touch, and I rarely even use my Touch any more, except as a music player. Everything is so much clearer on the iPad--games, books, videos, the web. Go to the apple store and play around with an iPad if you haven't already. I bought the 32 gig, and by keeping the Touch as a music player, it saves a lot of space on the iPad. It was expensive, but I have never regretted getting it. The difference is amazing!
I can't wait until sept. It has to be this weekend, my 2gen touch is going to my son for his b-day in July. Other than eyesight, why do you this the pad is a better choice??
I like to watch videos on it, and the bigger screen is a lot more comfortable for me to watch. With my Touch, I could only watch for about an hour without eyestrain, but with the iPad it's more like watching a TV. I like the abc app that streams recent episodes of shows. I like to play games, and the games just look better on the bigger screen. Reading books through iBooks (or even Stanza) feels more like reading a real book--it took a lot more effort to read a book on the small screen of the Touch than it does on the larger iPad screen. I also think that there will be a lot more Universal apps released when OS 4.0 comes out, so the number of games that match the resolution of the iPad screen will increase. Web browsing is also a lot better. I like the fact that I can buy a data plan on a month-to-month basis with no contract (for the 3G iPad.) I can use it the months I need it, and cancel it for the months that I don't. I guess I am used to the iPad now, and my Touch looks so tiny and cramped in comparison. Play around with an iPad, and then make your decision based on what feels right for you. You may find that the iPad is too heavy, or that you don't want to sacrifice the portability of the Touch. Good luck.
32g 2nd Gen iPod Touch Why? Because you save much more money to spend on games/apps. If you buy an iPad, you spend more which leads to less apps. Some apps are more expensive. Not all iPod Touch/iPhone apps are on the iPad (i think). Or wait for the new iPod Touch. Just ask around for money for your b-day. What do you use your iDevice for?
I mostly play games, surf and listen to music when working on my house cleaning and such. Portability is a big issue as I usually play at doctors offices and chemo treatments. Bigger hard drive and price are big factors too. I think I'm leaning toward the touch 3 gen because functionally it may be a better fit for me. I'm afraid after all the hype dies down, the ipad my not fit my needs or lifestyle as well.
Ok then. I stick with what i said. Getting the iPod Touch gets you more apps and a lot of memory. The only thing i like about the iPad is the amount of apps that can fit in a page.
Got to go play at the apple store yesterday! Lots of fun playing with all the gadgets. The ipad was wayyyy bigger than i imagined and woulnt fit my needs because of the size. Its like half a laptop and feels that way too!! Other than graphics i wasnt as impressed as i thought i would. I ended up going with the 32 gig 3G with voice control ( which is so much fun to play with i found, lol ) and i was told i will be able to upgrade to OS 4 when it comes out. It the end it wasnt a money choice but a portability one.
