Have a look at the few pages preceding, and following this post as a start: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?p=2675526#post2675526 (Of course, with the thread split in two this may now prove more difficult.)
This post made me laugh so much. Did you actually read that first sentence to yourself before stating the rest of it?
Does anyone with the game know how long you can play for unhindered, if you have £40 worth of IAP coins? Could you finish it?? If not then it's a bit steep, but otherwise, getting a game of that quality and being able to play it for free (as many users will) is amazing. If you'd rather have paid up front for it, buy a larger coin pack, play it to death and if you don't think they've offered value when that runs out, complain and ask for a refund. #small rant, developer hat on# Having said that, I find it a little objectionable that games made with clearly extensive budgets are going free. The more they do, the less room there is for smaller developers who can no longer charge anything for their games (as compared to what you can get for free, they offer less in terms of production value) and are generally just upstaged, out promoted and see opportunities for app store feature spots dry up as the bigger boys take them all. Part of me wishes that noone at all would pay anything via IAP in Free games of this level, and force the larger publishers to charge a reasonable cover price for their wares. That way a legitimate price-to-production budget scale can let everyone find their level and the smaller developers, who largely built the AppStore, won't be quite as squeezed into "make freemium work or die" mentality. #back to gamer mode# it does look gorgeous and I look forward to playing it.
I went back and read some previews of RR3 from the other day before the NZ release and read this on IGN: http://uk.ign.com/articles/2013/02/12/hands-on-with-real-racing-3s-freemium-future "Real Racing 3's in-game store includes a variety of car and currency packs. They are subject to change, but I spotted one $0.99 Starter pack that gives players a second car and a handful of money. A $9.99 pack (the same cost as RR1 and RR2) gives gamers one car of every class, unlocking a huge variety of race events, and a pile of money big enough to skip many repair times." These packs do not currently exist in the game we are all playing, in fact there is no 99c IAP anywhere in the game, even the lowest price coin pack is double that. There is also no IAP which gives you a car of each class either, closest to that is 3 supercars and some coin for something like $15. It's either EA being sneaky and showing off better deals to previewers or they changed it thinking it was giving away too much, this is EA after all...

I know about that mate, but this happened just few minutes ago. They keep deleting posts from this thread...this reminds me 1984.
Well, firstly let me say thank you for your feedback. All opinions are greatly appreciated and given the exact amount of attention they deserve. Hopefully this will aid in speeding up my cheque. Secondly, if you believe that you are entitled to express an opinion of your own, and I can only assume by your own posts that is what you believe, well then by default I am also entitled to my own opinion and to express it. Thirdly, if you actually read the post, I use "I" a lot. Which carries with it the obvious implication that it is my own personal experience of the game up to this point. If it differs from your own experience, well then that's fine. Each and every person experiences things differently and equally entitled to their own opinion. Fourth and almost finally, as it is the game impressions thread, that is quite simply all I was doing, sharing my own impressions of the game. If you actually read the post, I don't overtly praise the game, I merely share that I'm not hitting a problem in relation to iap or wait times. I simply can't buy iap on it yet and in my personal experience, having a second or third car negates the waiting period effectively enough for it not to have an effect on my particular gameplay patterns. If it affects your own, well then, you know what, I'm sorry to hear that. If you want to rage away on the game and the pricing policy, well there's a thread for that as well, so everybodys particular criticism or raging policy is catered for by the forum. If you want to rage away on my opinion, feel free, it doesn't particular matter or affect the game or its pricing in any way either. However it would be nice in a games impressions thread to actually have game impressions and that is all I was simply trying to contribute to that. Again, thanks for your feedback, I will most certainly give it the appropriate consideration.
With all the,in my eyes ,justified complaints over the pricing model the game itself is just not very good. Even the little time i can actually race i'm constantly wondering why i even bother. No interaction on the track. No slipstreaming. No AI. No skill involved. The RR franchise was the best sim racer on the platform Ofcourse you can say there are plenty of other games to enjoy, and that's true but there is not really another good sim racer. I enjoy NFS and Asphalt but those arcade racers are a totally different breed. I and many others were pretty psyched to get our hands on a new episode and we were dissapointed. There's a lot of talk about being reasonable and rational, but passion evoces emotion. Most racers,in real life and digital life are pretty passionate about their hobby. Therefore i'm not suprised to see these reactions even if i don't agree all the time with how they're vocalised.
Yes, there is: http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=115305&highlight=Driving+Speed Vastly superiour in every way save graphics.
I'd love to post a detailed response but to be honest, it'd simply just be too much hard work to deal with the flames afterwards. The easiest thing is to say that all your pro and con points are actually perfectly valid and very accurate. The AI/tsm, I can't really quite decide if its dynamic or not. There is definite flashes of brilliance in it but there is also dramatic moments of unbalancing. The no qualifying is definitely an issue so far but I'm unsure as to whether it comes into it later on or not because it wasn't across the board in RR2 so I'm simply assuming that it comes in at a later stage in the game. Of course, that assumption could very be wrong, just have to get further to find out. The narrow tracks are really only prevalent on street tracks, Melbourne one in particular is very narrow and nigh on impossible to overtake. Silverstone, Nurburgring and some others not so much. Cost of upgrades, yes too high. But in saying that I do have one fully upgraded car and one half upgraded so not hitting a wall there really. Buts that's simply down to replaying older events that I either have not got gold on or in order to compete against gamecenter friends which does give reasonable bonuses. That can easily be considered grinding and to many it will be, but I enjoy a good ole race so my perception of it is obviously different. I would also consider that similar to just quick play, but again that's just me. Fuel pump, spark plug and the like, yes, a tad annoying all right. I'm sure its considered tying in to the "real" part of the title but a little less frequently would be nice. No real multiplayer as you said, self explanatory. For me personally, the timer is the single most irritating aspect of it. That combined with the cost of gold causes it to be very restrictive initially. But again, having 3 cars now has negated that particular problem for me. Of course it could also be down to the fact that I'm looking at it in a semi rpg long term way and considering my cars well being during the race and considering the next race. Of course that might be counter to a balls out racing experience but NFSMW covers that type of racing quite well. I think, maybe, they were going for some kind of rpg element in order to make it realistic. Of course, the period of time is ridiculous and should be concurrent as opposed to consecutive repairs. But nothing's perfect really. And funnily enough, despite attempting to write a short reply when starting, I dont seem to have achieved that. Oh well. Essentially I don't actually disagree with any of your points really, I think you wrote a very accurate and balanced impression. I suppose I'm just looking at the game differently and having a slightly different experience because of that. (Please people don't flame on it, its only an opinion and one individual impression, everybody else's is equally as valid if that is their own experience of the game)
That may be but i can't play tilt only games due to my shoulder problem. So let me rephrase: there's not really another sim racer that has touch controls on this platform. I was really dissapointed that i could not play it. Thanks anyway for pointing it out Gabrien.
Ah, so that's where all the posts went. I'm disappointed a mod deemed it fit to place my post about ads in there. Lots of people don't like ads in games and up to this point, barely anyone has mentioned them in RR3, but they do exist. I think it's a helpful bit of information and worthy of this discussion.
Well, back to the game itself, I've been playing more of it and it truly is a grind - I can see how one would be very disappointed after waiting months for this. If the system was fairer, if there was a one-time $10 IAP to forgo wait times, if gold was only used for speeding up waif times and not for paint jobs and buying cars, if there wasn't a car that costs $100 real moeny worth of ingame gold, I could see myself sinking hours into this. But never, ever in its current state. It just isn't fun. What's a shame is that the game itself is really good - the damage model, especially, is a ton of fun and very detailed. I like the idea of having to repair my car after damaging it. What's even more of a shame is that we'll probably only be seeing more instances of great franchises go F2P.
