There's tons of reasons, they could've been artificially limiting the amount everyone can play to slowly put load on their time shifted multiplayer servers. All I know is, The Firemonkeys are really smart game developers. I really doubt anything they're doing are off the cuff snap decisions. Keep in mind, the whole reason these limited region launch periods exist is for developer testing and tweaking- Not to just give New Zealanders a sneak peek at the game just because. People always seem to forget that!
I would think it is an off the cuff decision. They pushed their luck too far. Or probably this model was their backup for a situation like this. But I can almost guarantee they're not going to touch the timer aspect anymore. Next move must be making the AI more intelligent.
That is the key, as someone mentioned. If everybody that has downloaded RR3 and don't pay for iAP's, then EA is pretty much forced to restructure their pricing model, wait times. EA, I don't know what they were thinking?? They put out imo, the best game on iOS ( Dead space) that was brilliant in all regards, then they put out this beautiful mess?? C'mon EA get it together.
I've really enjoying this game. The TSM is a really cool innovation that I'm sure will soon be copied by other developers. The FTP system doesn't bother me at all especially now that you don't have to wait for repairs. I do wish I could hit repair all instead of having to tap each repair (maybe you can do this and I'm just being dumb). There's still so many things that make this a highly enjoyable experience, the base RR gameplay is still fun as heck, there's a crap-ton of events, tons of achievements, the list goes on. Oh and it runs silky smooth on my old iPhone 4 non-S. The timers do a good job of stopping you from playing hours on end, although once I've unlocked a few more cars that might not be the case. Kinda reminds of the Nintendo Wii telling you its time to take a break. Add me on gamecenter I need some TSM opponents. My name is Neehan.
It was the iron monkeys part of the current Firemonkeys studio that actually developed Dead Sapce for iOS. And many other brilliant games. There is an awful lot of talent under that one roof now.
My take on update: 1) EA/Firemonkeys were forced their hand. Why? I believe that the gold currency existed as a "impulse purchase" for users. You know, a one minute damage repair. Users have option wait or one coin. They were looking for this kind of "easy" money. Now, with instant repairs, they cannot make "impulse purchases" from consumers. 2) Do not get your hopes all high. There is yet a chance that repair timers might return, as easily as they vanished.
I guess you could thank The Firemonkeys' beta rollout of this game preparing its infrastructure for its international launch and tens of millions of people stressing their servers?
I'm not, at all. You're only reading it that way because I am not banging the "#### EA" drum with everyone else.
That, or you could always go with the whole "Occam's Razor" thing, which in this instance seems painfully obvious to even the casual observer with no real stake in the outcome. DBC
Well, tweaking timers is not nearly enough to make this a proper racer. TSM should just be a mode, not the main career mode it is now. My guess is they will build in a real multiplayer mode, may this be at worldwide launch or later. The lack of a descent career mode with practice sessions ,qualifying and a descent IA make it anything but Real Racing. It's pretty hard to make that up between now and worldwide launch.
I have read at two separate places that the timers for repairs are back. My iPad is not with me. Can anyone confirm this?
Ok. I have Real Racing 2 on the ipad and just purchased it again to use on my 5th gen iPod touch. I don't mind some dlc in games but I don't agree with the Buisiness model for RR3 or any other games that adopt it for that matter. Ill not be downloading it. I would however pay a premium price for the game if it was decent.
