The issue with most freemium games is not the pricing. It's the fact that they are not real games. They are fake games. The reason I would not spend any money on Six Guns was because it wasn't really a game. If RR 3 is a legit game, then why wouldn't you pay for it?
told you... when the first videos i commented the AI looks more like a train from the days of gran turismo i had played against a freind who i know had won the same race i was taking part him but AI started him at the back with me, i just manage to get around him due to my driving style of not going hell to leather into a corner but picking movements to over take to save my car after all in Real Life racing you dont see drivers crashing into each other every few seconds. When i first heard about this wait and repair i myself thought boooo bad but then i stepped back and thought about it and changed my view. The game is Free to play great, so if you dont like it after you tried it then you can delete it instead of say using $4.99 to start with or what every price the first 2 where. Of course being Free still means they got to get back the cost of making the game some how. Then there is the cost of the server(s) that be holding our times and matching us up they dont run on free air. Ok so you hate the Free to Play but instead you willing to pay upfront how much would you be willing to pay $.99 $4.99 or how about spending $20.00 after all its a AAA title. Ok maybe $20.00 is extreme edge so lets go with $4.99 after the big rush of buying the title the sales drop but the cost of running the servers still the same.... how do they cover the cost then??? Ok lets do a sell but hang that then pisses off the people that brought the game full price and feel cheated and the sale price per person wont cover the cost of the servers.... So no matter what the developers do they are not going to please everyone all the time..... But lets hear from you HOW much would you pay then for the game instead of free to play?
Hey guys! Did you know that there are other games on the AppStore besides RR3? I know it's a bit of a shock, but if you don't like an iOS game, you can always move on to one of the other hundreds of thousands!
What if you had been anticipating this game for nearly an year?! What if you were anticipating playing this on your brand new iPad 4?
So? I have been anticipating NOVA 3 for a long time. Waiting for MC4. Sometimes we just gotta move on. Why can't this thread be more friendly like in the MC4 thread? Bye now.
You can also have a voice and express displeasure. I know a lot of the time we can't make much of a difference when it comes to the big wigs, but every now and then a news story hits that damages their reputation a little and they take note (Mass Effect 3, Final Fantasy XIV). There's no harm in trying to raise awareness about how unhappy people are with the route gaming has taken, and if it has to look like childish kicking and screaming to some people then so be it. Sounds like you're the one that isn't interested in the subject, so don't take part. We are interested however, so we take part. Is that somehow offensive to you?
I have But here's a thought: take that shiny new iPad, and go download NFS: MW. It looks just as impressive and is $.99 with no pay wall. Then pick up Asphalt 7 for free, also no paywall. Then go ahead and download Infinity Blade 1, also free, also no pay wall. After you have finished with those three spectacular titles, report back and I will give you three more great games to be had on iOS. The Real Racing series isn't the only fish in the pond. Come on. This is really ridiculous, in some ways worse than the Dead Trigger thread. People are just flipping over a stupid game, hundreds of completely off topic and flaming posts were removed and put in a serperate thread. I'm annoyed too, but geez. Ever heard of obsessing over something?
Game Impressions My thoughts: I'm quite enjoying the actual gameplay, the physics and the car damage, so far. I would rather have paid a premium price to not have to deal with all the IAP and currency rubbish. However, as others have said, once you have more than one car, the pain is a little easier to bear. I can see the comparisons to CSR, however, firstly CSR quickly became stale because no matter what you upgraded your car to/with, the gameplay was basically exactly the same. Secondly, I never ever purchased any currency via IAP in CSR. I have no intention of doing so in RR3, we'll see how far I get before that becomes a frustration. This business model just doesn't work with people like me. At the end of the day, I was planning to pay a premium price for this game. As it happens, I don't have to pay a penny (and I'm in the UK and shouldn't even have the game yet). A lot of the comments on here seem like the 'instant gratification brigade' crying because they can't play a free game for hours on end. Personally I think it's a real shame that the devs went down this route, but I can see why they did. Anyway, so far, it's quite a good game, the tracks are great, and yeah it is frustrating to wait, but it's free so never mind.
I had been waiting for RR3 too. I am interested, just not sure why you guys are always complaining about the iAP. We get it, it's terrible. And the timers.
I don't know why you're so shocked. Everyone with an ounce of business sense knew that F2P was eventually going to take over more ad more franchises, for better or worse. Oh and MW runs at retina on the iPad 4, just like RR3. IMO with the radial blur it looks better. I certainly prefer arcade racing, and the physics are a lot more fun
I will be the last person to sing the praises of an IAP model like this. I think it tarnishes the legacy of the Real Racing series. I would even tip toe near the land of hyperbole and say that this specific game may be looked at in the future as the benchmark of where things truly began to go wrong in iOS gaming. So, I feel that my opinions (which are worth very little to anyone other than myself, BTW) are perfectly clear. That being said, I need to echo Metalcasket's earlier sentiment. This thread is making me feel like this community is devolving. I love TA. Obviously I do because I've spent a considerable amount of my time here, posted many, many things, and have been given the privilege to help moderate the forums. I'm really disappointed with the laziness of many of the dissenting views. There are so many cogent arguments against this system that could (and should) be made, but they're going to get lost in the morass of this sewage thread. I suspect that my post will as well, but I just felt the need to rally especially the long time members to bring the level of discourse up to the levels that have kept us here for so long.
Do you think this forum is the only place where people are making a fuss? The story is spreading, EA's forums and Facebook pages are getting hit with complaints, other websites are writing articles dedicated to the issue and it even made its way onto the website of a major UK national newspaper. This isn't just another developer releasing a game with some crappy consumables, this is EA taking a massive step forward in creating bad games that are in danger of taking the entire industry to a place nobody wants it to go. Like it or not, it's not just a minor forum rant, it's news. Besides, I'm aware there are other games, I've been playing them (solidly, I might add, with no wait times), but this is the topic that has me interested right now because I'm concerned my hobby is on the decline.
But we are supposed to be a good forum. It's just an excuse, right? Okay, okay, facebook and others are important. But we are TA. The place to go for iOS gaming. Would you people to view us like those irritated people? No offense if any is taken. We still have RR2.
http://www.appspy.com/review/6723/real-racing-3 I think that appspy video review described the pathetic IAP system in this game, tho the way they described it at the end, seemed more like a 2/5 game than a 3/5 they gave it. Real Racing 3 is nothing but a shame and a good example of how to ruin the gameplay with a horrid IAP system.
Honest suggestion: if you haven't done so already, go through the early parts of the thread, (well, two threads now) and witness who has been most responsible for "stirring the pot." I believe you are intelligent enough to not miss it if you just open your eyes. There are many, many things going on here that aren't solvable with all the good will in the world.
I'll be perfectly honest with you, I haven't tried to do a comprehensive reading of the threads because just the bits and pieces that I've read have been exhausting and frustrating. I'll take your suggestion to heart though and try to delve in a bit more.
Alright. Now that someone actually posting something coherently logical and not a hyperbole we can start to have a discussion. First of all, do you really think EA gives a rat's ass if people are pissed? What matters is that this game, just like DS3's microtransactions, will make lotsa cash. They've been pissing off consumers for YEARS. That said... Yes, this is what concerns me far more than any one game. It's a sign of F2P becoming more and more mainstream, and this was easily a multi-million dollar game. Big bananas. If it turns out to make boatloads of cash, it's a guarantee that other big developers/publishers like Gameloft, Chillingo, etc will turn more and more if not completely to freemium. Consider this...testing the waters, so to speak. I'm not pleased at all with what's happening, but I also can't change it. If timers and paying $100 in real money for an ingame car really does become prevalent, I'm leaving iOS as a gaming platform.
You know what else is news? This is. I've been a member of TouchArcade for close to 3 years now. I'd been lurking for a year before that. I would've chopped my arm off to be a moderator on this forum and people can attest to that. Like Sizzla, I love this place...and that is the image I want people to get of this site and forum? It's embarrassing beyond words. This thread is pathetic. As far as posting is concerned, I'm done with this thread.
