Just turn off the notifications for RR3 in settings. It is painful. I also hate being told I have enough money to buy stuff.
Yes thanks for telling me I'm loaded now put the kettle on and STFU

The first day or two? Can't do it without IAP

After that? Nothing. It's free, and able to be played as you described within days.

Many if us were mad at 1st as it was impossible to play without being asked for handouts. The timers were then pulled back and now we gave a different beast on our hands.
The 1st model was an ugly bitch and for many reasons triggered a negative response.
I'm really hoping this isn't a juvenile "I told you so" coz that would be sad considering how many of us have already admitted that we have back flipped on the game

No, just curious. I've been really busy with other stuff so I haven't had time to follow this thread. Not unexpected to see a flip flop though once everyone stabilized in the game. Glad you guys like it!

I'm glad too, because I've been waiting for months for this game, and putting my money in all kind of other ersatzs.

And now, I got my candy for free! It's really something very amusing slash creepy in it.

Oh sweet. Sorry. Heaps of interesting stuff to be analyzed here from the gaming media. The TSM is (with a few tweaks) possibly the future of mobile multiplayer.
Once initially vomit inducing the pricing structure can be viewed as quite sophisticated. Core gamers can get an advanced racer for very little money or even free. While kids with too much money and no brains can have fun here too.
There are so many variables for possible enjoyment or distaste I would hate to officially review this game.
Regardless on the 28th this thread is gonna be ugly :)

You mean once EA/FM stabilized the game!

Don't get me wrong, i'm still pissed that they made this "worst case freemium ever existed" but since they 'tweaked' the timers i'm a little less pissed! :p
They won't get a penny from me though due to their own fault!
I was happy to pay 30$ or more if this was premium, but now 00.00$

    Game Impressions

Real Racing 3 is a great looking/playing car racing game for handheld devices, however the "Freemium" pricing model for the game based off the features presently available make it hard to recommend to anyone.

I downloaded the game yesterday and have been using it since (notice I didn't say "playing")

If you want to unlock all of the cars/tracks in the game, other than playing MANY, MANY hours, and waiting MANY, MANY more hours for upgrades and repairs, is to pay real money for gold coins and game cash.

The pricing model is EXTREMELY expensive, with the coin or cash packages each as much as $100 or more PER package. With some of the cars requiring MULTIPLE of the MOST EXPENSIVE money or coin packages to purchase. Example, the Koenigsegg Agera R costs 800 gold coins to purchase. To buy this right off the bat, you would need to pay $200 or more for two sets of 400 gold coins, JUST for this car. $200, just for ONE digital representation of a car. How in gods name can EA justify this kind of pricing even for a full blown console title?

There are other issues as well.

    - No time trials or a way to race the tracks without other cars; you are forced to do the default races, many of them having a full grid of cars. Each of these races places you pretty far back the pack, which forces you to be very aggressive to be competitive and the AI drivers seem to be pretty aggressive as well. This FORCES you to get in accidents, which ends up costing more time or money waiting for car fixes or upgrades.

    - With Real Racing 2, you could backup your game in the cloud and reload it on any of your devices; with RR3, this is not possible, so you would have to start with a new character. You CAN restore your purchases, but not your character. So your racer may be different between devices. Or if you had to reload your phone you'd be out of luck for restoring the driver. So whatever work you put into your racer is only on one device and if you need to reload, all that work is gone.

    - No career mode or some sort of championship. It's just a bunch of several lap races. Can't change the number of laps.

    - You get so little reward money or gold coins that you can't continue acquiring upgrades or cars to be competitive in races. Which forces you to spend real money for the coin or money packages.

Now, I can't say I mind or don't mind the Freemium model, I do think the developers should get paid for their work, but at some time the pricing model for this game is just astronomically outrageous. I could see spending $60 to unlock the FULL game cars, tracks, etc; I think this would be MORE than fair. Additional content packs like cars, tracks or upgrades costing between $5-$10. The model they took for this game actually makes me so angry, that I don't want to spend a single cent for this and just race the crappy cars that I get by default.

It's REALLY frustrating dealing with the Freemium model that is currently being used in this game. I would hope that FireMonkeys or EA would not set out with the goal to frustrate the gamer as much as possible while playing their game, but that is exactly what they have done. I will play this game, but I will not spend ANY money on it, in its current form.

No, just mad over different things (notification spam, gold coins required to make cars actually, you know, competitive, gold coins needed for resprays). Timers are nearly as bad as they had been, though I suspect that as I get into higher tiers I may change my mind about that...

Not as upset about IAP because I refuse to spend money on them. I refuse to support this business model with my money. To prevent an urge to do so, I will also not spend any of these ridiculous gold coins. I downloaded a racing sim, not Farmville: Car Edition, and I will play it as such.

I could do that, but that will also turn off notifications telling me my car is ready... Due to these timers I am not just going to sit around waiting for my car to be repaired, serviced, or delivered. I'd rather have a notification telling me I can play again

I still think the decision to go freemium sucks, but the game is crazy fun. It would have been astronomically better without the involvement of EA, but as it is, it's quite fun and I'm sure I'll enjoy it for a while.

Big review there mate. People have mentioned the same points on previous pages and then others have fleshed them out or argued them. For the sake of trying to avoid repeating ourselves maybe check the last 10 pages then add any points of your own that aren't already on the table:)

As you play more, you'll realize that a lot of these gripes resolve themselves. Things are intimidating at first. If you like the gameplay, keep playing. You will be rewarded. If you think you'll bang this game out in a couple days and move on, you're wrong. To get everything will take months, and most of the time, you WILL NOT be waiting for repairs. Once you get some more cars, the game opens up dramatically. If you don't like the actual gameplay, may as well call it quits, because that doesn't change.

Yeah. That's interesting too how this has all evolved. I've mostly followed as a lurker. Connector has been observing from the sidelines like me though a little more vocal. It'll be interesting to read his feedback after spending some time with the game though.

My initial reaction was that its a shame it went freemium, especially since I don't buy IAP. But I'm mainly turned of by the gameplay descriptions. I play freemium stuff sometimes but it's typically more casual stuff.

    Anyway thanks for the reply.

Eli, I Would say like is perhaps a strong word, being content with is a better term. The freemium model is still ugly in places, visibly so at the beginning until you've played for a few days, wierdly, the game punishes casual players because the cars degrade at the same speed regardless of if you do five races in an hour or a day. If you can drain the use out of a car in one sitting and then toss it in for repairs, you get a better return time wise.

The issue with hackers and people gaming TSM to make it nigh impossible for legit players however is a big big problem, and needs solving sooner rather than later, failing that, they need to offer an option to disable tsm for people outside of your game centre friend list.

Yeah I was thinking about this aswell. Its interesting because there are no leaderboards. You have only your GC friends and randoms. The hackers might be out there already but we wont see them as there times will be so much better. They will be just competing amongst themselves. Its the shortcuts that need to be fixed. Maybe once you have gold on a event every race there after incurrs penalties when four wheels leave the track
