This reminds me a bit of the "wait to play" freemium model that Gameloft employed for Let's Golf 3. I fear this, because 2 horrible things happened: 1, the game sucked compared to Let's Golf 2 due to the intrusive little menus with coin counters and other bullshit cluttering up the screen all the time, not to mention the actual waiting (for a game of GOLF, not exactly a 5 minute pick-up-and-play). And 2, those money grubbers actually REMOVED the 2 previous games from the App Store, just in case someone wanted to actually enjoy the game for extended play sessions for a reasonable price. That being said, if Real Racing and Real Racing 2 are dropped from the App Store in the near future, I'm gonna be boycott-level disappointed.
I totally agree on Eli. Want hard core? Look no futher to NSW:MW. This is for quick breaks. For me though, it will only be a gaming break from MC4...
It's a real shame to hear that after loving RR1 and 2 so much, again this is the let's golf 3 problem all over again minus the gameloft and pulling let's golf 1 and 2 from sale.
I think it's fairly clear at this point which way the majority of posters on this site appear to be leaning. I would think, your readers and the community here and their interests, should be your priority, and should be where your loyalties and support lie. Instead, you've done nothing but ridicule, condescend, and inflame. For what purpose and to what end? If your readers and this community are not where your priorities lie, what is?
Telling people the game isn't for them isn't much consolation when they've built up a fondness for an IP and a respect for the developer, only to have their expectations dashed. What if every game on the planet went the same way? Would you say "looks like gaming isn't for you" when clearly it used to be perfectly suited to them? It's the games that went wrong, not the players. Sure, they can face facts and get on with life, but that's also what you do after the death of a loved one. You're still missing out.
We don't typically pander to the vocal minority if that's what you're getting at. I typically look at traffic numbers and other analytics as that's a much better indicator of what people are actually interested in who read TouchArcade instead of focusing on whatever the forums are mad about that day. Everyone who is active here totally hating Real Racing 3 was totally predictable, yet every time we post about it, it results in a traffic surge so large it brings down the site. *shrug*
I take that as a diss to all (or rather, most) of your forum members here. Show some respect dude. Just cause you own the place doesn't mean you can ride a high horse like that.
Ok, now the whole game is a scam. You're basically playing time-shifted multiplayer. So if someone is THAT good you're never going to be able to beat his time and thus get No.1 in a race. WHAT A SCAM, I repeat.
After several "incidents" I've experienced so far, I just hope that whoever reviews the game will hold their hands in the air and acknowledge that killing the game process is a hugely beneficial tactic in RR3, and something about that fact is very wrong indeed. So please, Mr Reviewer, give the game a good score if you like it, but don't skimp on pointing out how ridiculous some of the negative aspects are.
It's not a "diss," at all. You guys keep insist that I'm ridiculing everyone when all I've done is post the reality of the situation which many of you refuse to accept.
To be fair Eli has pointed out the "controversial payment system" and "forum rage" on the front page of the site.
Ah well, not everybody hates it. As a long term fan of Firemonkeys with a small understanding of marketing, I can totally see and understand what they are trying to do. And from a business purely point of view, its actually extremely brave of them to do it with this particular franchise. I have to admit to being a bit uncomfortable with the level of waiting and the cost of some of the iap. Do I think it will reach top free and top grossing? Easily, no problem. Will I continue to play it and support the developer? Absolutely. They are hugely talented and very engaging. Will I play this the same way I did the other two? No, not really. It will require some adapting to the waiting model. But I accept that this is the cost of doing business on the App Store and I actually hope Firemonkeys have success with it. A bit of tweaking is certainly called for but I can't wait to see how it does on full release. Purely to see the numbers. I can only imagine because the monetization of CSR genuinely surprised me. At the level of this game though, it'll be monster numbers. Edit. Funnily enough I don't really seem to be hitting the same level of repair numbers people are talking about. I did have to change oil for 15 minutes but that's about it. And I've seven or eight races played with firsts and seconds in most. And then replayed em again as Gamecenter friends started putting in times on TSM so had to go and beat their numbers. So about 21 races with no problem except oil change. I don't crash or get near opponents in a race either but still lowest finish is 5th.
I respect that. I want to thank you for convincing me to not download this game since it isn't geared toward players like myself. But you also have to accept that players like myself are sad and upset about that prospect because for me, this was definitely the most anticipated game of the year. At least I remembered to re-download RR2, just in case they do pull it.
I think people are starting to get it. That being said, everything you post has this air of condescension about it, like you've been stroking your cat and waiting for this moment you knew was coming so you could shove it in the face of your readers. The handful of people here at TA that prefer to wait for a sale aren't the cause of this debacle. Nor are the people complaining that $10 is too much. The driving force behind this abysmal decision was nothing more than exposure. EA doesn't give a crap about this site, it's readers or any other site or any other group of readers. They're after exposure. They're after massive download numbers, word of mouth and the occasional lemming that will maybe throw them a bone or two. You know this. Which begs the question...why insinuate anything else?
And eli's reality is that if you enjoy playing a game for more than 10 mins, then ios isnt for you. Time to leave ios behind guys...
I love how I'm portrayed as some kind of comic book villain running TouchArcade. Of course it isn't the sole result of our community, but rather, the attitude of most iOS device owners in general. I'm sorry I didn't clarify who the proverbial "you guys" encompassed.
Hey hey hey, let's not skew the facts in order to make a point because then we won't be taken seriously... I got FIFTEEN minutes of play time out of this.
