    It is. Fully synchronous.
Depending on the back end method employed it can allow anywhere between 4 to 16 players.
There are restrictions and different options.

The standard gamecenter Peer to Peer option allows only four players.

The hosted option, ie if the developer implements their own back end servers to supplement Apples gamecenter servers, it can go up to a maximum of 16.
That max number never really happens (can't think of one of the top of my head but there must be one or two out there) because it can be glitchy and a bit unreliable with those numbers so generally when this is the method, developers go with an up to an 8 player max. It just depends on the developer, the structure and of course costings.

It also very much depends on their back end structure but considering the number of players on TSM and the server demands (and astronomical costs) that causes, 8 is the likely option at the beginning.
That's not a given though as they are keeping the details under their hat at the moment so only take it as an indication, not a guarantee.

Its unlikely that they will limit themselves to the standard peer to peer of 4 players but its certainly possible that the initial numbers be low until they get server loads and stresses up to speed and then move up to the higher numbers of players per race as servers stabilise.
Assuming of course they use the hosted option but they have a server structure in place already for TSM so I imagine they will use that existing infra structure at some stage.

We will know pretty soon though. :)

Third option is based on turn based games and doesn't really apply to this one so I won't waste your time by putting in the details.

There are other considerations such as matchmaking, friend requesting, interface model and so on and so forth but I won't bore ya with the details. As long as you have a Game Center account logged in, it'll work away.
Note that gamecenter multiplayer always takes time to sort itself out when it first hits with a game so do expect some issues (not serious ones, just bedding in ones in a way) in the first couple of days.

Either way, you can be sure you, me and Wedge are going to be seeing a lot more of our avatars on track :). Looking forward to that.
Although I must confess to being a bit concerned about having my ass handed to me by you two as I am a bit out of practice.

Edit. Oh and @Wedge, nice last post (well, second last one really). Made a whole lot of sense and a very fair post.

Glad to hear about new update with multiplayer. But now imagine money cheaters that actually race as good as me having that much of an advantage... I hope the developers set multiplayer in such a way that it can be fair for everyone. For example, if a cheater has a maxed out car it wouldn't matter since default settings of a car will only be allowed in multiplayer. In other words, all races in multiplayer voids all upgrades given in career mode and keeps it basic. Wouldn't this be fair and keep everyone happy?

It's gonna be interesting... For sure, I am a bit nervous as to what parts of my body will get served up to me :)

Quite honestly I don't see myself using the synchronous multiplayer much. I tend to get pretty annoyed with the juvenile mentality of online racing. It would be fun to race with you guys if we can arrange to hook up.

I agree. It would be nice in an environment where you know the people you are racing but not random racers. In real racing you can get penalized for unsportsmanlike behavior like running someone off the track and driving off track. What's to prevent someone from using my car as their brake by broadsiding me on turn two at Laguna Seca?

Love that they keep updating the game though! I'm just ticking along on my way up the scale. Currently at 519 Gold and 99% on Supercar Masters Series without having spent one gold coin. Laguna Seca is kicking my butt with the Audi. Sure wish that the $ upgrades had more acceleration since I can't get out of turn 2 anywhere higher than 12th place in the grid. Grind grind grind...

Hopefully there will be a way to choose race opponents. I'm a bit like you wedge, never really bothered with multiplayer races cause you either have to be fully upgraded or it's a crash fest.. Hopefully with the right racers it'll be a hoot!

Well, my plan is only to ever race you guys that are on the friends list.

As only one of my cars is fully upgraded, a Ford focus for some reason I can't quite explain and the others are very middle range or lower, I've no real interest in being trashed by iap hackers with fully upgraded cars.

However, racing you guys will be necessary. It is time we found out who is the true king:)

(I know that one is going to come back and bite me)

Anyone know which Ferrari to upgrade in the "Spirit of Ferrari" to hit the PR requirements? Looks like the GTO over the Enzo which seems odd... Thanks

I haven't gotten that far into the Ferrari series yet.. I would have thought it was the Enzo, but perhaps not.

Do you know the bone stock PR rating on the GTO? The Enzo is 45.2 but I already upgraded the GTO so I can't really compare the two. Thanks.

GTO stock is 47.4, so it's already ahead of a stock Enzo....

    Best race for 100% bonus

What race do you guys use to cash in on your daily 100% bonus?

I'm currently using the Spa Cup in tier 16 of the Supercar Master Series, using a souped up Audi R8.

With the 100% bonus and the 2x bonuses from the managers, I get 76.000 R$ and 6.000 fame for a six-minute no sweat race (I pass the leader early in lap 2 of 3 and end with a comfortable 10-second margin).

    Anything better?

I use the Bathurst 5 lap race, tier 16 in the GT3 series, using the Nissan GTR. With the manager and Bonus I get $109,000 for the win plus a clean race bonus of about &13,000, and double Fame nets 10,000.

I'm confused about what series you mean, as there's no Nissan in the GT3 World Cup. Did you mean GT1? Is it the Sumo?

Yeah sorry, I did mean GT1 (it's early here, my brain is still warming up), but the other GTR, not the Sumo.
