It's jittery on my iPad 4 as well. Or rather there are times when there is a noticeable drop in frame rate.

It's also really obvious how low res the mirrors are (/jaggy).

Pocket Gamer posted something about the Uk android users being charged 25pound more on Google play than the app store.
I know, I know. I thought it was crazy too. Who woulda thought they would still call it a pound right?!!!

Am I the only one who can't play events where I have too many GC friends?

The only stuttering I have seen on the iPad 4 is in the main menu and "cutscenes". Racing, none.
    Same.

    Grinding.

Grinding is for games like WOW. You expect it in WOW. Grinding because you *have* to unless you want to throw money into an endless pit of hopelessness with nothing to show for it except a feeling of having been mugged?

    That's killing good games :(

Can't believe so many of you will just swallow that.

Beating your friends seems like a slightly better way of swallowing it to me. In fact it seems like TSM is the future of swallowing it. To be honest they really are just active leaderboards. For better or worse this is a very clever design

I'll be honest, you've made trying to avoid the blatant attempts to force a constant stream of cash out of me sound vaguely appealing.

The thing is, in games I've paid for I can do all that without ever having to avoid a system that's been designed entirely to piss me off. So yeah, I probably could play for longer than the hour I spent on it (why did you make up a fact like that?) and find ways to avoid it, but frankly the fact that I even have to try and game the system in this way depresses me.

(Do not get me wrong: the game, when I was allowed to play it, was excellent. I'd have paid ten quid for it. But I'd have had the whole game to enjoy at my leisure, whereas a tenner buys a single car and a few coins. I just hate knowing I'm putting up with gameplay that's been designed with forcing me into a frustrating experience in mind. It's so sad that things are this way now, and all because iOS gamers object to paying even a couple of quid for a game. Sickens me.)

Yeah I'm with that guy. The one that isn't paying real money to fill a fake car with fake gas.

    :(

Is there any way to see what time friends have got on certain events? The little avatars under the event show friends who are faster than me in that event right?

This is cool. It happened to heaps of us when this first dropped weeks ago. This game might not be for some. It can just seem like a hand out to EA execs. Personally im still on the fence. Biggest thing is to realize that it can be done so if its not for you than bow out and admit that others might. At least you tried mate. Gaming is strange these days ay:)

I haven't seen anything other than the times "they" get after each race.

What is a good second car to buy? I already have the Nissan Shilvia and about $36,000.

Either the Focus RS or the BMW 1 Series M Coupe. Both will do well in the Pure Stock Challenge stages. The Focus will carry on through the Road Car International and the BMW will go into the 6 cyl Annihilation Series.

The racing genre is one of the oldest genres of games; at its base level, it is trying to repeat the same lines on the same tracks as accurately as possible. This repetition is a form of grinding in itself, repeating the same gameplay over and over.

Racing games haven't moved on much from this formula in 30 years - even GT5, one of the biggest car-related releases of the current gen (although admittedly not the greatest entry in the series) still involves grinding events for cars and grinding through B-Spec mode for money with lots of repetition.

My point is - driving game enthusiasts are used to it, and it's nothing new to the genre.

I'm not trying to defend the pricing model, as I personally would prefer to pay a fair price for a game and have the whole thing open, but it's clear that this is not the direction that large gaming companies are taking future projects. From a business perspective it makes sense, and at the end of the day that's what the games industry is - as I'm sure you know. In my opinion, with this particular game, it's possible to work around it without too much obstruction to gameplay. YMMV.

OMG I am so hooked on this game. I keep expecting to hit a paywall but I'm just not seeing it. The moment you acquire a second car you don't have to worry about timers because you just hop into another car. I have two cars and almost 100k in cash to buy a third. And I haven't spent a single one of those "speed up" coins so I have, like, 50 of those.

Anyone else feel like EA really messed up and won't be getting nearly as much $ as they thought they would by going the IAP route? On the other hand, I have to imagine they got a bazillion more people to download the game...

It's weird to say, but if it keeps up and I get a ton of gameplay out of this free game I might buy an IAP just to thank them for the (free) game just like I've done with game like Jetpack Joyride, Temple Run, Tribez, etc.
