Its wrong because its theft. Acquiring something by illicit unauthorised means that normally has an exchange of goods policy (money for gold, in game currency, food, clothes, anything) is theft, stealing, wrong morally and ethically. That's it. I'm out on it now. Resorting to piracy and then justifying it by saying the iap is too expensive is just low. I'd love a Ferrari as well but its a bit expensive, is it okay to steal one? No its not. The lowest common denominator and the very reason we have freemium at all is really starting to show its true face now. Well done, you should all be ashamed. (That's not directed at you as such so don't take it personally, its directed at pirates and those condoning piracy)
Seriously. As of this point forward, any discussions regarding hacking or otherwise circumventing IAP in this thread is going to be met with a ban. Not a timeout, a hasta la vista, it's been real, total peace out. This is ####ing ridiculous, and I'm beyond ashamed that this is ENCOURAGED by some of you. For ####s sake.
Well look at simpsons tapped out. For the ray gun it was 100 dollars that's outrageous then there's blitz brigade
Again, to be slightly fair to them, if these figures for the service timers are true - and I'm assuming they are - that is pretty damn grim, and much, much further than I thought EA would go. At least when I play Dungeon Hunter 3, say, there's always something to do I'm going to find entertaining to some extent. Even looking at the thread for Juggernaut and remembering how blatantly that wanted my money I loved the fighting system enough I was happy to grind. Being stuck without a virtual car in my game where I race virtual cars, or being pressured to play the game in a way I don't want to for hours at a time because of a largely arbitrary cooldown that exists primarily to make money does not sound like a nice feeling. Yet the refusal of people to look at all the reasons why this might have come to pass is just mindboggling. I keep thinking it shouldn't shock me or get me emotional, but it does. And Jesus, guys, if 99c is a lot of money for you, really a sum you cannot afford to waste, I suggest you probably shouldn't be spending any money on videogames at all.
"All EA has done is create a game people can choose not to play". What?!? At $100 (£65) for one car, no wonder people are choosing not to play. A virtual car in a game costing almost as much as tyre for my ACTUAL car!
I don't think Junk Jack is making a killing. A game like Clash of Clans is making a killing, and this timer and extended life formula is a copy of that. The forum readers here don't want it, but apparently the masses of casuals do. It's a bold move with this franchise, and while they will get reamed by all the "serious" gamers around here, they will in fact make a killing. I'm not going to get so bent out of shape as some of you, that's for sure. I've bought my share of full price games trying to contribute, Battle Academy, TWEWY, Baldurs Gate, etc. I will take it for what it is. Not much to argue about when you look at the sales figures in today's market. Eli you are right!
Bent out of shape? Meh I was only saying how IAP can still work not making an epic bold statement lol. JJ is making enough money to warrant a who new game JJ2, it's definitely a good sign there. RR3 wouldn't have hurt doing something simillar, losing the freemium still having IAP and profiting at the same time.
Thing is, for all my problems with Dead Trigger I never felt bothered by the IAP or any other freemium aspect of its design. The initial release was frustrating the way it saddled you with a terrible pistol at the start, but even then once you got your first gun and finally got used to how the levels worked it got pretty easy fairly quickly. Much as I wouldn't rate it particularly highly I thought it was a fairly good example of how to make that sort of game freemium. I got five or six hours of so-so entertainment out of it and it never cost me a penny (well, beyond paying when it was a paid app), which might not sound like much of a recommendation but it's a lot more than I can say for quite a few things I've played over the years.
