All the things wrong with RR3 that AREN'T to do with freemium...

I've spent a while with RR3 now and IAP aside it's fun enough, but there is quite a lot wrong with it. Here's just the stuff I've noticed, feel free to add more:

AI? That would imply there was some I. These are just like solid ghost cars - they follow the race line rigorously and don't care who's in the way. Pity those who get caught trying to overtake at Indianapolis on the outside. Also, all the AI over brakes. It makes head to heads pointless - you overtake on the first or second bend and that's it, job done.

Is it just me, or does TSM not work? I just seem to have the same bunch of ineptly named 'pretend real people' to race against. And yes the iPad is connected to the Internet. (*cough* most of the time...)

Elimination. Usually quite fun, but there are a couple that even with a fully upgraded car I can't reach the first corner (and therefore overtake due to the AI over braking!) before the 20 seconds is up. Guess you need a fully upgraded FASTER car, which is, well, lame.

A minor thing, but those flags over the cars? Ugly as f*** guys. Really.

REAL Racing huh? How come no qualifying laps? Why do I have to start every race from the back? If that wasn't the case, Maybe the 'AI' wouldn't have to be so poor to allow you to overtake the entire pack in 3 laps.... jus sayin.

Why no 'Repair All' button? Why are the buttons all so shit and glitchy? It's as if we weren't pissed enough at the IAPs, you had to rub everyone's noses in it, by making the process annoying.

Why are some cars always all the same colour in a race? I respray to stand out - I don't want all the other ford focuses to be green too ffs! Note, isn't all cars, just some.

All the cars seem to handle pretty much identically. Sure, some are faster, or have better brakes, but the actual handling is identical.

No replays. WTF? Best looking iOS game to date and no replays to show it off! Major fail.

That's all I can think of right now, but overall, not massively impressed, even without the freemium issues...

"EA" can easily change it's name in "EAP"; Expensive App Purchase...
    :D

  3. Yeah, I am glad Gameloft learned from that and so far lately I have been really happy especially Asphalt 7 which is free right now. It had a great entry price of only one buck, and the inapps were not offensive at all. And it was a great game.

EA, I am very leary of. Lots of crap games like Madden or tiger woods on ios. Then this fiasco from them about RR3. And the terrible job they have done with Chillingo. Chillingo was one of the best publishers out there for puzzle games. Now all they seem to want to produce is endless runners with inapps and early adopter blues like crazy. Why even buy a game from them, they all go free in a month. Way to treat loyal early adopters like us.

TA people seem to constantly criticize Gameloft and put EA on a pedestal, but is not right. Yeah, I might seem to fight for the underdogs sometimes, but at least Gameloft is trying and Asphalt 7 and Wild Blood have been hugely GREAT games.

EA games? Wait timers, inapps, garbage. So sad what they did to one of my favorite line of games RR3. So sad, but greed rules.

The problem with TSM is not just balance. For me my biggest gripe is that there is no interaction on the track. You can never have a real battle with an opponent so it's just a matter of who has the fastest car and just follow the ideal line. Never will a car really try to overtake me,nor will i be blocked. Either they ram into me or they just follow their lines and i pass 'm by on speed, not skill.
That's not a dynamic AI. Far from it. All you do is drive somewhat adjusted timelaps. With shelled ghosts. It's fine that you're having fun with it,but it's not a dynamic AI.

  5. Yeah, that I do agree. I will always highly support Indies who make a lot of great games. EA has always been known as a bad company on ios. Fire Monkeys was the best thing going for them. And EA had destroyed the publica trust in Fire monkeys. So sad cause I have always liked firemonkeys.

Zynga, everyone seems to hate. But i hope all of you out there think good of Gameloft. They are the only beacon of light out there for us ios gamers that want console games. There Gameloft duo gamer joystick another tech demo works great, super great.

We must support indies, but we still need console like games, and Gameloft is still the major player out there even though there are a lot of TA haterz out there of Gameloft. But it is unfair.

  6. Yeah, you got a point, don't update to prevent the time wait hack. But us in the US will have no choice. And I wonder if they can somehow lock you out of the hack even without an update.

All 3 threads on Real Racing 3 have been and always will be rant threads cause that is what people think about the game. The rant thread is actually the most civil threads with some people having very some good discussions and humour. It'll be even worse once it releases in the US. If almost everyone is unhappy at that launch, this thread will be the most hated thread of all time.

Edit: there is now one more RR3 hate threads, so four hate threads now.
    Sigh...

So true... It's so sad to see economics models like this one. It would never happen 10 or 20 years before. This is a good thing, in a particular angle, because i'll never buy any EA games in the future. How can a man have such a bad idea...

I'll support indies more than before. I was playing only on my pc before, and became tired of those big games, always the same. I came to ios, and discover a lot of new games, real games like in the past, made by little companies. And i play again!

I love ios for those little inventives games. I hope EA and others will never destroy ios games with their terrible way of sight.

Sorry for my bad english. And thanks for letting us talking about such important things.

I think some of the glitchy things you mentioned are part of the reason they introduced the game a few weeks early in a limited number of countries, to make sure those are ironed out quickly. Also, I'd imagine the TSM will get better after the 28th when the whole world is playing.

As for the other parts... I haven't played it, so what do I know?

    Just to let you know.....
THEY TWEAKED THE REPAIR TIMES :D
Oil change was 15 minutes = now 5 minutes
Tyres was 30 minutes = now 10 minutes
    And so on...

And who said they didn't care about our opinion :D
If we keep bashing them a little bit more, the timers are history :p

  12. Completely agree.

TSM for me, as said before, is actually something I do like in the game. BUT, it's not implemented to it's full potential. To an extent, it helps give the illusion the player is actually racing against other players, not just "bots". When you overtake one of your GC friends, there's a certain sense of "Yes! That'll show 'em!". However, you know it isn't the actual driving line they took and of course there is the clearly obvious lack of AI with theirs and all the other cars on the track. They're trying to give you the sense that you're driving against others, but without that AI (that should allow them to try and not let you overtake, but not ram you into the barriers as this would damage their own car, etc etc) the illusion is not successful.

  13. I agree with you. I knew this would happen. There are now 4 rant threads. The truth will always come out. I too think it would have been better to have one more negative thread than 4 hate threads. Anyway, it is getting confusing reading all these hate threads.

I really think it is best just to put everything in one thread at this point, but just my humble opinion.

Really? I just fully serviced + repaired my new Porsche 4.0 and it was "only" 3 hours. I was expecting 10+ hours.

If yes, how did it come to effect? I didn't even update the game!!

  16. Yeah agree 100%, EA take out the wait timers or we will boycott all your games. That is what we really need to do, let them squirm for their buck. Since it is obvious they don't care about us gamers.

Boycott EA unless they stop putting wait timers in their games. I am serious. I will never play games with wait timers. Can't believe some old timers on Toucharcade would support stuff like this.

  17. Mine is still showing 15 mins for oil change etc

You cant really blame EA for wanting to make profit but i think they chose wrong game for a freemium. Just looking at top 100 grossing list it doesnt seem like it could compete with all those social/card games. Then again i might be completely off here and we never really had freemium game of this quality.

Some years back, I played this game called Dead Space on my iPad. I have heard rumours that the second one will be coming soon. From Firemonkeys. From EA.

What are the odds that there are timers there too?

    From Pocketgamer:

There's also the Zonda R, which costs 400 gold (£34.99 / $69.99). Michael De Graaf, the game's associate producer, personally assured me that this is the best car in the game.

I am thinking that besides Bathurst, top speed is really not important in the game. Especially as you get to the really fast cars. You want acceleration, braking power and traction more.
