The sad thing is, like CSR Racing, there's a genuinely good game and concept lurking in there. The execution and sheer greed on the part of the developers though destroyed it for many people, and RR3 seems to be on the same trajectory.

  2. Well i've tried to set up a NZ account but it keeps asking for a credit card and don't know how to skip that without putting in my details (which i'm reluctant to do).

If I can't set up a NZ account, I'll be waiting for it to arrive in the UK and will definitely be downloading it and trying for myself, despite the moans on here and everywhere else.

I know I will only be playing it for a quick 10 minute play here or there, so it should be just fine for me. Really not a fan of waiting 6 hours for a service mind. I suspect it will be better once I own more than one car. I am quite prepared to spend a few pounds on a pack if I like the game enough, to get me started.

What concerns me more is the poor UI. In reality racers would not be smashing into you as though you aren't there if they'd have to wait for repairs the same as you. So they shouldn't, simple as that.

Is there an add-me thread for this game somewhere already?

I'm enjoying the games TSM system and would like to race more of you.

Btw, I think you have to beat tracks on gold first to be able to race better ghosts in TSM. At least it says so before you start a race.

I don't consider it greedy so much as a necessity. Piracy and $.99 gamers are the reason why multi-million dollar games like this aren't financially viable as a premium title.

But knowing it doesn't make me feel any better about it.

Set up an account without payment options - sign out of your current account, then attempt to download a free app. When iTunes asks you to sign in, creat a new account instead and there will be an option to have no payment options.

Other than the dumb AI I really like the gameplay too. Luckily, I haven't had any issues with super tricked-out opponents yet despite it being a complaint that's cropped up a few times. The physics feel decent, not exactly Forza-level, but enough to call the game a sim and that's what I was after. One tiny aspect I'm not keen on is the damage sounds, the effects don't seem very well-suited to the collision. Earlier I tapped a car with my bumper and was treated to a nice long sound of scraping paint which seemed to go on for about three times as long as my contact with the other car did.

All in all I wouldn't deem it necessary to moan about the gameplay itself. Had this been a premium title I would gladly have coughed up $10. If the App Store wasn't a disastrous mess of cheap games and constant sales I'd have thought $20-30 was a good price for the game.

With all the complaining I think I will go multiplayer and smash into everyone and cost you real money. Might make this fun!

  8. Ahh, thank you :) I tried to just set up a NZ account without selecting a free app, and that was where I had no option for None as payment method.

No, I'd say it's greed still, necessity might force developers to go freemium, but it's entirely up to them what sort of model they employ, this one is aggressive, persistent and incredibly mean spirited. It is designed first and foremost to extract money from the customer, as opposed to offering an option to up sell the game as a means of supporting the developers.

There is no multi right now.

There are also no replays of a race which is a shame, I love watching them in RR2

I disagree with this opinion. Haven't you come across times where the first few cars just streak ahead?

Also, what TSM does is regulate the time. That's all. So if it took A 1m54s to finish a lap, they spread it out like that. The driving lines however is decided by the CPU using calculation. Notice they all take the same line basically. Also notice that the cars NEVER go off track. If they followed the real trajectory of the players, cars will be flying off course every so often.

I say it again. I want real AI.

I'd call it half and half. For smaller developers on iOS it might be a necessity, but EA aiming to bring the model to -every- platform sounds a lot like greed to me.

Two or three of my posts referring to the damage names in the game (spark plug leak, air vent block etc) have been deleted as well. Why?

I cannot agree any more with your assertion of the game.

  15. The thing is with other people having much faster upgraded cars being impossible to beat- I don't mind this so much. From what I've seen, even coming 8th etc you still earn money and still get chance to beat some other racers surely? I won't expect to come first every time- i'll be happy so long as I don't come last :D

Before playing the game, my opinions from what I've read are they definitely need to give you more for your IAP's (or charge less), remove (or reduce the time of) the need for servicing your cars, and do something with the over-aggressive "AI".

Downloading now though, so will see if I still agree with any of that and can add any more points after a good play. I'm willing to give the game a shot and see. Not going to blindly refuse to download because of other comments.

Couldn't agree any less. The more I play, the more I see a "pay2win" element as well. Sheesh.

This game is a gamers worst nightmare. Brilliant gameplay marred by a totally atrocious design.

What I find very disappointing is that there is no practice area. I like racing games but am not very good and I need to practice the tracks to know when the brake and what the right speed is. This game doesn't allow me to get to know the tracks like I want to. I can just race before having to wait for the timers to reset.

I've just raced a head to head game with my almost fully upgraded Ford Focus RS. I had all the assists on and my opponent won with a 1 mile lead. Not fun if you can't practice to get any better.

Is there any official documentation on how the AI actually works in RR3? WIll really appreciate it.

    Thanks!
