Wait till you see the injustice. Fast cars trampling the earlier events in a cup. Will make you cry and be sad at the same time.
Hi all! Quick question, I created a NZ apple id to download this but play it through my usual gamecenter. When I try to buy an IAP (highly contentious I know!) it won't let me even though the currency is shown in my local £, it says I have to buy it through the id I bought the game with, though I selected no payment method as its not my country. Does anyone happen to know if I delete this version and download the uk one when that is released will my progress still remain as I'm linked to it through gc? P.S I absolutely hate the pay structure for this, I just love decent iPad games though, thought I'd buy a cheap pack and give it a go, see how far I can get with a bit of patience. maybe when I have more cars I can switch them instead of waiting for repairs?
As a person who played probably well above 40-50 hours of RR2 and really enjoyed 1, this game is broken at its core. You see, the issue here is that all events are time shifted multiplayer. Now that would be fine if the game was paid with NO IAP's or maybe some ones for just money. With this F2P crap, that just means people are gonna buy the best car for the event, upgrade it to hell and post an insane time you'll never beat. It's already happening and the game is available in 3 countries. I'm very disappointed at this decision, besides the frame rate on iPad 3 isn't that amazing either. While the graphics look great, it doesn't help the overall broken concept. Basically it's like constantly trying to be no1 in Game Center leader boards, the first tens of people are hackers and the rest paid to win. This game is going to suck you dry if you actually don't like losing all the time.
When I was logged in via my NZ account, the game showed IAP prices in NZD. When I switched back to my UK App Store account the in-game prices changed to GBP. You say it won't actually let me purchase any until I have the UK version of the game? I thought an iOS game was an iOS game.
Same for me, prices changed to NOK. I won't buy anything to check if it works though, EA can eat sh..
Also, every race I've had so far has had actual people/users faces above the cars. These are not friends, they're complete strangers and not UI cars.
I do. It's horrible. Somebody just was 1 mile ahead of me in a duel race. Nice matching! And ofcourse after that my car needed service again.
That's the time shift mechanic. You're playing against ghostst of real people. And like said before here,it's horrible. People who shell out upgrade their car faster than you can blink and you're left behind...
If they had an IAP for disabling the timers for about the price of what I would have paid for the game anyway (7-10 bucks), then yes, I would be fine with that.
Wowzers, freemium and its out tonight. Looks like I have to grab this cause it will probably be a great hdmi tv game. Anyone know if this is an airplay game, or mirrored game on hdmi???
I've reached the point where I can't win any of the new races I've unlocked, even though I spend all my money on upgrading my car. And like you said, each attempt is followed by minutes of waiting, making things like memorising the track, etc. impossible.
Just done 2 races, one was 30 seconds long and the other was about 3 minutes of high speed, half of my new oil has been used up already! Correct, if you play on your main UK account it will say you do not own the game thus no IAP available to you, or something like that.
yup! it's actually great to play on the tv: you can do 4-5 short races and then watch 2-3 movies before you can play again!!
The Only Way to Win is Not to Play Big fan of the franchise and I can say that my son and I have played many, many hours of RR2. There are several issues here but let's cut to the chase. All of your answers are about money. The evolution of the App Store has been interesting to participate in as a consumer and as an owner of a non-gaming app firm. As a consumer, it's usually been great -- amazing apps at really low prices. But as a business owner, it's kind of ... meh. Our firm (we publish political directories, not games) has been featured by Apple seven times (currently in the Reference section), so by all accounts (and beyond my expectations) we've been successful. The main issue is one of expectations, and I'm not sure how we can, as users and app devs, can fix it. It just seems to me that EA is attempting to find ways for us to turn back the clock on gaming where we'd spend quarters for a few minutes to play. With the race to the bottom with high quality 99¢ games like Angry Birds, it's hard to compete unless you go to high prices, which limits reaching users to be profitable. You go with IAP like the way EA did it and there's blowback, most of it well-placed. Frankly, none of us are willing to purchase a $49 app even if it is freaking awesome. The market has set the expectations in our minds and it's really, really low. Our issue is that people are paying for paper directories at $15 or a few hundred and are whining about a 99¢ update. So to a certain extent, I feel EA's pain but as a user, I can't help thinking this is going to kill the fun of playing RR3. I think the solution here is this: create two markets. EA should continue to offer their crazy IAP but also allow us to purchase, at a premium, an unlock that would allow us to pay all the time. I think for special titles like this one, there would be a market for that. For most games? Probably not. Again, we're wrestling with these issues at my firm. We have updates that should be paid updates (old school) but there's no mechanism for that. Release a new app under a different name and you lose your rankings and confuse people on what they should buy. The other issue, slightly off-topic and I'll save for another time, is that devs cannot respond to user reviews in the App Store. Despite laying out what the pay model is, people will still complain that they were "duped" or "surprised" that they'd have to pay for more content. Again, this is a minority of folks, but a very loud one. I lay all of this out not as an excuse for EA or their Firemonkeys. But it's clear they don't have the answer and most of us simply don't either whether we are playing with apps or developing them. Sadly, I'll probably end up downloading the app, hitting the limits, and deleting it at some point. Sad they did not choose to include a way for Raving Fans like myself to pony up and pay what the game is worth. In the short term, want things to change? Want to kill IAP? Like the ending of War Games, the only way to win is not to play. The problem, however, is this: what happens if RR3 tanks? Does EA say (rationally), "we ought to change the model" or (irrationally and self-servingly) "nice try, let's kill it." On good days, we're rational. But I cannot speak for EA.
I have to agree, the timers seem to be overly harsh (long). 6 hours for service and repair, or 9 gold to have done instantly, that's a bit tough. I would like to see the timers go completely, and service and repairs cost in game currency.
it's actually much worser than that! in the 10 hours ive been "playing" this game i did maybe 15-20 short races so thats roughly 1 hour gameplay and 9 hours waiting time!
That tends to happen with most freemium games... I'd love to see some impressions from people who already own more than one car. How long did it take you to get your second car, and do you feel that wait times are more tolerable with more car choices available?
Was in a race where me and 2nd place CPU were over 100mhp each, the CPU then decides to turn into me causing huge damage, 5 minutes of waiting because of dumb AI I paid 1 gold to renew my oil because it was red after 3 events... 3.
I'm not sure if this has been stated since I've only gone through a few of the 57 pages.... but are we even sure these are the final wait times/prices of IAP? EA has clearly stated that the game is being released on the 28th. There's a good chance they'll listen to this feedback or view user metrics to see what people are purchasing and base the final release on that.
