why would this be considered stealing? i'd rather call it "making the game playable and fun", which obviously wasn't EA's goal.

No, the consumer's unwillingness to spend money + piracy (which is a HUGE problem on iOS, I've seen some of the figures and they are absolutely mind boggling) has led to this point. We really have no one to blame but our collective self.

Deal with it. It's just a video game. Get on with life.

Stealing ingame currency. It's called digital theft, and it's illegal.

Well, each to their own but iap hacks and piracy are wrong whatever way you look at it.
It still contributes to ruining the industry for the rest of us and all developers whoever they may be.
I hate piracy, I'll always hate piracy and I have no problem standing by my opinion on it being theft.

If that is the question - i would prefer that this game never saw the light of day! Paying real money so that i don't have to wait for my brakes to get repaired... That must be a joke!? Paying for my real car in my real live is annoying enough!!

What if someone drops a $9.99 IAP as a goodwill gesture then gets a modded version of the game. Is that still wrong? How so, if so?

So many blinkers on in this thread you could use it to black out the Superdome.

As regards the bold text, the second part of this quote would seem to indicate otherwise.

That's nice. Same here, for the most part, though I don't like to say I would never actually credit-feed a freemium game. If it was good enough, who knows? Still, anyway, you know what? Our opinions do. Not. Matter. The billions upon billions of people who are quite happy to carry on funding city-builders and time management games and card battlers and all the rest of it? They matter.

Consumers are far, far more to blame for the race to the bottom in my eyes. Dedicated players have bitched about pricing for decades (justifiably, in many respects, to be fair) but they do not think and never have thought about why prices were what they were - and no, it's not simply corporate greed, so sorry. People resent high prices simply because it's a lot of money, so when some studio, any studio, comes out with any game that's $10, then $5, then $3 and so on, their first thought is "Why can't everyone do this?". And they think hell, if everyone did this I'd have a lot more money, and it seems like a raw deal that they don't, so they moan on the internet that the greedy developers are screwing them over. No consideration whatsoever for what everyone racing to charge as little as possible actually entails

On the one hand, what seems like a horde of whining, entitled gremlins who'll drone on at length about how they've got no intention of spending any money on this spawn of Satan: on the other hand, a potential customer base that's tens, hundreds, thousands of times larger who'll happily throw pocket change away in bits and pieces until they've spent a fortune and they'll rarely if ever complain about it. Why in the name of Christ would you carry on trying to keep the former group happy? Why? What does it get you?

Ahahahahahahaoh, dear God, you actually believe that, don't you?

What, you mean the way you're doing, with your whole "I'm not saying we should blame the developers *cough* butthey'veclearlysoldtheirsoulstothedevil *cough* " act? ;)

I admit the service timers sound horrendous, and I'm not looking forward to them at all (though I won't be playing this any time soon anyway unless EA actually put the Android version out on my tablet). To my mind, I don't care if the entire planet plays games for sixty second bursts every couple of days: I should have the option to play for eight hours straight if I want to without being unduly penalised or hindered for trying. But I accept my opinion does. Not. Matter. The sooner a great many people come to terms with that, and stop spouting nonsense about market crashes and mass boycotts as if they have any power over anything, individually or collectively, the better off they'll be.

wow, this is going a little bit too far!
i mean, i also hate how EA totally screwed this game but saying that you would encourage everybody to hack this game is 1 step too far imo!

People complain about spending money on a game, something as little as 69p is a big deal for certain people. So they make it free so that you can spend more money on iAPs. How does that work?

games like Junk Jack can do IAP, make people WANT To buy the IAP, not force it and still make a killing without offering any huge advantage. This is an example of how IAP can be used for good, to allow for continual updates of a game and more.

It's a shame that Big comes like EA with this game can't learn from the good examples that work on both sides and still bring in the profit.

In JJ it's possible to spend more than 10x the cost of the game itself but I haven't seen any one play it calling that a rip off. Really is one of the best examples possible.

If more games like that came out and less like this in terms of purchasing structure, the platform could have another burst of life quite easily.

It spossible for both profit hungry companies and gamers to get on with one another but with the sheep crowd very little CEO's see that and just make games on name alone.

Where did I even hint at, never mind actually say that?

Don't dare put words in my mouth, and stop being so presumptuous.

If you'd read my previous posts you'd know I buy every major new release on day one. I don't wait for sales, I don't jailbreak to use shitty hacked apps, I proudly own the likes of Final Fantasy 4, War of the Lions, DoDonPachi Resurrection (twice due to HD), TWEWY, and many, many more (400+ apps).

Fact remains that this kind of IAP model is as poisonous and harmful to the industry as piracy. It's ludicrous what EA are charging for even ONE car.

No, sorry, you can't rationalize the kicking, screaming, and now "Well let's just steal the IAP currency, guys!" with "EA started it." All EA "started" was making a video game that everyone here has the option of not playing.
