If they want to make it accessible to everyone, why not have a freemium version, and a premium version!? Exactly.... They lied - they want money.

I like how a 3 hour wait is considered Freemium done well, game development is butchering itself, the passion these days seems to be in monetization and analytic guffery. Game design for the love of game play is dying rapidly.

Guys, guys, Am I the only one here who is happy that this is actually freemium. I mean don't get me wrong, I love premium games, but firemonkey knows what we want. As long as there is no paywall, it is playable, no? It also increases attention a bit.

I can't wait, will give this a try.

    Nope. He isn't.
I've been reading this entire thread slowly breathing in and out as I saw a lot of you throw a (small) fit.
With full attention I carefully read the articles that have been released by various sites, such as TA itself.
Although I've had my concerns, it seems that for now they are just mixed feelings. I still have faith in Firemonkeys and what they have done with the game.

Will I dash out money it? If really needed and if the timers are really that nasty, then I will.
Because as mentioned: once you have a few cars, I am quite sure you can get plenty hours of racing thrills until you are stuck with timers on all of your vehicles.
Maybe I will buy a moderate car pack and a booster pack. Something like that.

In the end we can all scream and cry as loud as we want and keep doing so in other threads about other "premium" games as well, but that isn't going to change the business model that is becoming increasingly popular on the mobile platform anytime soon.
Deal with it, or go back to your consoles. At least you won't have any micro transaction situations there, like in Dead Space 3.
    Oh, wait... ;)

Dealing with it is terrible advice, you'd still be living in a mud hut if your ancestors took your stance.

Oh and btw, Justin Bieber is popular too. Doesn't always mean popularity is a good thing.

    2nd that.

After seeing the other articles today about the game, I am looking forward to this. I was prepared to spend 10 bucks on this anyway. I think the depth of this will cover many many hours of play (even without dropping any cash)

what's funny about all time-based freemium games is that just a simple change with the iPhone or iPad's clock, you can pretty much eliminate it. ;)

I have a bad feeling Firemonkeys won't be profitting from Real Racing 3 much. CSR Racing got popular because it was ridiculously simple; it was all about hitting one button. Real Racing 3 is way more complicated, and will get those casual gamers probably bored with it after a short lifetime. And this game's freemium model was built around the casual audience.

Hardcore gamers on the other hand, won't settle down to pay for IAPs. So I, like most of us on this forum, won't pay a dime on the game. So Firemonkeys won't profit from us one bit!

Ya, someone is probably going to get fired if this doesn't turn it to be profitable.

What i dislike about freemium/free to play games is that i will never own the game, but i'm just "allowed " to play it.
I can't think of one game with timers that i played for more than a day.
I really dislike 'm because i know they are only there to persuade me to give them money because i'm impatient. And i am very impatient. Thus i refuse to throw coins into the bottomless well. To each their own ofcourse, but i know for myself upfront i won't like it.

If you just have left my advice in this particular context, then it's great advice.

If it's a good or bad thing is totally out of scope as I never expressed my opinion on said matter.

In other words: what are you trying to convey to me here? Because your entire reply to me seems totally mute? :)

I agree with you. Looking forward to trying the game out.

I don't understand - if someone wants to pay 7 dollars for RR 3, they can.

It's as simple as this, if you don't like iAPs then don't purchase any. that's one way of sending them a message. What would really send them the message if no one downloaded the game or left 1 star ratings. Maybe then they would be forced to remove the game and redevelop it the way we want it.

I'm sorta in the middle. I agree with Gabrien that the introduction of a mechanic (repairing) that adds nothing to the gameplay and exists entirely to annoy you into buying fake money is worrisome.

On the other hand, as others have pointed out, this is currently the best way to remain profitable on the AppStore. I've said it before: this is a business, not a charity. To charge 9.99 in the current climate would probably be suicide for a (relatively) big budget game like this. Firemonkeys has proven in the past to be very, very good ios devs and they deserve to be paid for their blood, sweat, and tears.

After reading the various articles posted throughout the day, I would say I'm cautiously optimistic for this.

Yes but paying $7 for what? 20 faster time regen? 4 cars? 4 race tracks out of 30? A bag of 2000 gems/coins?

If 7 bucks unlock the FULL game with no time restriction (or any restrictions for that matter!) then I'd be more than happy to spend it but not for the IAPs fest.

    No, you're not.
The majority of the non TA reading/posting public are actually not opposed to it at all.
You'll see that reflected when it immediately hits the top spot in all stores free category and soon after hits the highest grossing spot.
And whether anyone posts positively or negatively about it is somewhat irrelevant as the reason for it is down to the app buying public as a whole anyway.
The devs are not at fault at all. They have to adapt to whatever model will make them the most money. It's quite a normal business practice.
And developing and publishing is after all a business.
Free to play simply generates more money while premium ones (the majority, not all) sometimes struggle to make a profit.

I don't doubt it. Brings that old quote back to mind though: "Shit tastes great — billions of flies can't be wrong."

Totally agree with the great Rip. Business is hard in the app store. It will get the editor's choice, it's free and people will download it. And they will purchase an iAP. What? Saving $5 on a few minutes is not reasonable? So don't buy it. They give a choice here, that is what I like. You can still play it, and after like 5 cars you can play hours.

EA is being run by flies then. Screw them. Leave IAP model for Android and charge me $10 for the full game on the IOS. If that's so hard to understand - i'll support other Dev's, who gets that message.
