One more thing...freemium games can and often do change how "severe" the model is, whether it involves special currency, timers, both, etc. through updates.

I'm actually pleased by this move fron EA though, believe it or not. We all know up front that this is a freemium game. There are plenty of apps and games that have been altered through the update process into freemium or "paymium" when they were never advertised as such to begin with. Or paid apps with iaps included for those who "wanted to progress faster"; only to inflate the prices of in-game items, or increase the time spent grinding through updates.

I can't fault EA for being upfront about how they intend to profit from the game. i COULD fault them for buying Firemint, but in all honesty, I could never play RR or RR2 because I didn't have enough storage space.

  2. Wait...does this boycott include the games of Chillingo, Firemint (before Firemonkeys) and Popcap as well, or just games published by EA

  3. You are making all us US people lose all hope. I was hoping with all its faults, it still would be a fun racing game, but hearing these kind of comments make me double think.

  4. Well, you can have this one then, I will take Megan Fox.

  7. Gamers? Almost everyone in this world can't even play this yet, including the US. Maybe we all need to move to New Zealand.

I gave numerous impressions on only gameplay. Not much response indeed.
A lot of people tend to actually like the gameplay, but it's not for me. Trying to beat someone else's time is called rally. Put in moving objects with no interaction with you and you've got an arcade rally game. No matter how good the physics, graphics and what not might be,without interaction there's no racing.
Just driving laps and avoid obstacles. We'll see if real multiplayer will be included ,and if that's good there might be light on the horizon.

Pretty much anyone can play this game. Creating an NZ account for free games is extremely easy.

  10. The saddest line is the final one...

It’s fair to say it has been a job well done by the Australian development team of Firemonkeys which has sadly been ruined by the money hungry EA.

Oh. Heh. Ahaha. Haha, that's a good one. Oh god, you're serious. Well, EA's the biggest publisher in the US, so you're kind of SOL whether you complain or not. You're not going to win.

    "Connector and I."

I don't like the idea of Real Racing 3's mechanics, but you seem to have forgotten that they have some of the most popular IPs of this generation of games. From Battlefield to Mass Effect to Dead Space, EA has an iron grip on the industry. It's destructive, not going to help anyone, and is really testing my patience. Despite this, unless you rally the entire mass of the internet against EA (because you're not the first person to start a boycott, and you won't be the last; yours is rather minuscule), you're not going to win.

What do you think people did when they found out Bad Company was console-exclusive? Boycott. What platform is it on now? Still only the Xbox 360 and PS3.

What about Origin? EA never releasing Battlefield 3 on Steam? How about when it was boycotted? Still only on Origin. If you're going to argue Crysis and such, keep in mind that was when Crytek was part of the "EA Partners" program, which gives them full rights to distribute Crysis and Crysis 2 anywhere on any platform it's available for.

And now Real Racing 3. It's as if you went from complaining about the power of your government to whining that your ice cream is melting.

You all sound as if a relative is dying, passing away.

Get some ballz and some spine and stop this neverending cycle of misery, like *gravevoice*: Oh noes, this is the end, this is the end...

Other mothers have pretty daughters, too.
If you can live with the game: play; or simply ignore it.
There will be other racing games eventually.

Wait, now there's an issue with ranting in the rant thread too? Do we need a Rant Thread for this Rant Thread?

  14. I am always fair, I will give it a fair shake when I get it here in the US. Who knows, maybe I will turn into a loverz instantly, but I really don't think so with what EA, Chillingo, and Firemonkeys is going through.

I do realize the 99 pages of hate on the first day was mostly from people that hadn't played the game, and a lot of it was untrue. But there are a lot of sad realities that are very apparent.

Anyway, I have never said it was a bad game, didn't play well, or anything to that since I haven't played it. But hearing from many many people that have played it, the future looks bleak for ios gaming. Madfinger actually is looking like a saint of a company compared with EA and Firemonkeys with Real Racing 3. I hope the US version has some drastic changes like no timer waits.

  15. How? Without using a credit card or buying a NZ gift card. Can it be done? Then I will go download it soon.

Wel, that's an actual impression after playing the game, so obviously that's perfectly fair.
My point at the start of my post was the thread originally filled up with just rage, really as simple as that with no real impressions of the game. Just an instant reaction to the tutorial and no recognition that I could see that it just a tutorial in the mechanics.

You've actually put some time in and posted your actual impressions. I may not share your view but why would that be a problem, its not. I don't share the views of many people that I engage with on a daily basis in the real world and it doesn't change the nature of those interactions.

So thanks for posting actual impressions. Its simply the knee jerk reaction and uninformed conclusions that I find unfair. Informed ones like your own are always valid.

  17. Yeah, looking forward to Asphalt 8, it better not be like this.

  18. Down with Vovin! Boycott all posts by Vovin!!! :p

Well, I'm not really sure encouraging a boycott of EA published games (even on the NFSMW price drop thread, you encourage people to boycott that great game, not to mention you're new signature) based on a game you haven't downloaded or even played yet qualifies as balanced or fair, now does it?

  20. Triscuitable, you do realize the moderators instructions right? Read one page before.
