Good read and probably 100% true! Ill see how far i can get in the game or how long it will take till i'm fed up with RR3. But one thing is certain: they (EA/FM) will never get a penny from me and that's their own fault by making it freemium!!
I have no console nowadays, except for my new ipad with hdmi tv and wireless bluetooth joystick. Too bad I can't get my Gameloft duo gamer joystick to work with this game, cause it works so awesome with Asphalt 7. Too bad EA and Gameloft can't be friendly and share the same protocol, so it can be a standard for everyone including indies, so we can have a great dual analog joystick like the Gameloft duo is. Yeah, there has been a lot of contraversy here, much worse than Dead Trigger, but as we veterans know (especially for me cause I am President of the Defense Squad), it is best to quell counter opinion through civil conversations, much like our joking around in the Dead Trigger 2 thread. No need for arguements, no need for flaming, and if you disagree with someone, just post facts, or jokes. Or just ignore the comments, the more you fight haterz, the bigger the problem becomes, I get it all the time with being President of the Dead Trigger Defense Squad, but I fight it with humour, and facts when needed. Good to see you back, anyway, add me on gamecenter when you get it. Got a really funny gamecenter friend invite today, don't have any clue who it was cause it showed a real name, not TA handle, but it said, "Please accept me as a friend, el Mr. presidente..." So whoever it was here, it gave me a chuckle. So thanks!!!
Twenties, won't quote your whole review, but thanks!!! But is it really true that it will cost a gamer over $5,000 real US dollars to buy all cars and upgrades, unlocks, levels; to complete the game? I just can't believe it would be that high, I was thinking any freemium type game would have goals set to make it about $100-$200 to unlock most everything. Do you other players here agree that to unlock most everything, it would cost over $5000? If that is the case, it won't stay long on my new ipad especially with the disk space issues and all. I hope it's not that bad.
I have to disagree here. Your arguments are mostly subjective. I played over 20 hrs so far and completed 92 event, and unlocked the Porsche 918 RSR, and I did not spend for IAP yet. It is true that not spending to speed up repairs forces you to go back and forth between multiple events, but this is not that limiting. The recipe, I think, is to learn how to drive without any assists. This allows more control of your car and to be more aggressive in chicanes. Those who have completed RR2 without any assists will know this, and they will learn the tracks much more quickly than other players, getting them better results (jumping back and forth between tracks won't be much of an issue). Another trick is to learn to finish races with minimal damage, that means to learn how to drive. You won't always escape it (opponents will try to push in the Indianapolis walls to slow you down), but it is possible to avoid unnecessary risky situations and still get good results. EA said you can unlock everything without ever purchasing IAP, and I believe them. Completing each Series of events will award you 35 gold, every level up 3 (or 5 for at every multiple of 5). And since an achievement exists to achieve level 1000, this proves it is possible. Therefore, leveling up can get you past 3400 gold, and completing all 25 series will get you 875 gold, total of more than 4275. More than enough to unlock all cars and upgrades. But not if you spend it on repairs. It is obvious the game was designed to be played through, not bought. Buying IAP should be to help enjoy the game at beginning, but once you get a few cars, you don't really have to wait anymore. I am at 12 cars, and never waiting. Also, try not to focus on a single series, try to play many series in parallel. This is not a round-the-clock game. It is huge, and that makes it special. It is not perfect, but I think they did a great job at it. I think that if people understand the way the game was designed to be played, they can enjoy it without spending ridiculous amounts of money.
Agree with above. Spend what you think you would on a better looking sequel to RE2 on cars an never sweat on IAPs. You can do it for free, cheap or expensive. It's not really dictated. Brains are required for free though
Hehe, I hope not... Strange how it can go from black to white so easily in this thread. It's like people are playing totally different games or something sometimes. Too bad a lot of the more regular TA seniors aren't in here so we can get an honest perspective, but it must be that they want to keep out of all the arguements on here. Peace of mind I suppose.
Since RR2s release it remained the best racer on ios. This is a long time to remain a solid title. With the inclusion of TSM and the subsequent addiction to beating friends times there is infinite more replayabilty here all of which earns you cash and xp. Don't expect to go through and unlock all the cars and get 100% completion anytime soon. Some guys on here have solid garages already and it's only been out 5 days and haven't spent cash. Look at it long term
Agree. I have lobbed some $ at the IAP. A pack with extra cars so that I could rotate them. But since then, I don't need anything. I am at $480,000 R$ and 181 gold, and I haven't yet 100% finished a series. The timers aren't really an issue now.
I completely disagree here. Every time you race an event you get money for it, so you can grind and get enough money for new cars and updates. Of course, you won't be able to complete the game in 2-3 days, but what if you play for months? Maybe you're assuming that nobody will do so because the game's not good for you, but I'm enjoying the game a lot as it is (much more than RR2 TBH) and I might play for months. Have you checked the achievements? You can level up to level 1,000 if you're persistent enough. That means that you'll get at least 3,000 coins just by playing. And this amount doesn't include the levelling up multiple of 5, which gives 5 coins, nor the 25-50-75-100% completion of events, which also gives coins. This means you can buy all the coin-cars without paying a cent. Of course, it will take a huge amount of time to get there, but I'm not in a hurry and I want to continue enjoying the game, not achieve 100% completion in 24 hours
Played over the weekend and discovered: It is what it is. I enjoy the racing, the timers have made me wait a total of 15 minutes that I wanted to play. I won't spend money on it though, and I doubt I'll be the one to unseat the top racers here. I've got it, I enjoy it but I doubt I'll still have it when the actual release date hits.
Getting a lot of cars is easy, get all of them competitive is another thing! I have 8 cars now with 4 of them fully upgraded. Without upgrading them i could easely have 15 cars by now. I mean, what's the point if you have a lot of cars but none of them are able to win or even finish top 5. P.S. gold cost to get them (4 cars)fully upgraded was around 200 gold coins.
Dear RR3, I get it. I suck at this game. Please stop telling me every 5 seconds that someone beat my time...
A lot of this is misinformation. First off, having only 1 car at the start is a little lame but by no means crippling. It will take a few minutes to get another car, and after a day or two, you'll have enough to keep racing for quite a while. As you progress further, you DO NOT need IAP for success. You will be hampered by timers, but wrecking your car in the third race is no different than wrecking the same car in the twentieth race or the fiftieth race. It doesn't matter. The cost to fix it and the timer are the same, regardless of your progress. It is important to note that the higher end cars take longer to fix, but that's irrelevant to the game screwing people that opt out of IAP as you progress through the game. Conventional wisdom would dictate if you're in need of learning a track, maybe you shouldn't do it with a $500K car in deep in a series and instead try it out earlier in the 'career' in a race you've already completed. You're talking about spending $5K on this game? That's insane, and TOTALLY unnecessary. I can't even understand why you would bring this up. It's asinine. I've spent nothing and had almost a week of enjoyment, in spite of my loathing the direction this game went. I wanted to not like it, and I tried to not download it. I was wrong. With regards to content. Anyone that has ever played a racing game either gets fully immersed or gets bored. It's one or the other, and its pretty much always one or the other. Racing is racing. It's driving cars around tracks. If driving cars around tracks sounds boring, you'll probably get bored. If you're a racing game aficionado, you know what to expect and you'll likely enjoy 90% of what this game has to offer. Of course you'll be racing the same track more than once. Of course you'll be racing in the same cars more than once. Have you ever played a racing sim where this isn't the case? And finally, with regards to the concept of competition, the lack of leaderboards is an issue that should be addressed. Other than that, everything you mention is pretty par for the course. Hackers? They're everywhere. Show me a leaderboard that isn't hacked and I'll show you a game not worth playing. It's the nature of the beast, and if every quality title had to be ignored because someone hacked the leaderboard, there wouldn't be many games to play. People have been cutting corners on race tracks since the dawn of the genre. If you want to race clean, nothing is stopping you. Furthermore, there aren't any leaderboards...so why do you care? ---- I think, in spite of the amount of time you've already invested in this game, you had misguided expetations as to what to expect from it. I don't understand most of your gripes, especially considering you've played as much as you have. Are you familiar with Forza and GT? Are they series' that you played? A lot? Because all of the things you site as 'problems' are really just inherent in the genre. Completing racing games is a grind. I've put hundreds of hours into the FM series and still haven't 'completed' any of them. If you're a completionist, you'll have a challenge with this one...but if you like racing, this is the best title on the market, except for maybe RR2. Nothing else comes close.
This is valid and might be a sticking point if the TSM doesn't cater for upgrade variability. At the moment it obviously doesnt. I am interested that with another few million players data about to hit the servers that we may see more tiers within the comp. lets say a car has 20 upgrades. It's quite possible that with a large volume of players and an even larger amount of cars that we could see a tighter ranking system within that one model and upgrade level. We'll have to wait and see. You're right tho if it isn't addressed it could be another divisive factor come launch
No, that's ridiculous. Just play the game and don't worry about unlocking and upgrading everything. I don't understand why people are fixated on owning everything the game has to offer without putting in any work.
This is not a rant. As a fairly regular sr member here (though no where near as sr as those that have been here for years)... I have been reading the thread from time to time. I don't have a NZ account and don't really want one right now. I have plenty to play (plus I don't want to go delete a bunch of stuff to play this) and I can judge the game well enough from the sidelines to see this is pretty much a watered down experience from past premium racers To me, if I'm going to get into a sim the most important factors would be AI the other racers exhibit, the modes of play, and other details (like is the damage realistic?). Graphics including car models and sounds are good... but that's the icing on the cake and shouldn't be the measure of game quality. As it is, the damage cars get in this game seems unrealistic. Hitting a wall like in the TA Plays when Brad is trying to destroy his car should have killed the car. Instead, no problem. It looks bad but no where near as bad as it should. However the opposite is true too.. running over grass shouldn't cause so much damage to the underside of a car. If you watch any real road race event, corners get cut and the car doesn't end up needing repaired from that. Oil and Tires? Sure, those need attention... as do other moving parts... but damages just seem out of whack. It seems to force repairs so the player spends coins and if you want to continue with that car then you'll need gold or stop playing. So I think the freemium side of things has taken some away from the gameplay and appeal. I like that it seems to take the cars pretty seriously as far as stats and what one car can do versus another and how the track can throw a wrench into some of the pure statistical comparisons. But it sounds like despite that attention to detail, when it comes to races, you aren't racing real AI racers and the real world racers aren't ghosts but they do ghost like stuff since they can't fully react to you being there. I have to decide though weather to try this out in the ~9 days when it releases or let it go. As it stands, I'm curious but I don't want to just get it because of the hype since right now it doesn't sound like something that I'd fully enjoy more than just installing RR2 or really going to town cleaning up my iPhone so I can scratch my Bard's Tale itch.
Expect to be looking at the ass of the same 4-5 cars for ages. Or play NFS: MW. Or spend $5000. Another couple variables for people to marinate on I guess. Personally I have enjoyed learning the character of my cars and when I've finally got the upgrade I've been chasing I've noticed (in most cases) the difference. This ill admit is highly subjective but has worked for me. One thing I think that is coming out of the all the different POVs is that you NEED to play the game for a while and use your brain. You won't like it or give it a chance to be liked if you do neither. After time and strategy then make your decision
