this is the WORST , and i'll say it again : WORST surprise i got on an IOS Game since the beginning Freemium type + Electronic Arts = Toxic Bomb. Let's try : the fact there's some car packs to buy... ok ... even let's say some race tracks to unlock with money... why not. The game is cool , beautiful as intended , well finished 1rst (well the AI seems to be a bit dull...) got some money... (okay) , leveling my pilot rank (okay...) and oh a screen with my car and some repair bars... let's see.. oil, tires... cost... money... and time... *scratching my head* ... time... 15min for oil... *scratching again* Wait : TIME for repairs ? it's a joke ?? .... "of course" you can skip this time with IAP Tokens or using other car (but you don't have 40 cars at start) "Pay or Wait" was usual method for IAP Strategy games, card games , with some "Energy" ressource but now in a race game ??? 1 Star ; 0 if i could , i was waiting for this game as a True Premium game, even for 10-15$ , it could have been a killer. This is just... Sparta ? I don't have words for this commercial S***
It's great to see that at least some honest critics are willing to call a spade a spade, instead of saying that this was a completely inevitable outcome and that we should just accept this as the future of iOS gaming. I wonder if this post is going to be shunted to the Rants thread too.
+1 Real honesty here! AppSpy has become my no.1 review site for iOS games. Real Racing 3 is an excellent game, but the IAPs totally damages the experience. And I wished TA would admit that it does indeed ruin the game a bit. I guess we have to wait for the full review from Eli!
AppSpy is my #1 review site too You can trust them as they solely focus on reviewing games and don't have to rely on special leaks from devs, page hits and all that. That's why they're not afraid and honest.
Indeed, we do need to move on. Too bad we won't because we are simply too shocked. Also, NFS: MW does not look as impressive as RR3 on retina. And finally I'm just going to take my further RR3 thoughts over to the rant thread rather than face a suspension or a ban for not toeing the TA line.
I like it, makes good toilet reading. But still, yeah. Not as friendly as I thought TA was like when I am a junior.
F2P is not the only way to sell your wares on the App Store. There are numerous examples of developers not cowing down to this ridiculous trend that dilutes gaming at its core. Furthermore, look beyond the gaming category and you'll see that developers who are willing to ask their worth for an app get their price, from my own experience with music making apps. F2P is one alternative, and EA could have easily given us the other half by having high priced iAP which removes timers completely. It could be as high as $30, but it would remain within this ecosystem. However the truth is that EA is not simply out to make money in a reasonable way but to increase its profit margin as much as it can at the expense of the customers, as shown by Dead Space 3. As for NFS:MW, I already own it and not only does it not look as impressive visually, I also didn't like its arcade sensibilities. I was much more hyped for RR3. I haven't yet played the game but it seems like there's quite a bit wrong with the actual gameplay in RR3 as well. That will be revealed on the 28th I guess.

Eh, who cares. The developers of Real Racing 3 deserve all the bashing and hate they get, even from the good people at Touch Arcade. Their studio can go under for all I care
RR3 is a horrendous sign of the state and trajectory of iOS gaming and is also a major step that could drive the process even faster depending on its success, but some of the posts in this thread are ridiculous and hilarious. I would totally read it on the toilet. I think I actually did a couple times when it was just the RR3 thread.
Oh no doubt, some of the stuff people are posting is ridiculous, but that always happens. People seem to be insinuating that now regulars are acting like spoiled children too.
